Yes, the promises that you have made. I didn't ever use Kickstarter although I know what it is, naturally, the word pledge means the backing of the project.

Is there really no better use for a whopping 10k?

As in making a better game or contributing to finding a cure for cancer?

There are probably always better things than producing a snarky anime porn game purely to throw shit at BG3.

I also can't tell if your use of "whopping" is sarcasm or not, but 10k is not really a large budget for a full game, even a small one. It definitely didn't pay for the entirety of this game.
I'm afraid you got baited into talking with a certified retard. Do not expect any consistency or semblance of intellect from him.

I'd just ignore his dumb ass.

0.3.1 patch notes

Hello everyone! The next big update is here, bringing the elves and a third area to the wilds, along with their Forest Guardian boss. I’ve also added a sex scene for Morgana and Ferrand.

By now, I’d estimate the game to be around 75% complete. What’s left to do is a smaller final area with some unique enemies and the last boss, ending the game, new game+ and additional story elements. There are also other minor mechanics that need to be added, like food/eating (although that’s mostly story related).

And of course, still plenty of bugs left to squash. I will probably be releasing a small bug fix patch soon as I’m aware there are plenty of them still around (and I’m sure this new update will introduce new ones).

But, Baldr’s Squid Isekai is in its final stretch. I anticipate the 1.0 full release will be sometime around mid or late August.

As I said before, the game is mostly made by me as a big joke, and also to experiment with a hundred different things, and it’s proven to be a great learning experience. I hope you’ll enjoy the final product, and that my future games will be better because of what I’ve learned here :D.
Okay, perhaps I do not understand the intricacies of numbering versions, but why does a game that is 75% complete has version 0.3.1? If you only plan on adding one more region and new game +, when will the game reach 1.0?

Version numbers aren't a percentage of done. 0.3.1 doesn't mean it's 31% done. It simply means the third major draft + first minor patch.

And yet many games treat those numbers as kind-of proximity to full release measure.

Subverse is currently at version 0.9 I think and is expected to get a full release this year. The Last Sovereign is version 0.7 something and also is steadily approaching 1.0.

That's why I was surprised by Tyranicon's method of numbering close-to-release version.

Thank you for the link. I understand that you're not serious as the game is not serious and that is why I was serious about the game being rather... :0/5:. Why? The three G's. Graphics, Gameplay, Goal. If you still don't get it, check Enderal: Forgotten Stories on Steam. It's free AND it has a bigger chance of becoming popular. You wouldn't earn money on a free modification for Skyrim, true. However, the product would outshine your "shit thrown at BG3" (Which I know is not a good game.).

Before you throw shit at me, I understand you're a solo dev. My only question is, who will play your game?

Post Scriptum - Yes. A free product seems to be better than your kickstarted project which you have spent a... 10k on?

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Why would I ever throw shit at you? You're one of the most interesting posters on codex.

I've actually read some of your threads previously. They were highly entertaining. No, unfortunately I do not have any feedback besides to keep going in the direction you're going in and you'll meet with success.

Basically what Zombra said. I'm also not a programmer by trade so the way I use versioning is probably off.

What's been your learning here, Tyranicon?

Probably the most important is that I have soft limits with what I can do in RPGMaker. BSI has so much extra stuff added to the engine and alternative ways to do things that someone can go into my editor and have no idea what's going on.

I'm tired of trying to fit a square peg into a circular one, or whatever the phrase is.

serious programmer would introduce -<tag> suffix that will not work in half of the repositories they will onboard for this highly sophisticated codebase

So you know what I said about the game being hard? Yeah the game is being compared to Fear and Hunger. And I recently got this review, translated from Russian.

Perfect. I might add more things for the easy setting though. :smug:

I've been telling you, the best porn games are the ones whose gameplay is so good it makes people want to skip the porn.

New content update

Hello everyone,

Like I said in the last bug patch, I’ve taken a detour from the roadmap to add some much needed story and gameplay elements. This update includes “dungeon traps” and meals with your companions. Additionally, the item shop now sells rations and food on EASY mode.

The traps in this game are going to be very unorthodox, at least compared to other RPGs. They will be randomly triggered as the player progresses through the Wilds, and can be avoided entirely. But there is a significant incentive for the player to interact with them. Beyond that, I’ll leave it up to you to see what they are.

Meals are a significant story element and it will be the primary way for you to learn more about characters in the game. SINGER’s meals are especially… noteworthy.

They currently do not affect gameplay, although in the future they will unlock further sex scenes and perhaps other things. I will have to see.

We’re at about 90% complete! There’s a few more things left, but it’s mostly endgame and New Game+ at this point.

I had planned for a short game with a very rapid development schedule, but even so I have to admit that this little parody game has proven to be a challenge. The lessons I’ve learned here will definitely impact my future games, and have already, in many ways.

I’m looking forward to 1.0 and the post launch, the latter of which will include backer and stretch goal content! Look for a revised roadmap soonish.

Thanks,

ManlyMouseDan

Hello everyone!

I've just uploaded the most recent build of BSI to steam, and I'm glad to announce that the game is now able to be completed! As always, please let me know if you run into bugs or having balancing suggestions.

Originally, the final battles in the game were almost impossibly hard, but I've toned them down a little and allowed the player to save/heal/restock between them, which should help a lot. I'm still working on more mechanics that allow the player to grow the strength of their party, so missing those will make the combat seem harder than it will in the final, finished game. There is a way to talk your way out of fighting, which is tradition in this genre.

Additionally, I have added a short sex scene for Hygie and Rouge each. They are the only characters that will turn the player down if their Trust score is too low. Trust can be increased with the meal conversations.

All in all, the game is nearly at the finish line, but there's still a lot to do. The next main thing I'll be doing is adding in New Game+ and getting ready for the 1.0 launch. However, this game's not getting much interest (due to being a weird parody art project) so I'm a little concerned with how buggy the final game will be because of the lack of testers.

Also, regarding it being an art project, it definitely veered a little more that way than I originally intended. Sometimes games, like all media, have a personality of their own. I am however, very happy with the direction it's taken and I ended up investing more in this short little game than I intended to.

But all my games are weird and confusing, so hopefully people know what to expect.

Thanks,

ManlyMouseDan

Next update will be a 1.0 complete game!

Hi everyone!

Good news, I'm confidant that the next update will bring this game to a finished "1.0" state. All the launch content and mechanics will be in place, save for the usual bugs and placeholders I forget to remove.

I think I will be leaving New Game+ for post launch content, as I would like to see how players interact with the game more before releasing that mode. Speaking of players, it's no surprise to me that this game hasn't seen much of a player count, as I haven't really marketed it seriously. It started and still is something of a very long joke/ art project.

But the low player count means that not too many bugs are being reported (and I'm very grateful to those of you that do report them!). So I might postpone leaving Early Access until the game's less buggy. This is something I did with great success on my last game, so I have no problem doing it again.

But the next update will be the "finished game." Look for it to drop late this month or early September.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

So, Tyranicon now that your Squid game has reached 1.0, when do you think will be the best time to play it? Do you plan to add a lot of additional content? Should I wait to October or perhaps November? Thanks for advice!

There will be a lot of backer content, stretch goals and New Game+ involved as post-launch content. I currently don't have a precise schedule of when all that will be added to the game. The game is fully playable now, just be aware there may be more bugs than usual as the Early Access period hasn't seen that many players.

Only a suggestion. Have the main city of your parody game called : Baizuo's Gate. A city where the more perceived as oppressed, the more privileges you have. Where criminals run free but defending yourself or comitting a crime of opinion is a very serious sentence. Everyone in that city will introduce themselves with very stupid pronouns and if you missgender someone, is death penalty.

No one uses that other than you. It's not an in joke so much as a you joke. Assuming you think it's funny, which is giving you substantial benefit of the doubt.

I think the game is more or less completed at this point so I doubt such changes could be introduced.

Not to mention Tyranicon doesn't strike me as a culture warrior. He rather ignores wokeness and works around it, than directly confronts it.
