Well, so much for my $22.5k per day prediction. Doesn't look like they'll make the PVP now unless this is the calm before the storm.

I'm of 2 minds about failing to reach PvP...

Sure, it would be cool if they implemented Solaris VII and all of the famous Solaris battlegrounds (a la Michael Stackpole's Assumption of Risk), but...

... unless they implement some organizational support like ladders, guilds, tournaments etc, there really isn't much motivation to do PvP. The scope is too limited, and it isn't like there's an rpg grind element either. This isn't Alpha Centauri, and it isn't Card Hunter either.

Thank god they won't make it for PvP,that shit is time consuming and i know it will hurt the single-player experience, so i'm happy.:smug:

I still think they have a good chance of making pvp. They'll make nothing in the next week or so but the required spike in the last 3 days doesn't seem implausible.

Just call me Nostradamus :smug:
It's not over yet. Not saying they'll make it, but...

New digital tier added at $85.00 in the latest update. Should provide a boost. Already upgraded. Rawr.

Update #11 also adds to Unseen battlemechs recently modeled by PGI to the HBS mechlist. Plus a new backer bonus mission.

Hey Everyone!

We’re ridiculously excited to announce that thanks to our friends at Piranha Games, we’re adding two reimagined classic BattleMechs from the original boardgame to our BATTLETECH game - the Marauder and the Warhammer!

Here’s some quick reference about these two heavy ‘Mechs from our (other) friends at Catalyst Game Labs’ Master Unit List.

http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/3482/warhammer-whm-11t

http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/2053/marauder-ii-bounty-hunter

The Master Unit List is an online tool for players to sort through the myriad units that populate the BattleTech universe. For example, the links above showcase one of several versions of the Warhammer and Marauder. Have fun exploring the MUL to find the unit you're looking for.

New Digital Reward Level!
We’re also excited to tell you about our new $85 Digital Reward Level - INITIATE OF THE ORDER.

Which order? The Order of Valhalla!

scVfDK1C13h0dYTldysfKp1VkqbAN1xJDTd_yTmQm1PmXu8kDE0olWvTfRxPQHMkQS87LwOTZ5rDJ-NqE4wHP-Uf65EzOz4Cg50Eb0AAXzyj6QaZKdHG2ou_ZkwubDIx2Twc6Z9DI0iREIIvd8Kzqi3lofYaIt93ZNiGf8ak4AREIqxPTEgiydufSq5C_QLI883Apub6Vlrb8E3faZhYDOhRgYYnOoCKuW4iRvGAhELtItzS3aYj7pKRVfxyyFvj=s0-d-e1-ft

Valhalla, the paradise promised to Vikings who die in combat, is also the name of the most elite establishment on Solaris VII whose doors are only open to those who have distinguished themselves above all others. While Terra may be the geographic center of the Inner Sphere many would argue that Valhalla is actually the social, entertainment, and even political center of the Inner Sphere.

Valhalla’s hallowed halls are populated with the champions of all of Solaris’ gladiatorial arenas, the Ambassadors and military elite of every Great House, the leaders of the most prominent and/or notorious Mercenary Outfits, the rich descendants of the most noble ancient families, and of course hidden among them – the very best espionage agents the Great Houses can field. But it is only the descendants of those that founded Valhalla who are members of the elite Order of Valhalla.

At Valhalla’s tables, made of ancient wood of Terra, the Order of Valhalla members put aside politics and gladiatorial posturing around them to enjoy the company of those few who can really understand a warrior’s life and the meaning of their eventual deaths. The walls of Valhalla are a constant reminder that death is certain but that immortality is possible, for on the walls hang the sections of each fallen warrior’s cockpit displaying their name and heraldry. Each member of the Order of Valhalla knows that should they encounter each other across an arena or a battlefield no quarter will be given, but should one of them fall in battle they know each will do the other the honor of retrieving their “shield” for display on the walls of Valhalla.

As an INITIATE OF THE ORDER, Backers at this Digital $85 Reward Level will get:

1) Access to the private VALHALLA sub-forum of the upcoming BATTLETECH community site. Only Initiates of the Order and Solaris VII Champions will have access to Valhalla.

2) A small ORDER OF VALHALLA ICON will display next to your avatar or username in BATTLETECH forums (and in multiplayer if funded), identifying you as an Initiate of the Order.

3) A SET OF Order of Valhalla DECORATIVE ITEMS for your DROPSHIP’S COMMANDER’S QUARTERS. You’ll get special options such as artwork, banners, and letters of marque to add to your room.

4) A special BADGE OF THE ORDER that you can incorporate into your Mercenary outfit’s emblem, which will appear as your Mercenary identifier in the game, on your 'Mechs, and in social locations such as forums and leaderboards (if the multiplayer Funding Stage 4 is achieved.)

5) A UNIQUE ORDER OF VALHALLA PAINT SCHEME available for 8 'Mech chassis of historical significance to the Order. These exclusive paint schemes will appear on the Locust, Shadow Hawk, Thunderbolt, Warhammer, Marauder, andBattleMaster and two more classic BattleMechs we’ll announce at a later date!

If you’ve already Backed the project at a lower level and wish to upgrade your Reward Level, click "Manage Your Pledge" in the upper right corner of the Kickstarter page (the blue button) and then click the $85 Reward Selection button.

Sooo.. the Marauder inclusion bodes a question I've always been curious about:

Mech design similarities between Battletech and Robotech.

As a kid I loved both. It wasn't lost on me that some of the designs were shared.

Anyhoo, I found this semi-poorly written (non descriptive) piece on the situation (http://www.thecomputershow.com/stormforge/btrobosuit.html), and was surprised to find out that the original artist sold these design to both companies (even more so, that Japanese companies would be sourcing artwork from Americans in the 1980s, presuming this story is true). Anybody know more about this side of things?

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Unseen

I've never before seen or heard that the Macross designs were originally done by an American.

To fill in the gaps in from that wiki article to the present. All of the rights were largely worked out with all the Unseen except for the Macross designs, and MWO started using re-imaginings of them in the last 2 years. Also, they are no longer using the actual original artwork, but the elements are similar enough for each mech for them to be recognizable.

Fast forward to now, Harmony Gold is largely defunct at this point, and CGL and PGI have released artwork and mechs that originally used Macross Unseen images as basically throwing down the gauntlet. They haven't stated they worked out the rights dispute with the Macross people, so I assume that CGLs parent company Topps has lawyers in the pocket if anything happens. You have to understand that for years and years Harmony Gold issued cease and desist orders for anyone even thinking of using anything related to the intellectual properties for which they held the US distribution rights.

I mean - I'm not going to back a kickstarter, but the the game looks interesting. Hopefully it turns out well (and I have the time to play it) when it's released.

I'm pretty excited about the inclusion of the Warhammer (mech). That's a pretty iconic design.

They also got a new 10k backer. The previous mini-spike around the 14th was when they added new add-ons for Battletech pdfs, these guys run quite a well-planned kickstarter these days.

I hope they hit $2,499,999 dollars backing. More monies to improve the single player and pvp isn't kickstarted.:kfc:

yes yes, i know if they hit a close enough number they'll probably say fuck it and add said feature anyway

I just had a good look at this. Seems interesting. My brother used to play this on the tabletop with a few friends. Occasionally I was roped into it.

I looked at the date of the campaign...I think it is set lat the same time as the stuff my brother used. I still remember mechs called 'Jenners' and 'Chameleons', 'Locusts', and the name Katrina and Melissa Steiner, along with House Steiner (the symbol is a mailed fist) ring a bell.

I will keep an eye on this. I won't back it though. I don't want some PvP crap managing to take oxygen off the single player aspects.

This is the first KS I backed that I dont want to fully succeed. Fuck multiplayer being in every game these days. Fuck if being a moneysink (afaik HBS never implemented multi = new grounds to explore = will cost more than planned).

And in particular fuck all of those who scream for multiplayer in every game ever made.

You know man, I'm usually this way too but every once in a while I'll play Shining Force or Realms of Arkania or something and think to myself, "I wish I could play this with my friends." As long as it's secondary to the main campaign, I'm fine with it.

It's probably appropriate anyway because I'm pretty sure you could fight other players in the tabletop Battletech.

I understand the sentiment, but MP in game that is not planned from grounds-up to have MP is usually (as in: always) crap. Especially considering it is basically a totally separate game (using same engine/assets etc.) which they plan to do with 350k (last stretchgoal before 2,5m is 2,15m).

So basically - there is no such thing as adding MP to a game. It either has it from start or not. But hey, I'm not a dev, you are - what is your opinion on creating multiplayer for 350k for a game that has 2m+ budget for SP?

How is it a separate game? They've got a skirmish mode that is like a standalone multiplayer match but against the computer.
