Decades ago. It's kind of hard to miss when everything with dark skin is metaphysically evil in the books. The orcs are described as mongoloid.
Ents are more black than white, but they are good.
Ents have tree bark as skin ;d

Drow are physically perfect, beautiful, militarized aryans with jet black skin and a penchant for BDSM face-sitting.

Drawing connections between them and earth negros is top tier ‘we wuz kangz’ delusion imported to D&D.

If the BG3 devkit is released I bet on release date + 2 years for BG2 and NWN total conversions to pop up.
The greatest thing larian could ever hope to accomplish is someone using their engine and tools to recreate nwn2 and the expansions. Might actually pirate the game at that point, just to replay nwn2 in a better engine.
Imagine being this retarded that you're giddy of someone somewhere somehow possibly remaking the orc caves again.

Seriously dude, you have problems.
imagine liking NWN2 OC. easily one of the worst RPGs of all time.

remember all those horrible companions you're forced to take with you everywhere?

and that ending?
Mask of the Betrayer was good.

At no point did Tolkien ever describe orcs as a whole having dark skin.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Tolkien very rarely encountered a non-white person at all while he was writing his books and beforehand. Trying to read racism into the books is modernist revisionism based on our perceptions of what modern society is like.

He didn't describe them as a whole, some orcs he definitely described as dark-skinned or black, but that's not the point. The point is that everything dark or black in general is evil. The elves who refused to see the light of Valinor, the Nazgul, the Arab-like people who allied with Sauron, Sauron himself is black (not the skin color), the Balrogs (dark forms), etc. There's also the dichotomy of the good West against the evil East (Mordor).

I very much doubt Tolkien intended for it to be racist, that's ridiculous, but such things can and have been read into it. You can unintentionally spread propaganda against specific people by having your work interpreted in a specific way. I'm sure if LotR was written before WW2, the nazis would've appropriated the elves as being obviously superior to other races because they are fair-skinned and generally blond. The problem is finding a solution, obviously, but I'm not going to get into that whole mess.

Unless you want bland consumerist literature, it's unavoidable. Tolkien's writing is inseparable from his 'eurocentric gaze'. That white is associated with goodness, purity & co. and black with evil is a matter of cultural perspective.

National-Socialism wasn't fond of faggotry usually associated with elves, though. No need to elevate some inferior races when perfectly fine white people still exist.

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

Excellent Initiative System: In its current iteration, BG3 might have one of my favourite initiative systems since it combines the advantages of individual and side-based initiative without the drawbacks inherent to either. With individual initiative systems, setting up combination attacks is difficult, but BG3 sidesteps this issue by having adjacent party members in the initiative list act in any order. On the other hand, with side-based initiative, CRPGs often devolve into the player's party going first and annihilating the most dangerous targets. In BG3, since initiative is still determined individually, setting up team-wide alpha strikes is entirely a matter of chance and not a strategy to rely upon.

Temple of Elemental Evil had a better system. It allows you to move your characters down in initiative queue. If you wanted, you could move your quick characters past enemies and have them act their turn after your slow character.

To be honest reading this thread made me want to replay ToEE, more than want to play BG3.

Right off the top of my head, two of the main antagonists are Saruman the White and Gollum who is "pale skinned"

It's not necessarily 'white' but 'light' along with courage/hope.
e.g.,
The main power the Nazgul had was fear(which was amplified in the dark,) it's why Aragorn said they fear those who wield fire, not that they fear fire. Anyone capable of wielding it against them isn't afraid of them. Tolkien comments more on this in Letter 210 in his published letters.

Combat is too easy.

Just watched this video. Spider was supposed to be hard boss.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeEI04Ghm0s
skip forward, he gets the surprise attack, closed tab

Anyone who gets the surprise in that fight already knows the fight. Any normal person going in blind is going to end up bumbling into the fight halfway across the cave and have the phase spider teleport on top of you.

Truth be told, it is an association far, far later than Tolkien's works.

I'd say it's after twinks became overly sexualized among the gays, which is quite a long time after Tolkien.

I'm mildly concerned this means they're going to pull off another stunt like in DOS2 where all the companions who aren't in your party either die or run off.

They retconned that
What the hell, you can fuck your followers as early as act 1?
Have they simply no shame or are they going all-in on trying to appeal to cumbrains and waifufags?
You could do that in Original Sin 2. You can fuck Fane when you get on the boat at the end of chapter 1.
