Is there some sort of silent majority of people who were dissatisfied with it? Maybe. But how would they know? It's a success on paper so it makes sense to treat it like one.
Most of those are paid reviews, let's be honest. And most people who say they are "fans" of the game bought it on release and only like it because they spent their money. Even on reddit, most of the opinions on it are negative (at least on subs that approach games without any hype):

The average """gamer""" plays these games for maybe 10 hours and then drops them without ever finishing. They're easily satisfied and don't even begin to actually consider the writing or mechanics critically.
(Unlike the average Dexer who will play the game for 100 hours, fully understand how shit everything is and then still defend the game because "At least it's not XYZ".)

Indeed, any reference to Outer Worlds by Obsidian is a massive red flag. It's their worst rpg by a wide margin.

Obsidian being the grifters that they are, they sold Microsoft on next gen Skyrim, got bought out on that promise, will fail to deliver it in a spectacular way, because as soon as they started development they realized that they are not Bethesda.
Microsoft is really building up their reputation as the bane of gaming again.
This isn't Microsoft's fault though and honestly I'm pretty happy that they are forcing all games under their banner to be on PC

Same way they found out with PoE.. wait for Outer Worlds 2 sales numbers.

People went into PoE1 expecting BG2
They went into Outer Worlds expecting Fallout New Vegas.

Obsidian worked hard to establish themselves as the "Studio that makes good RPG's" they need a little more time to disappoint everyone.

If you've played it for 100 hours and still say it's shit, maybe you just like shit. Or maybe it's not all that shit?

didn't anyone at Obsidian say "avowed" out loud? sounds like shit
Not related to the sound it makes, but one-word names that are just far too common has been a thing for Obsidian or Obsidian-adjacent (which makes me think it might be a problem with Feargus Urquhart specifically) projects for a while now : Tyranny, Fig, Grounded, Awoved, etc. It makes searching for mentions of them a real chore. The Outer Worlds is kinda like that too but since it's 2 words, it's not as bad.

But it's still easier to search for it. Deadfire I believe is one of the lone exception, although now that Po2 is 5 years old, it is completely drowned by what I believe is a Fortnite skin ?

Awavered and clockwork imitation. That's what Obsidian and inXile are doing now, just releasing games into a hole left empty by Bethesda and 2K, as basically knockoffs.
They were doing that for a long time, the only difference is that previously they were handed both the IP and the assets of the original works.

Briar Diem not really a fan of developers jumping in and out of Codex whenever they feel like it (and harvesting brofists due to local simps), but I'm willing to give you some slack since you come here as an employee of a big company owned by one of the largest corporations filled with Socialist Jewish Wokists and other assorted scum.

Now, you did mention that the visuals are in the alpha stage and that improvements are bound to happen (although I personally wouldn't bet on it), but here are the main issues (some of which were already brought up by other members):

- textures - low resolution and muddy, some of them completely missing the details and looking embarrassingly flat. The former seems to fit more in an isometric game where camera distance hides a lot of the issues, while the latter is straight out of early 2000s
- lighting - it isn't as bad as the inXile Bioshock ripoff and looks to be the same one used in Deadfire, but technology has moved along and implementation of something more sophisticated is obviously going to help a lot
- animations - this is probably my biggest gripe with it, regardless if we are talking about the PC or the NPC and other critters you fight against. It looks straight out of now (!?) dated TES games and even worse than Outer Words. There really is no reason for everything being so clunky, except the easily recognized fact that Obsidian has shitty animators and is not willing to invest in better ones. Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Island, Dying Light and even classics like Dark Messiah look miles better and more fluid. Genuinely SAD!, especially with all those M$ resources at your disposal.

I'm not expecting the game to match the CGI teaser trailer or set any new standards, but this is disappointing to say the least (even for someone who has mostly given up on Obsidian in general).

someone post a map of eora then we'll know how many games are left to make
i think there isn't one. we only know where the main landmasses are, and that there's undiscovered land further east. kinda like this
