"So many new releases" in what fucking dimension is he living?

There was almost nothing released this year except this game, Hogwart Legacy (typical ubi) and Colony Ship.
You're simply not paying attention, this year has been insane for RPGs and there are more to come.
Give names, come on I dare you, give freaking names of "INSANE" RPGs released this year.
I'm not saying the RPGs are insane, I'm saying there's an insane number of them.

A quest that became legend ( what a bland title for a game)- indie game ok
Space Wreck- short indie game ok
Starfield - shit game
Dark Envoy- tactical game
Demon lords- indie game
Warhammer 40k Rogue trader - Ok , that's one new fresh RPG (still not released mind you)

So what's extraordinary? 4 indie games, 1 game with budget and 1 awful game with billions of dollars of budget released this year.

Highly doubt Swen was talking about anything but the AAA space anyway. Still have to project fake humility, like his game wasn't the obvious front-runner this year. That's how it goes in the biz.

And The Iron Oath, Jagged Alliance 3, Islands of the Caliph, Caves of Lore, and later this year, Legends of Amberland 2, The Thaumaturge.

That's excluding Early Access and DLC, including significant expansions such as CP2077: Phantom Liberty and Solasta: Palace of Ice.

Because "We're proud to announce that we win every game awards by default because absolutely nothing worthwhile has been released this year or in the foreseeable future" certainly does not have the same ring to wining the participation award.

Legends of Amberland 2 was released in 2019 and The Thaumaturge is not even released yet.

It would be faster to just mention games worthy of interest. Stuff like Amberland is nice as a hobby project, but it's quite primitive. I'd applaud if it were realized on a C64 or Amiga as a personal challenge. However, I really don't see the point of creating such games nowadays. This year, only BG3, CP2077: Phantom Liberty, and Solasta: Palace of Ice are worth mentioning and playing, starfield too of course as shit it is , and diablo 4, it was more fun to see SDG sperging about than playing it. I have yet to try Colony Ship, and I don't have much hope for it based on reading the threads and reviews, which is not surprising for a Codex darling.

At least there are people become interested in CRPG because of BG3. Not much but there are some of them.

Though from what I can tell, most of them are interested in a different aspect of the game(mostly story and romance, especially romance) comparing to people on codex, but still as long as they buy those smaller CRPG that's a good thing.
If BG3 causes millions of people to become interested in tactical, turn-based, squad-based combat, from which they move on to Tactical RPGs and squad-based tactics games, this will be an immense benefit to prestigious future games.

If BG3 results in smaller CRPG developers pandering to BG3's main audience by prominently including romances with overwrought, pre-generated party members this will be immense decline.

These two consequences aren't mutually exclusive. :M
The fact that it's tactical and turn-based is just a side aspect of the game. So, do you even need to know any of the 5E rules when playing this in story mode? Many casual players will just opt for this mode. The game handles all the calculations, allows you to auto-level, and it's hard to mess up a build in 5E; it's not even possible. Its success is due to it being adult-oriented with a good story, looking good, and being fun; that's all there is to it. A full action game would have done just as well with that recipe.

I don't know if anyone should care who wins these awards in the abstract, but beating out Starfield is a real accomplishment, particularly given how many Doritos Bethesda might be expected to purchase. It's true for sales and awards, going head-to-head with a juggernaut like that and coming out on top, for an isometric RPG, is something special.

That said; outside of the Potter game and Starfield, the rest of the field would have to pool their resources for a single Dorito. (I purchased Palace of Ice, but even a Solasta-diehard like me wouldn't nominate it for owt).

Lol at the cope, BG3 is literally the only crpg anyone cares about. And just kill anyone you don't like, takes care of the "woke" aspect too.
99% of the npcs. Kill them, including the woke companions, which is all of them.

Clown of the year award. Coping hard at this woke trash, only thing that saves it is turn-based combat + co-op. It will not be remembered for anything else.

Let's try to not minimize Bethesda's achievement : they tried their hardest to make Cottonfield a complete flop.

If what bothers you the most about this game is supposed 'wokeness' and not lack of archetypical boorish dwarves with beards, melancholic elves, sneaky and smug gnomes etc then you are obsessed sad little man. Thankfully goblins were made into comically evil beings so I had lots of fun genociding them as my chivalric, plate armor wearing ranger

Speaking of which, have they fixed Minthara? I know they said twice that they "fixed" her, but what did that exactly entail? Was it just some missing conversation triggers, or does she actually have content in act 3?
