They think they know their audience. DA4's marketing is composed with trivia about voice actors first and foremost.

They don't really have to think, they just have to look at the financial success of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

So like what specifically does this game do that is different from other cRPG's? What makes it an amazing and spectacular achievement in cRPG design?
I've asked myself this, and came to the conclusion, after extensive research, that this game could have come out 10-15 years ago, because it's the same old crap

I assume the original sales pitch is that it's a first-person open world-ish western fantasy cRPG in a time where it's been like 13 years since Skyrim has released and there's been no real challenger in that entire time.

But the Avowed team has managed expectations so well that nobody's excited for it anymore. I'd imagine there are less diehard Pillars fans than there are Dragon Age fans.

Which speaking of, both games are direct competitors so the delay makes sense. You'd think after all this time, studios would have some red phone with their counterparts to work out launch dates so this sort of thing wouldn't happen.

Like I asked, what's the point in playing another ass creed game, if you've played the previous.

What's the point of downloading new shader packs for Morrowind if you played it originally?

Better shaders will make it much easier find Caius Cosades . Sun will reflect of off his bald head, creating a beam of light visible from large distances.

Ass Creed sells though. That's a pitch in itself. Like: "Hey, Star Wars!" You could print its logo on toilet paper, people would stand in line to wipe their butts.

If companies can learn something from Larian, it's that they're good salesmen. And I don't mean that in an ironic way. The entire tagline of their campaign was, without spelling it out: "Do whatever silly you like. And share it for all world to see." Be that casting fireballs into goblins with your friends. Stacking crates to get into places we never imagined you to. Or... getting humped by a bear. (Anybody simply copying that bear stunt would completely miss the context of it all).

Honestly, I've no idea whatsoever what Avowed is myself -- except that it's another action RPG power fantasy set in the same universe as that piratey CRPG nobody has ever played. Except me.

Even though I expect Veilguard to flop and lead to the closure of BioWare, I still expect it to sell several times more than what Avowed will sell. I think it is laughable to suggest Obsidian is a competitor to BioWare at this point, cause Veilguard at least clearly is trying to appeal to a much larger audience than Avowed. Obsidian seems to be trying to appeal to an audience that wants a medieval The Outer Worlds, which is a niche audience not targeted by BioWare.

Correct, Obsidian aren't trying to make a character focused RPG with cinematic dialogues. The main drawing point of Avowed is the first person action gameplay and for those who actually played and enjoyed Pillars - the setting.

If you would've said 10 years ago that BioWare would be reduced to making dating sims and Obsidian's biggest hit is a "Honey I shrunk the kids" knockoff....

Well I would've believed you about BioWare.

Neverwinter, Always Sunny
build variety galores like Dragon Age Origins
Are you serious?
1. Dual Wield Build (Rogue + Fighter + Arcane Knight)
2. 2H Greatsword Build (Fighter + Arcane Knight)
3. Sword and Shield Build (Fighter + Arcane Knight)
4. Mage (with variations of spells combo, not build).
5. Archer (Rogue + Fighter)

There are 2 build in Dragon Age Origins:
1. Optimal/Viable
2. Shooting yourself in the foot build

"Mechanically tight gameplay" = 2 social (coercion) skills (Persuade and intimidate).

It's dumbed down offspring of Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate 2.
