I wonder if you can play the dumb character with low intelligence check and actually beat the mindflayer.

BG1 is a lot better if you pretend that the whole Bhaalspawn shit doesn't exist and you treat it as a vengeance storyline to kill an evil black knight for punking your daddy in the woods.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath

Page 29:

I also hope that the scaling won't go from low level D&D to just killing dragons by mid-game. It is nonsensical to expect this from Larian but if they did turn-based low level D&D it could be great. Just BG1 but turn-based. I guess I am also stupid for hoping for this.
Page 67:

So Witcher 3: Baldur's Gate edition. You *know* WotC told them to make it "like that witch game". Clearing nests of mindflayers strewn about the city, collecting mindflayer spunk to win a prize, collect 8 mindflayer tentacles quests, Witcher Bhaalspawn vision, etc.
Time is a flat circle.

ITT people are not only aware that they've been repeating the same tired jokes for almost 200 pages, they're actually proud of it.

This is what happens when you have an entire forum for a genre of video games that get so few releases.

Besides, isn't it metacommentary? We have here sequel to a game 15 year old, it is only right that we repeat same tired phrases as the developers do.

Also IТT are people who haven't figured out what the combat system and quest design are going to be like for 200 pages. Which means our tired jokes are worth repeating. Sometimes people are ...special and need extra help. That is ok, we are happy to assist.

No this is what happens when you have a single news poster, and it just happens that he suffers from aggressive mental debilitation. There is plenty of stuff to write about

Yes, I apologize for not posting more news about...MMOs, JRPGs, and every single strategy game with "RPG elements".

You're right, better to focus on AAA popamole filth. All 2 of them.

I don't know if you are playing dumb or are genuinely a debilitated cretin, but it's purely a matter of posting more. All you needed to do is mechanically repost links from other websites, it doesn't involve thinking so it wont damage your brain

True, especially if you consider that the big reveal is told in a LETTER. In any other story you would have found this out in a temple of Bhaal or something. And if you cut the the Bhaalspawnpart out and swap it with your adoptive father being a Harper, you wouldn't lose anything (and Sarevok may be the son of another bad guy bend on revenge and bamm, plot).

The only game that tops BG1 in 'epic fantasy' scale is BG2. You're a fucking half-deity of the lord of murder.

Technically, yes. The game doesn't play like that though. You start as an orphan who is suddenly thrown into the wilds to fend for yourself. You are struggling in mines and plains against kobolds and bandits. The combat is fast, grounded and lethal, people die to crossbow hits and lucky crits from two-handed weapons. Your entire party can die to an assassin in first town you go if you are particularly unlucky with hits. Even the prime antagonist Sarevok, who is also son of lord of murder, is more like an evil knight.

So from a purely "lore" point of view, it is epic. The reality of how the game plays and what you are doing is different though. It would have been better if you weren't half-deity child of lord of murder and neither was Sarevok. Still, compared to storyline of BG2 and what this BG3 looks like or indeed compared to PoE1/2 or DIVOS2 it is really down to earth. While technically being an epic fantasy, it feels borderline low fantasy.

Sequels also feel the need to become more and more 'epic' and one-up the previous iteration in stakes. This always ends up with an increasingly absurd and often predictable story. Take Diablo for example. A local tale taking place in one town in one monastery -> a worldwide tale involving the demon and his brothers destroying the world stone -> a worldwide tale that involves all the big, huge demons forming into one mega demon and then an angel infused with the mega demon power.

A smaller, localized story feels every bit as 'epic' while maintaining the sense that a much larger world remains. Never make a big world feel small by leaving so little to the imagination.

Nests have uchuulons, urophions, mozgriken, sometimes ulitharids or alhoons. Perhaps even an elder brain if it's in transit.

OK, I need to seriously brush up on my Illithid Biology. Elder brains can move?

Also, a question to you knowledgeble gentlemen, how does an elder brain actually come about? Never managed to wiki this tidbit. Is it the next step up from an ulitharid? Does an ulitharid undergo some sort of a metamorphosis and becomes an elder brain?

Elder brains can move in a sort of vat filled with brine-water, and it's pulled like a cart. Elder brains are created by fusing a bunch of old illithid brains together.

I just noticed that the elder brain CR has been reduced from 25 in 3E to 14 in 5E. Coincidence? I think not.

When I saw Larian going all in with the Illithid, putting them everywhere, slapping an Illithid face over the company logo, coming up with Illithid paladins, flying (?) Illithid in the skies in the trailer, I knew they are going to ruin it.

I'm not surprised Swen can't handle intellectual property at all, because he has no sense of measure. But I'm surprised WotC care so little about preserving what took decades to flesh out and are helping Larian bring down D&D's stock. Guess money and green ruin everything.

Wasn't the Illithid paladin a Beamdog creation for their draft of BG3?
