/me skims through thread

Pronouns, huh?

I like when codex shits on fresh games (it was the only site that pointed out the flaws of DOS.II), but it's getting hard to extract any valuable criticism from this thread.

It crashes, like, a lot.
Game is still unbalanced, several contents cut out since beta due to difficulty.
Paradox wants to be a big boy and started enforcing their own DRM. Oh, and multiplayer is a thing.
Story is mediocre; though I still on the hedge on this since the codex also has polarized opinions about Dragonfall and Hong Kong.

These are pretty generic flaws but nonetheless they are still significant, especially the first two. They are enough to turn me away from the game, for now.

Ack, spent all night trying to replay one side mission with a low payout and no good salvage. 4 vehicles that wouldn't fucking die plus 2 light mechs bombarding me with PPCs. Convoy ambush missions suck.

->Do the next story mission and whatev, not hard at all, get 1,000,000 spacebucks.
Similar experience here. Sent two light mechs to flank, using their speed to set up a blockade further down the road while my other mechs attempted to draw away the convoy's escort. The enemy's 4 light mechs tagged my diversionary force to drain their evasion and gave as good as they got. Meanwhile in another part of the map the convoy tanks tore through my light mechs like a toddler through Christmas wrapping paper. I'm hoping this bodes well for the difficulty considering the worries surrounding it.

Also, the general slowness and crummy loading times are starting to make me hate it. Game does not look good enough to play this poorly.
I did one of those as well with 3 mediums and 1 light mech lance. It was a bit more challenging than others but also more fun as a result. I did it with minor structural damage, no pilot injuries and no lost MECH parts.
Maybe you just suck at this fairly easy game.

With light mechs you should melee enemy tanks, also always move them a lot so you get the evasion bonus.
Also learn to hide Light mechs outside of line of sight, reserve until enemies did their action and then attack with Light mech. You then get two actions before enemy can do their next one. That way if your attack option leaves enemies alive and you don't think you can take them out, you can use your second action to retreat outside line of sight again. Also the vehicles that are not main targets have much lower armor than the main target ones. If you got mechs that cannot take punishment be sure to take out those first so you got less enemies shooting at you.

I have no crashes, but the loading times are atrocious. They screwed up on the memory handle side.
The game itself is not bad and the constant lack of money should be reflected by a subtitle: "Battletech: Constantly broke." It reminds me of my early student years. But after the prison planet i get slowly more money.
What i miss is the RPG aspect of the game, but it was clear from the beginning that this is not going to be a cRPG. Also the game rules deviate quite strong from the original rules and remind me a bit of Mechwarrior Online, which btw has better graphics a larger battlefield with more units on the battlefied and has a lower usage of memory and much shorter loading times. This makes you think.

To the SJW aspect of the game:
The "main" Crew is a wet dream of SJWs:
You have a "unnecessary" Nassau Negro, two more or less useful Asians and one hijab worm on board. So diverse. No wonder this merc company is fucked up.
The nassau Negro is unable to find good contracts to pay off the debts for the Leopard class dropship. The asian mechanic is where he belongs: in a sweatshop making things for the white commander. The asian medic/entertainer looks like she would be good at thai massages with happy ending.
The hijab worm would never get on a ship to travel with foreign men, because her father would either kill her or her brother would throw acid in her face or her sharia planet gouverment would decapitate her or at least be whipping her for the next 20 years.
I would get rid of the unnecessary aspect and replace it other characters that would make more sense, like:
A english contract manager, because the mercenary company has no permanent friends but permanent bank interests. Or even better: the mercs need a Space Jew !
One russian mechanic, because they make look MacGyver like a retard: fuck the pencil and the rubberband and get me a blowtorch and a hammer. But on the other hand the chink in armor is quite good placed in the space sweat shop.
Ok i agree the thai massages are a good thing so let us keep her asian ass on board. Hopefully this is not a thai she-male. In Hamburg St. Pauli there was beside the Biker Hard Rock pub, the Heavy Metal bar and the Gothic-EBM disco a thai karaoke shake and fuck this thai she-male boys are creepy and dangerous.
And instead of hijab worm we need a real ship mechanic and scoots are not that good for the task. We need a swiss mechanic, because then the ships would run like a swiss clock. Don't get me with the shit that we need a PhD in Spaceship design. PhD are mostly theoretical people and while they think if they can solve the problem, the mechanic has already done the shit.

Btw. I think that this game is better than SH:HK. And Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation are many indian and asians and the whites are more concentrated towards Sol in Terras proximity and in the most mercantile and industrious parts of the states. So yes no wonder that Free Worlds League and the socialist utopia of Capellan Confederation are the weakest of the five successor states. And their periphery is even worse with even less white people.
If you want more white people then you have to play a merc company that starts in the other three successor states and not in the worst of the outskirts of the Innersphere.

ffs, they always ruin games with this cult brainwash you to love niggers/tannies shit.

I would be perfectly happy if there were no characters and you just create randomly generated npcs like XCOM, but noooooo. Gotta hamfist some propaganda in there.

Not enough that I pay you money, I need to fork over my braincells too? Nope. I'm out.

I probably DO suck at the game. But my complaint here was about the uneven difficulty; a half-skull mission that was vastly harder than all other half-skill missions AND way tougher than the 1.5 skull story mission.

I think they give the vehicles in convoy missions extra armor, so they were taking 2-3 salvos instead of one or a stomp. Or just bad luck I guess.

The main quest vehicles do have more armor. And I would say other low skull missions are just too easy. This one should be baseline and go up from here.

Let me be here a bit autistic:
Niggers are US afro american people, that are at the lowest social hierarchy, due to lack of education and/or a ghetto culture or were in slavery. Negros (meaning: blacks) is a word used in latin america and caribbean (Dutch: Fort Nassau and here Planet Nassau) for colored people of all kinds of graduation with the lowest being the new imported slaves from africa. Randomly genereated is also not a solution, because you can make a generation function that spits out 99% of the time non whites. I prefer that it sticks to lore of the Battletech universe and to be honest they somehow did it.
Only because there were mostly black and white drawings made by pencilers and inkers in the Battletech books that does not mean that it was only white people that were in space. But it was explicte stated which nationality (therefore race) were living on which planet. Whites dominate other regions of space than the area where the campaign takes place (New Colony region and Magistracy of Canopus, below Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation).
I'm against the anti-white propaganda, because it is racism in with reversed ethnicities and i neither love and neither hate blacks and trannies. But soon or later i will hate them, due to my adverse reaction to propaganda mechanism. I like the US american black music as in Blues, Jazz (created by both blacks and whites) and its influencess in Rock. But i utterly hate Rap, because it is the most degenerate form of music with the most degenerate messages, therefore you can state that it is Nigger music. Trannies on the other hand are just mentally sick people, that should be rather kept under the carpet instead of being put upon a pedestal. But none of this kind people deserve a special group treatment and/or privileges.
My previous post was just an summeration of jokes (most of them build on stereotypes that are sometimes true and are even in this game) in every sentence, while pointing out that HBS made a joke on them self with their diversity shit, because of this stereotypes.
While at the same time i wish to point out that it is stupid to mainly discuss and to be angry with the SJW propaganda, because:
Every medal has two sides and they had no understanding that by pushing their agenda they have confirmed the bad stereotypes, like the financially incapable Nassau Negro Darius Oliveira, the constantly working Sweatshop Yang Virtanen and the asian chick Navigator Sumire Meyer. This characters are for no reason in the game, besides unnecessary shit talk and SJW propaganda. I wish that they would provide something useful or whatever, but they are just annoying. The worst character is the hijab worm: the hardest SWJ push and the most stupid at the same time; as i have given the reasons for this in my previous post.

Let me give a short reply to this autistic wall of shit.
If it all bothers you so much make a white main character, you are in charge anyways. So they are all your bitch. And also they put you in charge at some point willingly, the white guy. They accept your superiority (or you can say that to yourself to sleep better at night) so you can play the game and stop being autistic

Question: Do you have dyslexia? Do you understand what i have written or have you even read it? Or was it to complex and to long for you? Let me take some extracts out of my previous post to show you how wrong your post here was:
"I prefer that it sticks to lore of the Battletech universe and to be honest they somehow did it." (Explanation in context: They used the ethnicities in this region of space.)
"Whites dominate other regions of space than the area where the campaign takes place (New Colony region and Magistracy of Canopus, below Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation)." (Explanation: Whites are a minority in this region. )
"While at the same time i wish to point out that it is stupid to mainly discuss and to be angry with the SJW propaganda, because:" (Explanation: Other aspects of the game are more important than its diversity and propaganda.)
And in a pervious post:
"The asian mechanic is where he belongs: in a sweatshop making things for the white commander." (Explanation: I made a white commander and play with him, while the non-whites are subservient. Btw.: It seems that the ruling House of nobles is white. )

After your reading comprehension failure, i recommend to you: Read at least Dostoevsky to train your abilities to keep track of longer texts and derive meaning out of the context. And the best thing is you can read it probably in russian.

let me get this straight, I'm the leader of a mercenary outfit but I'm not allowed to choose a side in the conflict?

what the hell

1. YES I AGREE IT's OUR ONLY CHANCE TO PAY OFF OUR DEBT.

2. I DON'T CARE WHO PAYS SO LONG AS THEY PAY BUT YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE (PROBABLY) PAYING SO OF COURSE I ACCEPT.

3. I DON'T TRUST YOU BUT WILL WORK FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO WILL PAY OFF OUR DEBT.

Basically

If they were going to force you to take a side, they should have just forced you. Had them buy out and own your debt from the banks and hold it over you.

I just had another such mission, 1.5 skulls. I ran into 3 light and 1 medium mech as their support and 4 vehicles, two heavy armored and armed. I only survived because I abused melee :D
I went into mission with 4 mediums and fairly skilled pilots. Almost lost one pilot, one mech was left barely standing, two other got internal damage as well.
This was by far the hardest mission I had so far lol. But I must say it was lots of fun. Now if someone balanced the game around this difficulty we could have a really good game on our hands.

I have basically stopped buying them at this point, I have about 80 games I legitimately might like in my collection... and perhaps 70 more on my wish list or coming out over next year or so. I can't ever play all these games. Sort of the same with movies and TV shows too

Depressing. I usually buy something when I want to play it right now, no matter sellout or what.
So far the only game I bought I should not - DOS2. It would be better if I buy it now and played, than I bought it then and waited for them patching it.
I used to do that until aboutb 2-3 years ago. I resisted steam until that point. Then I saw just how cheap the games would be if I waited for a sale. So I started buying games only during huge sales, with the idea I would eventually play them and I was saving money.

And it might save me money, but not if I keep buying so many games. So I have drastically cut back on my game buying until I weed out some of these games. Although if something like Battletech or whatever ends up with a 75% off sale and it still looks like a decent game then I will go ahead and add it, but my list of games in that catagory are very limited.

One up and coming game I might buy nearly at release is the Pathfinder game because it looks great and I hope they will be able to keep making sequels for it etc if it turns out good, and I have a good feeling about that game....hope i am right

Right, but calculate how much money you threw out on games you never played.
It is basic rule of common sense - don't buy thing you don't need even if it's cheap.
If you not doing this, you lose not only your money, but manageability of your actions and decisions, which is even worse.

The dialogue choices for everything in this game are:

1. (Strongly Agree)
2. (Less Strongly Agree)
3. (Complain but still Agree)

Bioware would be so proud.

As opposed to Shadowrun where you had at least 3 different choices:

1. Agree -> Ok.
2. Not sure -> They talk you into it.
3. Disagree -> Ok, do it your way-- nevermind, something changed at the last second, leaving you no choice but to agree in the end.

I'm always annoyed at how HBS write supposedly "cold-hearted" mercenaries as just "misunderstood" misfits.
They definitely were pushing it in Dragonfall with Glory. They then overplayed it in Hong Kong where Is0bel had a fall out with another decker because... he was talking shit about her on internet forums?
Meanwhile both of them had no issue killing wage slaves who are just doing their jobs as securities.

Luckily at the end of both campaigns you get to actually dick people over by joining Vauclair or sacrificing them to the Yami God for your own benefits.
We'll have to wait until some codexers play it to the end and see if Battletech offers multiple endings.
Being stuck on the "rightful" side instead of having factions frantically trying to bid you over to change the outcome of the war would be a major turn off.

I love all those "it's just like nucom but with big robots".
Nucom isn't exactly the golden standard of quality and pinnacle of squad based tictacs, unless you're a part of the common denominator.

Right i came here to check on some interesting builds people had or mechs they found but i guess everyone was so triggered by the pronoun option you forgot there is actually a game past character creation.

Right first up for the last 2 days its been running fine with a bit of chuginess now and then but it fixed itself after a bit, today it crashed my Graphics driver first time start up but worked the second fine, so your issues may vary but there are performance issues and some crashes, it doesn't respond sometimes but waiting it out it fixes itself in a couple of seconds.

The campaign can be ignored once the map opens up going max salvage and building mechs to sell is a good enough income stream you can ignore max cash missions if you want.

I am not sure if reinforcements are bugged or simply unclear and mean outer patrols some missions have you kill a lance or a base then it says "watch out for reinforcements" and i'm like "the ones who i blitzed through as i advanced who started in front of me?", so i have no idea what's going on there a bug?

I am on default difficulty i should check what higher ones do because at the moment the AI is fine, it needs to learn to back the fuck up but it uses spotting and LRMS fine its just a bit psychotic in attack attack mentality if one of your mechs falls down every single one of them will hammer you to death as well so that's fun, considering you get free called shots on downed mechs if more than 2 mechs have a turns before you can stand up your dead.

Guts is an amazing skill tree that extra heat threshold is invaluable as are the health boosts, you will get blown the fuck out occasionally on my 3 or 4th mission my MC got death from aboved by a light mech i'd taken both arms off and instant KO as it blew out my cockpit 120 days in hospital i am glad it was me as you can't outright die but your teamates can although Guts has something to do with survival as later one of them got killed but lived on with max wounds, i have heard it is a dice roll somewhere influenced by guts but i can't find it anywhere.

Once you get some better weapons and mechs there is nothing so cathartic as hammering a light mech with 3 LRM 10's or on my current Jaggermech 2 LRM15's and watching it pop in one turn.

Called shots are vital, melee is fun your mech is never useless even with no arms or torso slots if you have a leg and your head and center torso are intact you can always kick or headbutt, the Ai has fun doing this to you, crippling your mechs with some shiity light spider when they have 1 fucking HP left on their centre torso and you spent the last turn desperately hammering it to kill it only to miss the last shot.

Overall its a good game with some performance issues the Ai is decent for the game if a bit hyper aggressive, story so far is eh, but you can fuck off into the wild and do missions on random planets over the map so that's fun i saw a mission for the shogunate guys locked behind max rep with them, combat in engaging enough, make sure you turn off cinematic cameras and turn on UI during enemy turns though. Combat is turn based and initiative based positioning is key it really feels like a battle to strip a mech of armour then hammers its weak points, i found myself memorising what layouts mechs have only for a mission against some other Mercs for them to have custom load outs as well that was fun.

So far i'm using a LRM boat on the back lines in a jaggermech a front line of a hunchback a Wolverine and a Shadow hawk you start with, i want to swap it but i can't find anything inspiring enough to create to swap it out for, oh light mechs are trash like pop like candy and your relying on RNG and initiative to live, some of the missions have you going through like 8 mechs a bunch of turrets and some tanks so it just doesn't feel like they have the staying power to be useful.

Oh for bonus points outer space is hell on heat management 75% or so effectiveness iirc, Guts is the best tree, more Hp and heat management it also gives you an ability to knock an initiative point off an enemy per melee hit, nothing like bullying a mech to dead last in actions behind even an assault mech, gunnery is worth it for multitargetting to peel evasion pips then Tactics for that initiative boost.

Overall i like it once the performance issues get fixed i'd rate it as one of the better games to come out in the last few years.
