That is such a stupid question. You are beyond retarded. Do I have access to super advanced AI that could predict alternate worlds exactly?!
Rolling simulators were a huge decline for world of cRPGs. Now all games that could become good and fun party based RPGs were turned into rolling simulators.Dark Souls is like the only incline gaming has had since like the fucking 2000, you retconning mongoloids.
Also, Asmongold is in no way, shape or form into Souls he was just bullied into it by his fans. His first foray into the genre was an unmitigated disaster he only learned to cope to save face.
Complete detachment from reality. Name one good RPG we could have had if it wasn't Dark Souls. Oh right that would be nothing because RPGs have been decline for decades and the party based ones specifically have been infected by faggotry and shit writing longer than some people here have even been alive. In fact, you are looking at just such a game in this thread.
Obsidian Explains Why Avowed Won't Let You Romance Your Companions
The developers wanted to focus on "thoughtful relationships" with companions.

With games like Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 last year having players wax poetic about which of their video game besties they most want to smooch, it can sometimes feel like romance systems are becoming a staple of AAA party-based RPGs. But that's not going to be the case with Avowed, which is opting to forego a dedicated romance system for a focus on "building thoughtful relationships" with companions instead.
This comes from an interview IGN did with Avowed game director Carrie Patel, where she confirmed Avowed would not feature romance options, and why:
"We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," she said. "Ultimately, I personally am a fan of making that an option, but I feel like if you're going to do it, you really, really have to commit and make sure that you're giving all to fulfilling that in a way that feels both true to the character, but also creates an engaging player experience. So not something we're doing for Avowed, but I wouldn't say never."

Although there isn't traditional romance in Avowed, there is at least one character you can bond with during your journey

Avowed romance has long been a point of interest, as players tend to expect they can form relationships with their companions during RPG adventures. It seemed that Obsidian had curbed any notion of this when they previously stated you wouldn't be able to romance your companions, as they wanted to focus on getting the game's relationships right instead – and while they stayed true to their word that you won't be getting up close and personal with your party members while you journey across the Living Lands, we've found during our time with Avowed that there is one romance you can initiate which plays out during the epilogue. If you want to find out more about this option, then this is how to set up a romance in Avowed.
Does Avowed have romance with companions?

Avowed romance doesn't feature in the traditional sense, as although you can use dialogue interactions to flirt with various Avowed companions in your party, nothing more comes of it during the course of your adventure. However, it is possible to set up a romance with Kai at the end of your journey, and this is how you do it:
- Always speak to Kai when in an Avowed Party Camp and be nice to him
- Complete Kai's personal quest
- When you get the option, confess to Kai that you have feelings for him

Note that your character's body type and identifier, which you chose during character creation along with your Avowed background and attributes, do not affect this Avowed romance opportunity with Kai. If you've followed all of the steps above, then Kai should tell you that he feels the same, and that if you still feel that way once you've finished your journey together then you'll both see what happens.

You can then proceed to complete the story and, during the epilogue, an additional screen will appear confirming the romance that blossoms between Kai and the envoy. If you were looking for more then I'm afraid that's the extent of the romance in Avowed, but at least you got a happy ending together!
No, it is its main defensive mechanic. Just like how games like Skyrim are walking simulators because you spend 80% of the time walking around the map.Oh no, there's ROLLING in Dark Souls. It's a ROLLING simulator, coz it has ROLLING as one of its many mechanics!

I just know that as soon as casuals played such rolling simulators companies no longer wanted to make cRPG that would sell less. Same like how MOBA ruined RTS.
Sure, cinematic RPGs were also another cause. But then Dark Soul type games took over. Even Mass Effect was/is better than all these soul likes (at least ME1 that was more tactical than 2 and 3 that were just shooters with abilities)That is such a stupid question. You literally claimed if it wasn't for Souls we would be having all those great RPGs how that not predicting the future, retard?
When Dark Souls was released Mass Effect was already four years old and the RPG genre was already in a deep state of decline and there's every indication the genre wasn't gonna get any better... because it hasn't, and not due to anything to do with Souls. Just look at Veilguard or Avoided here.
the "rolling" criticism is so foreign to me and to my experience, I've always played so heavy that it's been almost purely a blocking/parrying/distance management game for me, and they play wellNo, it is its main defensive mechanic. He's spot on in the fact that Avowed is a better experience IF you played, and enjoyed, the PoE games previously.
Could be. I never played Souls likes (except when I tried one of the latest Jedi games and quit after I've seen that it is nothing like Jedi Academy) but whenever I watched anyone else play they just spend 50% of the time rolling around during combat. And I am still very pissed off how they ruined Witcher 2 combat by adding that Souls shit in it to the point I could not force myself to finish it (got bored half way through).the "rolling" criticism is so foreign to me and to my experience, I've always played so heavy that it's been almost purely a blocking/parrying/distance management game for me, and they play wellNo, it is its main defensive mechanic. Well I played Jedi game with that young actor (first one) and Witcher 2, both had rolling shit and terrible camera which is staple of Souls likes. And I've watched enough of people playing different Souls likes over the years.Even Mass Effect was/is better than all these soul likes
I never played Souls likes
another archangel classic
Have been relying on my shield a lot on Elden Ring, rolling wasn't a primary defensive mechanic at all with my build. Same with using a pistol-focused build in Bloodborne (and you don't even roll when locked on to an enemy, but dash instead). No, it is its main defensive mechanic. Just like how games like Skyrim are walking simulators because you spend 80% of the time walking around the map.Oh no, there's ROLLING in Dark Souls. Probably already been shared multiple times in some form or another but it's a first for me.

Beyond pathetic.
When people presented with worse shit they remember the shit as not so shit.
We are high brow philosopher, ex-game developers, and gaming elite. Of course we know everything about crazies on Twitch when they are gaming related, and when they occasionally make important points and valid criticism about random RPG/Strategy games. Why do you people even know anything about a fucking Twitch streamer.
Such a cool detail.
This is a really bizarre inclusion when you consider the static physics-less props everywhere.

Easy to explain: the guy responsible for implementing the climbing/parkour system which contains this little detail was not the same guy responsible for implementing clutter objects and their (lack of) physics.
Am I arguing with those people? No. I'm arguing with the Bethtards screeching about minutiae.Judging it on its own (poor) merits is exactly what most people are doing.
It seems to me that *your* reading comprehension activates on and off at your personal convenience. As usual.
I wouldn't know. What do you think Carrie is thinking at this very moment Roguey?
Life experience isn't necessarily important. Chris Avellone was a fat nerd from Virginia whose life experience was reading a lot of fantasy and sci-if literature. It's just fortunate he was a naturally critical person. And these same cringe millennials and zoomers have NO life experience at all. They live inside their echo chambers and the tiny screen of their phone, so them trying to write something with nuance and complexity would require THEM to have nuance and complexity. The reason the writing is childlike and naive is because THEY are child like and naive. Garbage In---> Garbage Out. Simple as...
No one expected this in any of the Dragon Age games, the Witcher games, the Neverwinter Nights games, Divinity 2, Dungeon Siege III, Risen 2 and 3, Owlcat's Pathfinder games, Spiders' games (Bound by Flame, Greedfall), Solasta, etc.Well, not being able to mow down NPCs is probably the least important negative trait of the game, but I think it all boil down to expectation vs past games. Nobody cares about killing off everyone in a sci-fi setting (don't even remember if it was possible in KOTOR/KOTOR2?), but for fantasy there's plenty of past games that allows you to do that, so people expect that feature.
Oh, puh-lease, that's Obsidian propaganda. Obsidian picks their games based on what Feargus and Parker want to do, Tim Cain revealed as much when he talked about how they had a call for everyone to make pitches and they rejected all of them because they had a particular project in mind that they wanted to do (Fallout meets Firefly) but wanted someone else in the company to come to the same conclusion on their own rather than just say "We want to do a Fallout meets Firefly game, give us a pitches oriented around that."-Obsidian picks their next game based on what the teams are interested in, and lunch discussions, not franchise or market potential.
