The plot here is mostly set yeah but besides that there're many, many instances where the game plays out differently depending on who the player is and what he chooses (both origin and not). On par with and beyond Arcanum, which is somewhat of a gold standard in this regard if you ask me.

We're speaking on different languages, that's for certain. First of all in Disco you play as Harry 100% times although the game indeed reacts on your chosen skills and some actions. In general it's pretty linear though I might note. At best you can just skip stuff like cheching the body at all.

What I like about Arcanum and by extension subj is that it really does react on your chosen race, class and even subclass. Some previous choices. There's really a lot of those. Regarding c&c yeah there's a lot of fake ones but that's true for most of RPGs. There're some true ones like as with major quests like the hag, the governor (or whoever was that bitch from the burning building) and so on and so forth. They went strong on origin companions too (which I dislike the most but like I said personally I'm barely TA unlike say the same Disco) in that regard. Especially Shadow slut and closet Gale.

It all boils down to the an article by Sawyer. Fighters are either auto attack spammers or weapon mages, D&D has AA spammers. Larian decided to give you shove, throw and use improvised weapon actions which are sometimes useful(if you pick up one enemy and hit another with him one of them will be knocked down for instance), but there is a point in the game where if you don't have some instakill shove angle you're better off just hitting because more damage this way.

I have no idea why people hate or love BG3 so much. It is just another Larian game, with the good combat, good reactivity, terrible writing, terrible world building, and what apparently passes for "humor" in Europe infused into much of the game. Why would you ever take this game seriously? Larian certainly didn't, and never does. It 100% IS just a theme park with random encounters they threw in they thought would be fun or cool, if you thought it would be something else, then you are not familiar with Larian products. With that in mind, I think the only major criticisms you can make of this game is Larians terrible control scheme, and that the combat is actually a significant downgrade from their previous efforts since they used 5E D&D, the absolute worst edition of D&D ever made, especially when it comes to combat.
