I now think though, Windows with version 7, after what?.... 17 or so years in development, has finally reached a point where Linux no longer seems as attractive an alternative.
Windows 7 = Vista with better social media marketing.

Ooh, so edgy. Butthurt Fagnux fan detected. Can't stand the fact that his OS is good for fuck all apart from Open Office. Fagnux fans sweating and swearing as they try to play games, desperately crowing to their peers when then get minesweeper to work!..:chortle:

Dubious list padded with mods and ancient games.

Haha a pathetic attempt to make it look like there's more games than there is by including every mod as a 'game'. Why the Morrowind stuff alone takes up about half of the list! A moron is you with this lame attempt. Why should I have buyer's remorse when I don't pay for my Microsoft products? Oh and I've just finished Discworld Noir on my Win98, awesome, awesome game....but I guess you'll never know.
:smug:

I see you only have ancient stuff that Windows and DOS has run for like forever... How's ArmA II on Fagnux? Ahh, right you'll come back with gems like 'modern gamez suxors so I only don't need to play them and so my Whine(very apt name for a Fagnux) is good enough!'

27+ years in I.T. I'm betting I built my first computer before you were born. Was using UNIX before Linux was even a twinkle in Torvalas' eye.

I used to love Linux and still do to some extent. But I can see no compelling reason to use it anymore. It just doesn't offer any advantages over Window 7. If you can give me some, I'd seriously like to hear them.

My Windows game folders are probably 50 times that size. Currently standing at about 6TB. All playable on W7.

My point is, why? Why the hell bother with all the hastle of Wine/Linux, when it's just not necessary anymore?

Truthfully? I got tired of subsiding one of the most corrupt corporations in computing. Not THE most corrupt (that probably goes to Sony or Oracle) but corrupt enough, and dominant enough that their shit spreads and is the "standard".
Their poisonous effect in patents and their particularly strong computing science bent is enough to oppose them in principle.

I've always though that corporations have grown to a scale that harmful to society instead of helpful. Just doing my bit.

Besides, there is no reason to support them. I prefer apt-get 10000 times over the "program manager" or whatever that thing was called. And NSA backdoors ... and antivirus and shit, fuck that

I wonder if you are agent provocateur commie. After all, you can't be a commie and deny the most accomplished achievement of a anarchistic subversion of copyright that there is: the GPL and associated ecosystem.

Thou be trolling slav.

Windows 7 is actually pretty good. Been using it for about a year now and I haven't had any problems.

Corporations were never designed to be helpful. They're legally obligated by their charter to only care about their share holders profit margins and nothing else.

As a non-shareholder, there is therefore no reason to increase their profit margin unless you absolutely have to.

But as we all know corporate rational self-interest results in the most good for all. Also, pigs fly :smug:

Don't worry, that is just the PC wine folder. I also have a dosbox one (organized by genre, becuase that shit is too much) and these: megadrive, psx, snes, N64, NDS, GBA, Amiga, Arcade.

But i'm not like those freaks that have the SNES fullset and the Amiga one and are working on the PC and Arcade one (oh i so wish i had the bandwith for the arcade one).

Ok, that's a reason. Not reason enough for me but if you feel that strongly about it then fair enough. Though as I said, I've never paid for a copy of Windows in my life - so they're not getting much support from me either.

As a gamer, there's a few things I simply cannot do in Linux as well (that I know of).

For example, I run a tripple screen setup for gaming via nVidia surround (and before that ATI Eyefinity). 3x 23" displays giving 6000x1080 (bezel adjusted) resolution, via 2x 460's in SLI.

My center screen is also 3D (120hz), so I can play around with that if I like (though gaming in 3D just gives me a headache - 3D movies are great but).

I don't think I could do either in Linux (correct me if I'm wrong), but if I could, I'm damn sure it would be a PITA to configure.
