First was generic/boring ass-fuck. This looks to be no different. Almost an expansion.

You're easily one of the worst new posters of 2013.
You must really think i give a shit.
Anyway, wasnt meant for you, it was for anyone that isnt dead inside and still thinks that something can be good regardless of genre or classification.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Codex USB, 2014 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I'm playing the demo and it's fairly entertaining so far, I like it more than I recall liking Avadon 1. However, I chose to test-drive it as a shaman and... how do I use the spirit claw special ability? there's no ability button for it...

edit: ah, it refers to the regular attack, nvm

edit2: combat is harder, Senicha is kicking my arse

final edit: supreme tragedy, I died

Twenty years before the main story takes place, the Fourteen Lances were chosen to venture on a dangerous quest by the Emperor of the Szaalenden Empire. Each armed with a lance blessed by the Emperor, they sought to defeat a powerful enemy and threat to the empire, known as Wischtech. Of those fourteen, it is believed that three perished on the journey and four turned traitor. The seven remaining claimed to have completed the mission, killing the four traitors, who became known as the "Four Lances of Betrayal". The seven who returned were hailed as "The Seven Heroes".

In actual fact, the "Four Lances of Betrayal" were the true heroes, who risked death to carry out the mission bestowed on them, despite the treachery of their companions, the so-called "Seven Heroes" who decided to flee the mission, fearing death. When the four returned victorious after defeating the enemy, they were ambushed by their comrades and brutally massacred. Afterwards, the seven took credit for the success of quest and were rewarded greatly, each given land to govern.

Ascherit, one of the "Lances of Betrayal", survived the bloodbath and, with a new form, is currently hunting down the "Saviors" who murdered his friends and destroyed his life.
This is the setup, the world is really, really, really cool. the manga is a bit pretentious but its still a good read.

Might give it a whirl, for 7 bucks you get a pretty long RPG if it's of a similar length to Avadon 1. Wonder how many $20 copies he budgeted for?

Jeff Vogel is quite possibly the best RPG maker out there right now. If this demo is at least on par with Avadon 1, I'll buy it, although obviously Geneforge and Nethergate are the height of brilliance and I'd rather have a nethergate remake or something.

Nope, its pretty coherent with itself, no miracles happening. About other tropes from weaboo land, mostly the same ones berserk is guilty of.
You do get to witness stuff like this tho.

After playing some more, I think it's fair to say this game is better than Avadon. However, I was somewhat disappointed to learn that once again, you do indeed become a Hand of Avadon, and the same general structure of "go to province X, Y, Z" holds true, which is rather boring if I have to be honest. I would have liked things more if you weren't a Hand at all, but rather working for or against Avadon in a "freelance" capacity, or because you have goals that might intertwine or conflict with theirs. Would have been a lot more interesting.

However, overall gameplay is definitely better. There is still filler combat, yes, and the levels are still a bit oversized, but I think there are more side-quests out there to complete compared to Avadon, and you get access to more areas to explore earlier on. At good times, it reminds me a bit of Baldur's Gate, peeling back the fog of war on large outdoor areas and finding what you can find, moving from one map location to the next. And thankfully, the embarrassingly bad writing is for the most part nowhere to be found now, though I'm afraid it might return later for an "emotionally engaging" scene or two.

One thing that's weird is that the game has a three-character limit for your party, including your PC, yet now the roster of companions is much bigger (six). So, you'll only be able to use a third of those on any regular basis, and to avoid overlap with your PC, you'll likely never use a couple of them for simple composition reasons too. At least in the first Avadon there were only four, and you could rotate them out more easily. I really would have preferred a larger party size rather than the BioWare-style "so many characters... pick two and leave the rest in the Normandy to rot" approach.

Shit, you guys make it sound like Vogel has become the poor man's Gaider...:(
I was never the biggest fan of his games, but his first games were good enough. I haven't played his last ones, and judging by the comments i don't miss much

The latest ones aren't all bad. Just the Avadons. The latest Exile 1 remake was decent enough, and Geneforge 5 was possibly the best of that series.

Well, technically I do too, but Avadon is so generic and uninteresting I find it impossible to play.

I have enough shekels left over from a Vampire bloodlines purchase for either Avadon 2 or Underrail. Thoughts ?
