Assassins Creed Valhalla - set in the Viking age - now on Steam

These AC games are a perfect example of how the heavy corporated modern gaming companies sell their overblown shit to mindless sheep all over the world. These games are very cosy, convinient. You know what to expect, you are like an obidient office worker, doing the good stuff, sending emails, talking to your corporate boss. Thats what gaming has become in the form of these games.

What ?
Why am I a mindless sheep if I enjoy them ? They are fun to play in settings I enjoy.
Why would I care if it's a big company making it ?
I'm bored of playing Eurojank rpgs that play and look like shit.
Cosy and convenient ? as opposed to what ? uncomfortable and annoying ?

Its a slick product designed to be sold in large numbers for people to enjoy.
There's nothing wrong with that, if the end result is a game worth playing.

AC 2, AC 4 and Origins are the good games in the series. They are all four years apart, which means there's going to be a good AC game coming out next year.

I liked Black Flag and Vikings were like pirates so I will also enjoy Valhalla(not the literal place since I can't achieve a glorious death).

Is this the vikings game where the game gets mad at you for killing civilians?

guess they were really disappointed by the percentage of kassandra players in odyssey for some reason and they couldn't outright say kassandra was canon :P otherwise even with that lore reason its just nonsensical... doesn't sound like for the benefit of story

I don't care much about AC canon, but isn't the chick already the canon playthrough of Odyssey? I thought I read that.

I mean, yeah it sucks, but it doesn't really apply here. Odyssey is a copy of Twitcher 3 open world design, not Far Cry. Valhalla continues down that path.

their incorrigible wokeness are reason enough to shit on them

Definitely, shit on them for that. I'm 100% with you there. Their wokeness is infuriating garbage, like their portrayal of Kleon as Donald Trump. It was painful to watch. What the hell were they smoking?

At the same time, they're pushing eugenics, so that's pretty lulzy. SJWs and wokeness are a mental disease.

Still, this is the only open-world ancient Greek RPG, and as such it is servicable. Decent even.

To get to be an adventurer in semi-mythical ancient Greece, that is awesome! The random wokeness found here and there is annoying and stupid, but it's rare enough for *me* to ignore. Perhaps others would not find it so easy.

I liked the portrayal of Kleon in Odyssey. A populist prick, just like in history (minus the conspiracy retardation, typical for all AssCreed games). It was very enjoyable to finally put an end to him during the battle of Amphipolis. Take that, you orange ape :smug:

That's right, historically Kleon was a populist and all that, so nothing wrong with presenting him as such.

But he wasn't Donald Trump.

Kleon was nasty in his own right and using the idea of Trump as a stand-in, did the plot no service.

This presented two distinct problems:

One; that the narrative used comments about him, like "orange ape", which made no sense. He wasn't orange at all. Trump is orange. Kleon was not presented in the game as orange. Maybe if they had presented him as orange, it would have worked, but they didn't which made the whole thing fourth wall breaking (it was literally "orange man bad", which is actually a meme)

Two; that the Trump connection was just about the only thing used to present his character as "bad". Kleon's historical and very real assault of Mytilene and subsequent slaughter of civilians was mentioned in passing as a possible plan, but we never see anything related to it and we never know if it was enacted in-game.

So instead of using real events to show him as evil, he's just called an "orange ape" and insinuated that he's "Trump".

Sometimes the narrative became too lazy, too handwaving and too insubstantial in Odyssey, and the Kleon plot was definitely one of those parts which suffered the most. It felt really rushed and well, it was at the very end of the game. I guess they didn't spend much money or effort on a part that very few would ever see. This is also evident with the Ghost of Kosmos. Wow that was anti-climactic.

The less said about the ending of the game, the better. It wasn't bad as such, just incredibly underwhelming for such an epic game of otherwise very high quality.

Well, ubisoft audience has always been the barrel scrapes of the human civilization. They don't have good games.

They do have good games, off the top of my head:

Good Ubisoft games that I have played:

The original Prince of Persia Sands of Time was p. good, so were Silent hunter II, III and IV, Stick of Truth, Beyond Good and Evil, Splinter Cell, HoMM V, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, XIII, Rainbow Six and Odyssey.

Their games are very casual and normie oriented, but some are quite good. You just have to know what to look for and you can find diamonds hidden among the garbage.

Guess it depends on how you define quality...

It was well crafted, not buggy, smooth gameplay, easy to understand, many character builds to explore, fun sidequests, awesome worldbuilding of ancient Greece, and so on and so forth.

It's objectively a work of high quality craftsmanship. The main plot is meh and the AC part of the plot is positively retarded. That's the worst I can say about the game.

I typically enjoy shit games

Can confirm. You're the buttmonkey who swears by absolute objective *and* subjective garbage like: Fallout 76, Dragon Age Inquisition and Kingdoms of Amalur: the Reckoning.

and I have absolutely zero interest in this

That's a glowing recommendation, then.

This is why people are interested in Watch Dogs Legion, it's the director's first game since FC2

Good thing vikings didn't have those naked statues like the ones ancient greeks did. That means gaming media won't be writing articles about penises of those statues.
