Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
I think the city content is good, investigating the murders, spanking Cazador, dealing with the hag for good... I HAVE been having fun in Baldur's Gate.

The issue might be... the game is just too long for its own good, especially if you're a completionist. I'm 120 hours in and still in the Lower City and the familiar feeling "it's good but I wish it was already over" creeped in about 10 hours ago. Alas, I'm eternally compelled to wipe my quest journal clean.

It's just like Elden Ring - a great game but not as great as to support a 100+ hours playthrough. Hopefully I'll finish by tomorrow evening coz I really wanna move on to Stalker.

ACT III was just wildly unfocused and as you hit the level cap early on it does seem like a bit of a slog to keep going. Saying that, there is some pretty decent content like the House of Hope and Cazador's manse to explore there.

It’s like confessing you are a drooling retard. Congratulations, I guess
You're new here so I'll overlook this rudeness for once but be warned, DarkUnderlord is enforcing a civil and respectful environment on the Codex and he's very strict about toxic comments like that.

I guess he's screwed then. That guy's always a cunt.

this is Larien's problem. they always spend too much time fucking around in their act 1 early access. Act 3 is where the game should have REALLY started.

I think the reason the 3-rd act feels underwhelming is simply because story loses all forward momentum at that point. All the mystery behind the Absolute is gone and replaced with a couple of cartoony villains and a helium baloon-brain thingie. The only things left to discover are small details, like finding out that multiple murders around the city are being carried out by murderous cult of murderers for the purpose of pleasing a god of murder. Or that evil god of deception has been deceiving one of your companions all this time because evil.

There are some individual moments and locations that are good, but they're just their own thing. They don't feel like a part of something bigger. And then there's C&C which amounts to basically - if you choose X you get X, and if you choose Y you get Y. If you side with this character/group, then this is who you side with, the end. I can appreciate the amount of effort that went into building all of this, but the whole setup is just not very interesting to interact with.

Well you don't have to do all the side quests in ACT 3, it's like people are critizing the last ACT because there's still so much content. The only valid criticism at that point is that you probably have hit the level cap by that point. (although getting better equipment is a nice substitute for not being able to level up anymore)

No dumbass, it’s being criticized because it’s a stale, uninspiring snorefest with all the creativity replaced by soyness. Understanding this will require you to stop being a shill though

Act iii also has two of the most vomit inducing music pieces in the whole CRPG history: Raphael fight and the camp/hotel theme

The ability to switch between RTWP and turn based would have helped this game but Larian can only do Divinity unfortunately.

Enemy mob #317: RTWP kill in 50 seconds

Actually challenging boss: go tactical

Yeah a lot of the content is a drastic vibe shift from previous acts, Almost feels like a different genre. It just takes you out of the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 defies the laws of physics by being a single-player RPG with more daily users in 2024 than its release year

Baldur's Gate 3, pound for pound, has had more daily users in 2024 than in 2023, which feels a little bit like setting a coin spinning, going on holiday for a week, and then coming back only to find it still whirring away on your table.

That's as per Michael Douse, Larian Studios' director of publishing, who revealed some numbers on X today. According to him, Baldur's Gate 3 had 3% more daily peak concurrents, 20% more daily active users, and a 61% bump in daily Steam Deck users—in the second year of its release.

This is staggering, quite frankly, because Baldur's Gate 3 is not technically a game that's meant to be played for so long. You might see that kind of year-on-year growth out of a live service game, or an MMORPG after a new expansion pack release, but Larian's natural 20 doesn't have a whiff of any of that in it. It is objectively a game that's meant to be played for 100-something hours, lauded, loved, and put down for the occasional revisit. I feel like Kronk in Emperor's New Groove, staring at a graph and going "Well, ya got me, by all accounts it doesn't make sense."

Douse theorises that this is basically due to the recent mod support, adding to those numbers the kind of deep insights you'd expect out of a head of publishing, such as "mods are good" and "mods are very good"—he's not wrong.

While I agree with that assessment, it should be pointed out that Baldur's Gate 3's official mod support only arrived in September of this year. I'm sure another boon was Honour Mode, which released late 2023 but had players, myself included, going back for more playthroughs into early 2024 for the bragging rights of golden dice (which I snagged, thank you very much).

There are also statistical explanations—technically, Douse is measuring half a year of 2023 compared to almost a full year of 2024, since Baldur's Gate 3 came out in August last year, buoyed by a steadily-climbing cloud of early access hype. On the other hand, it released to over 875,000 players on Steam, a number that wouldn't dip below 200,000 players until the end of the year.

Honestly, maybe I'm just trying too hard to explain these natural forces. Baldur's Gate 3 feels like a gigantic milestone—an evolution of the CRPGs of yore that perfected a formula then pushed it just a little further. As a result, it's got a ton of different endings, and a story that's been slowly polished to a mirror shine with things like a new epilogue and evil endings hooking players back in. It's a 100+ hour long RPG, sure, but you might go in for a second breakfast of epic fantasy—especially when there's not much competition scratching the same, choice-based itch. Mods are good, yes, but so's Baldur's Gate 3.

the problem with act 3 is the same as it was in Div:OS2, you're just wrapping up loose ends in a grocery list manner while barely paying attention to the fights. oh nice buildup to this so so scary vampire who goes down in two rounds to max level kitted out party

I have finally started BG3 for the first time. My first observation is that I miss the Line-of-Sight white line from Solasta. My friendly buddy that told me that I could see my opponent before I moved. I miss that mother fucker like you would not believe.

id argue Dragon Age did the party dynamics MUCH better. BG3 is a weird Frankenstein that still has too many DOS2 elements, like every party member being the main character, and the worst camping system ever created. its certainly not an evolution or a polished story

I truly hate the Larian - every NPC is really a PC waiting for the chance thing, meaning that whatever you create is just some dickhead if you don't pick an out of the box guy.
I didnt play BG3, can you at least murder all the party members and hire a full hireling party?

If you don't care about missing out on quests and such, sure.

I killed Wyll and Lae'zel and I do not regret it.

I have a few remarks like these through... and I wasn't kidding. It made me laugh and laugh. Especially before they toned down her bitchiness. She'd be all hostile and my reaction was like, "You wot?"

I kinda like firing Lae'zel off the side of the ship right after she jumps down. It makes me laugh anyway.

I still fondly remember launching Lae'zel off the side of the airship right after she was introduced. It was like she had Boba Fett's malfunctioning jetpack on.

You can. Although the game rarely acknowledges the fact if at all. E.g. long after ditching SH she is still mentioned in party banter as if she’s still present in the party.
