I think it comes down to 'do you like nu-asscreed game's ?

I for my sin's do :(..they don't crash on me, they look good, I like riding around on my horse/deer/camel etc...and I bizarrely enjoy the repetitive gameplay, which to be fair all games have in one way or another, it's just a matter of do you like this particular type.

I finally played Origins a couple months ago and it's definitely a relaxing kind of fun for a while. All these open world checklist games that look very pretty are. It just ends up getting really monotonous for me, as the lack of depth becomes more and more annoying as they go on for endless hours. So while I'll probably play this someday, there's a lot of other games of this type to play first, and I'm not in a rush to do it, so tl:dr wake me when there's a $10 sale.

For what it's worth, I disliked Origins as it was their first attempt at the "new formula" and really enjoyed Odyssey.
Odyssey is essentially a sidegrade from The Witcher 3' with an optional exploration mode which takes away quest markers and Valhalla expands on this even more. I haven't felt as intimately familiar with a game's open world without having to use the map screen every five minutes since Kingdom Come Deliverance. Extremely refreshing for a AAA game.

Odyssey is essentially a sidegrade from The Witcher 3

That's a very good description and definitely apt. Ubi put a lot of effort into the nu-AC game franchise and it shows.

From voice acting, to environment, side quests to exploring, it's p. fantastic!

The main plot itself is fine, perfectly serviceable and there are many excellent characters and places you can meet and see.

Now, the main issue with the game, is this: imagine you're playing Witcher 3, and then in the middle of the game, you are taken out of the game and find yourself in the present and you read some emails and do some jumping around for a little while talking to people you don't know about some super important conspiracy plot that is totally happening now and then ... back to the Witcher 3. Repeat this about 4-5 times during the game.

Such a thing would do the Witcher 3 no good and it doesn't do Odyssey any good either. The whole Assassin's Creed plot needs to die, to make a better game.

I honestly forgot that Ubisoft games run through uPlay until I had to redeem a CD key via the client. The only launchers I need to acknowledge on my system are Playnite and/or Galaxy 2.0.

Other than that you just gotta remember the hotkeys for the overlays.

I consider Steam a necessary evil. No reason to pile even more shit on top.

There's no difference between one launcher and another.

Steam is as much shit as all the rest of them, and they're all "necessary evils" if you want to play the games they distribute with those launchers.

You'll need Ubi's launcher even if you buy their game on Steam. So please, spare us the rube declarations.

It's disgusting seeing people shill for any of these shitlords.

GOG and Itch.io are the only "platforms" worthy of praise, anything else varies from tolerable to intolerable shit. uPlay is tolerable. If you use Galaxy or Playnite.link it's pretty much invisible.

It's very simple: paying Ubisoft for a game they made is immoral because they use DRM, but paying Valve for a game they didn't make is moral because they use DRM

I could play Ubishit just fine without their bloatware. (Don't give Ubisoft money.)

Pirating everything that isn't on Steam doesn't send a "no client or DRM" message. It sends a "I am a Steam cuck and love their client" message.

It doesn't really send a message at all. The best message to send to these people is not engaging with the drivel they produce at all.

I'm confused, if you don't like Assassins Creed or Ubisoft games in general nor their launcher, why are you posting comments in the Valhalla thread ?

If you were critiquing the game seen so far that might be interesting perhaps.

If I don't like a game or company, I just ignore it...like I did with Outer Worlds, once I knew it wasn't for me I never posted on that thread again...true many of my posts were about breasts, whether Putin was a miget, etc.. but my point stands.

Personally I enjoy Ass/Creed and Far Cry, yes they are ultimate poppamole ! but for me fun, although that doesn't mean I'm not fully aware of the flaws.

However I've never had any real issues with them or been disappointed because I knew what I was getting, basically because Ubisoft are remarkably clear about that..

Even when they graphically downgraded the Division etc..at least it was before launch so you knew...and they didn't give up on 'For Honor' and other games that didn't launch well, but instead kept at it, with changes and content...the microtransaction bullshit was/is annoying but even that content can often be purchased in game if you play it long enough, so you don't need to spend any money.

There's company's far worse than Ubisoft..

compare this with say Bethesda who have lied about every product they've ever released, with lacklustre support/patching and some of which are borderline unplayable because of how poorly made they are.

Can I have my Ubishill tag now please ?

so what's up with auto-gender change during campaign?

I'd guess "a glitch in the animus" or "animus isn't as accurate as we thought" or who knows what. You can play as only a man or woman, so it can't be that revelatory.

yeah but they're saying "let the animus decide the gender at various points in story depending on strength of genetic code" is canon way of playing... guess they were really disappointed by the percentage of kassandra players in odyssey for some reason and they couldn't outright say kassandra was canon :P otherwise even with that lore reason its just nonsensical... doesn't sound like for the benefit of story

Ubisoft Sandbox Design and, more importantly, their incorrigible wokeness are reason enough to shit on them. That's the great thing about the Codex, I can point out how Ubisoft are continuously dragging the entire medium of games down and not get banned.

You're free to play the games, of course. I see the appeal myself. Just don't give them money. This applies to any major studio.

Ubisoft Sandbox Design

I mean, yeah it sucks, but it doesn't really apply here. Odyssey is a copy of Twitcher 3 open world design, not Far Cry. Valhalla continues down that path.

their incorrigible wokeness are reason enough to shit on them

Definitely, shit on them for that. I'm 100% with you there. Their wokeness is infuriating garbage, like their portrayal of Kleon as Donald Trump. It was painful to watch. What the hell were they smoking?

At the same time, they're pushing eugenics, so that's pretty lulzy. SJWs and wokeness are a mental disease.

Still, this is the only open-world ancient Greek RPG, and as such it is servicable. Decent even.

To get to be an adventurer in semi-mythical ancient Greece, that is awesome! The random wokeness found here and there is annoying and stupid, but it's rare enough for *me* to ignore. Perhaps others would not find it so easy.

These AC games are a perfect example of how the heavy corporated modern gaming companies sell their overblown shit to mindless sheep all over the world. These games are very cosy, convinient. You know what to expect, you are like an obidient office worker, doing the good stuff, sending emails, talking to your corporate boss. Thats what gaming has become in the form of these games.

I don't mind you being disgusted by the woke, it disgusts me to a huge degree.
I would never want anyone banned for disliking a game.
My point was I didn't even think you played/were interested in any aspect of the games so was confused by your posting in the thread.

As to the gender swapping, I have several theories..

1 One of Ubisofts devs/mongs is confused by their own identity, so to keep it happy they decided to let you play as man or wombyn, depending on how it felt that day.

2 Official : Its supposed to represent an animus flaw

3 Tinfoil/most likely ; the majority of players play as male and it infuriates the woketards at Ubi, they concocted this in an attempt to raise the number of people who play female, the thinking is most players might try it once, therefore 50%+ players played as female in ubi stats, brave new world etc...

4 You play as Eivor who is a tranny
