Are there any benefits to buying food besides Grounded Grain, aside from the expiration date?
Grain isn't always cheapest.

German Gamestar magazine did a video on the game (German only):
Also they might become unhappy if it's only grains. If you have different foods in stock, your guys might become happy from having a variety of stuff to eat.
Btw when I mentioned getting more expensive bros I didnt mean the ones with the expensive equipment but higher level. A level 4 Raider for example can be around 2-3k which is an "OK" price to pay at that point of the game and usually guarantees a 70+ melee skill (at least after you do the level ups)
In my experience, they never cause any problem. In fact they're my main source of food when I go raiding in the wilds.Sarissofoi, do you know if there are any negative events or debuffs assosiated with the mystery meat you can get from orks/undead/goblins, or did the devs not think that far?

With the release build's higher lethality (marksmen spam etc), I'm considering skipping the 150 pt armors tbh. Could work if you can get 210pt armors in a small fort, or even a settlement, or if you can get them on sale in the market at low durability.
Buying stuff at low durability in markets in places with blacksmith/weaponsmith and the relevant resource buildings has really helped me get guys equipped early.
Mercenaries can be extremely(maybe not) easy to defeat if you lucky and have mid gear and mid level at last mostly because you can use your number advantage. Skills needed.
6-8 merc with 1-3 dogs vs your 12 plus dogs(up to 12).
You can not do much farming against them(need to kill them quickly) but if you have flails you can get some nice armors cheap and plenty.
Loving the "racist" ratings hahahaha
Can't believe gamestar still exists though.
I remember reading that old rag like 15 years ago and wondering how they can have super-intricate walkthroughs for, say, earth 2140 or whatever it was but every time you'd see them play on video they were complete amateurs. In retrospect it's rather obvious what was going on, but man...
And those useless fucking tests that just spoil the story and tell you nothing of value about the gameplay beyond comically obvious generalities. Little in the way of bug mentions either.

Step 1
>take high ground
Step 2
>take high losses
Step 3
>endure and win

There is "Taste like chicken" event but you need specific background and only strange meat as supplies for sometime. Probably plenty of luck too.
I was once raiding wild lands, eat all food and get supplies from destroying orc camps and their hunting parties.

I never could bring myself to make my bros eat that stuff haha, too paranoid.
Yeah, that's how I got most of my armor in my current playthrough. I would just leave a tank shieldwalling the leader on his own (rotation helped with that) while the rest of the company would rout the brigands then turn around and dagger the leader in the back. But it's day 150 now and all those Hedge Knights never had any named weapons. Plenty of 300 durability armor thoughWell you can always hunt for bandit leaders and hedge knights or mercenaries and bounty hunters. They use to drop good armors.

Many losses, bad map, lots of wasted upkeep...?
do stars do fucking anything??

Never got that ambition. I'm on the kill 12 dudes now. Probably a easy one since all the parties are over 12.
Looks like the war might still be going on. Just had a major fuck up with the ambition. Kinda annoying since now I can't see how the war is progressing.
Edit:
Hmmm, the whole map also got uncovered for some reason. Fog of war is just gone.
