Did you open a box you shouldn't have opened?
Isn't the box
related to skeletons, not vampires?

Yeah, you are correct.

Edit:

Or actually it seems to be a mix. Here is my playthrough where I get decimated by opening the box:

"We will take an easy mission"... lol. Battle Brothers never change.

This game is pretty good, but it is more RNG heavy than Darkest Dungeon lol

Try to avoid situations where you need good luck (or even decent luck) to win.

I went into woods got ambushed by 5 vampires, game over not much can be done except avoiding trees.
More rng heaavy than Darkest Dungeon - it really isn't. And it gets less rng heavy as you progress and your bros cannot be two-hits killed anymore. However, it is true that the visual range in the forest is very small. Which means that yes, forests are more dangerous. Have you ever heard that story about little red riding hood and the wolf? In the forest? That's it. However as other have pointed, normally you do not encounter undead in a forest. Brigands, webknechts, that sort of stuff, Not recommended for party in the very beginning (except spiders) but ok past that. Usually.
One of the skill of playing this game is knowing when to fight and when to run. Preferably running should take place before decision to fight, not middle of fight. At the beginning low level humans and undead + some easy beasts (be careful with Nachos, they can be easy or deadly) are all you can handle. Also the game scales (to a point!) encounters to your numbers so if you loose a few brothers you can still recover, no need to end the run. Tough if that happens early and you are almost wiped out, feel free to do so.

Edit: I suggest a small mod that pauses the game in some additional situations, tough some find it "cheating" or something. I think the game should come with the options. It is a turn based games not a RT one after all.

This you channel? Very nice. You could sometimes talk a bit more clearly. I'm not talking about accent but the voice itself. But otherwise, i like it. Goode choice of games.

I already installed mods that are available restarting early to mid-game constantly got boring rather quickly

You installed Legends? Already? Well, it is your game but don't come cry that some things are unbalanced. It might be a mod with many great or at least interesting changes but difficulty balance isn't one of them - afaik - but i haven't played it yet.

First thing is to keep the finger on the pause button when traveling until your party can handle itself.
Second thing is to be careful when traveling through woods and don't fight there even later, at the very least, it's tedious.
Third thing is to avoid woods altogether at night until your party is strong (you'll know).
Fourth is to pick background like miner, hunter, messenger with movement bonuses (with legends)

There's a learning curve, everything is difficult until it isn't.
Don't use legendary difficulty until you're a BB veteran.

It's not harder, it used to be but no more, unless you pick legendary difficulty.
Well, it gets harder late game and monsters now can be champions so, enemies perk shouldn't be picked lightly.
Well, of course, if you want to farm champions, it's a good way to get more named weapons but champions lindwurms are not a joke.

It could be related to how late you are in the campaign. I never bothered taking this mission past early phase in my playthroughs and as such I must've missed this possibility.

The hard part is enduring the tedium of dealing with the layered armour system.

But you can disable that feature, can't you?

I played with the layer system recently, i still hate it but early on, you can just ignore it and only collect named layers for later.

If you like nimble bros, you're out of luck though because cool named armors and helms are hard to reproduce with the layers.
That's really an autistic feature, almost as much as Ifrits and wielderganders (probably misspelled it).

So what happens here, are you in love with me or something faggot?
Go talk with someone interested with your nonsense.

Also, you're lucky it's a forum, I don't want to make my Mark Cleveland Blackmore but I used to eat two retards like you daily, most of the time, they ran to their mama after a simple smack on the face, you look like just the type.

If you didn't live in a third world country, i would offer to come by to demonstrate.

I think i fucked up i invested most of my stuff into spears and bows and almost all late game enemies are super armored or resistant to piercing dmg those late game events are also quite tedious nothing but greenskins i got quite bored after beating them over and over again so i started doing diffrent contracts and after few hours i got message that we are losing war against them lol

You"ll need 2 handers as soon as mid game and spear builds are still valid if specialized with spearwall plus the talent that increases crits every time you hit, but yes, they slowly become less efficientespecially with late game heavily armored ennemies.
