I updated my character's backstory, above, and I'm very proud of it.

I consider this to be high-level C&C. Larian decided to go down this path and so sites like RPG Codex are going to examine and critique it.

In fact, I expect any and all reviews of this game, once we finally get around to them, to include in-depth analyses of all romantic possibilities within the game and their effects, if any, on the more traditional aspects of it.

On an unrelated note, I know some people enjoy this shit, but every time I read D&D players (and roleplayers in general, really) writing detailed backstories about how AWESOME their character already was way before hitting level 1 I feel this strong mixture of pity and contempt.
Well, even level 1 player characters are way stronger than average folks. Makes sense that they have some background and expertise.

But Wyll, Shadowheart and Githgirl being level 1 is still nonsense.

At least the other 3 explain it with their power dropping due to some occurrence.

Edit: nvm, Shadowheart has been brainjumbled and lost memory, so she makes sense too.
Eh. D&D levels are abstractions.

Think about it: is a level 1 Wizard really a Wizard on his first day of the job? No, he's a normal person who's studied magic for some length of time to get to this, hence the ability prerequisites. The same with a Warlock, a Cleric, or even a fighter. There's clearly a bit of backstory there in terms of how they got their abilities. It's an abstraction of the base level that someone can be called a Wizard and not just some guy that learned a single cantrip. You can write that it's their first day on the job, if your story really requires it, but it's not the only option.

And 5E isn't 2E. A level 1 character is far more capable in combat. So, I would guess that 5E level 1 is an abstraction for a potentially greater range of skills and abilities than 2E, where even there, you are allowed to start at any age you want.

So, imo, some level of backstory can make sense. Just because Gorion's ward was some punk kid starting off with zero experience of the world beyond stories and pest control doesn't mean everyone has to be. Within reason, of course. And yes, most of the characters in BG3 have extenuating circumstances that explain their low level. They're probably at the extreme end of what's acceptable though.

I mean, it's a porn render and not from the game.
Wait, you're telling me that video clip isn't in the actual game?

Who posted it again? I'm going to ban that person.

Edit: Wait, now I'm confused. Isn't there supposed to be bear sex in this game? That's what we're going to be critiquing. I mean it's an important aspect of computer roleplaying games, right? It's considered inter-party banter, sort of. Is it, like, turn-based bestiality? Are there multiple outcomes to it, no pun intended? We need to examine this very important part of the game, then probably interview Swen about it and ask him VERY specific questions. This is what prestigious magazines like us do, afterall!

Do we examine Witcher 3 porn in detail? Should we? Am I going to regret asking these questions? :(
In Witcher 3 there's almost nothing to discuss. Geralt is free to choose T or Y or neither (same as both) plus a few side hoes.

Here we were promised some very intricate mechanics regarding that stuff although they sound rather like pr talk ala pre-release Andromeda. So far it all seems heavily tied on the attitude scale just like it was in DA:O.

By the way in the last EA build they've changed things compared to the first builds - now it's like everyone in the camp is listening to everyone so when you're agreeing to spend the rest of the evening with someone, all other potential fuckers are *aware* of that so the only thing you're choosing now before sleep is basically whether you've changed your mind or not.
