Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Wait we have someone in here that cares about multiplayer more than singleplayer???

For a game about strategy I'll take a human opponent over a shitty AI any day.

That goes double if HBS is going to pull a shadowrun and make AI pilots only use half their actions to attack.

I have no faith in HBS's single player design. If they manage to implement PvP, it will probably end up being the best gameplay element.

They advertise the game with Shadowrun: Hong Kong bland, boring music. Hype dropped to zero.

Stretch goals are retarded.
Multiplayer is the one thing I wanted from the game, and it's at $2.5 million.

Meanwhile, Golem Arcana got $518k, SRR got $1.8mil and SRHK got $1.2 mil.
On top of that, their previous games had a $15 buy-in minimum if you wanted a digital copy. Now they're asking for $25.

It's a shame, because I was pumped for this game until I saw how they prioritized the goals. I set a reminder for when there's 48 hours left. If they've broken $2.5 mil by then, I might buy in at minimum price. Otherwise this thing is bundle fodder.
Well they are going to reach the 2mil - I think that chance is like 99%. It will be interesting to see how much higher than that it will go, personally I think it will get to almost 3mil.

Isn't this thread in the wrong forum? They aren't even claiming to have any RPG elements.

From the KS main page:

Is this an RPG like your Shadowrun games?

Our Shadowrun games are cRPGs with tactical combat. BATTLETECH will be a tactical ‘Mech combat game. If we’re lucky enough to reach the Stage 2 and Stage 3 co-funding levels, we'll be able to add some RPG elements, but the core of this game is tactical combat.

Adding "some RPG elements" is a stretch goal, so they aren't part of the base pitch.

And pretty unlikely to succeed given their previous KS totals and Shadowrun being a more popular IP than mechwarrior right now.

Shadowrun has never been more popular than Mechwarrior/Battletech. If you take the tabletop BTech versus PnP shadowrun only I might give that to you, but the long lineage of Mechwarrior and Btech PC titles puts Shadowrun to shame.

Day 1 KS counts:

Battletech: 754k (12 hours)
Pillars of Eternity - $705k
Divinity 2: $534k
Wasteland 2: $470k

Only beat by Torment and Shenmu 3, heh.

Well, miniatures fanatics for an existing IP are a pretty good target market compared to pen-and-paper fans (especially if your RPG club handed out photocopied 'warez' versions of rulebooks, like mine did) -- heavy investment into and loyalty for the IP, plus probably a whole lot of disposable income. Warmachine is a much smaller IP, and WM:Tactics still got 1.6mil in its kickstarter... despite the dev team being a completely unknown quantity (they had the backing of Privateer Press, but still) and the KS itself not being organized that well.

I don't understand how they can get that much without showing gameplay in a gameplay-focused game. Their other games have the shittiest combat imaginable, so this seems awfully lenient to me. Whatever. Kickstarter gonna Kickstarter I guess.

Battletech fans will throw a lot of money at the slightest promise of a working mech game, as shown by MWO.

FASA IPs have a huge nostalgic power, how many mech strategy games that aren't animu retarded and have a huge storyline and universe built around them do you know? You are assuming that the average player and the average game designer even know what shitty combat is.

BTW, ITT I'd really like to hear from the preachers of KS burnout - come tell us about how incline is over, Kickstarter is dead and no-one can get decent funding for your project via crowdsourcing anymore.

Actually, BattleTech was designed by Weisman, so the players appalled by his designs are probably not fans of Battletech in the first place.
