That is Katherine Steiner-Davion's last act of revenge against her brother, who died without ever knowing she stole his genes to make a boy. Typical totalitarian sjw shithead gaining "revenge" on someone who doesn't even know or care she exists.

If you want to look at other "fun" stuff, look up Danai Liao-Centrella, and who her father and mother are, and she, err... "relationship" with Caleb Davion.

The most annoying thing about Danai's backstory is the Mary Sue-ish shit, tie in with Kai (also a bit of a Mary Sue himself but, y'know) and the blurb about her S7 career. Caleb is established as being near-Liao tiers of batshit IIRC, him raping someone is a cheap way to establish him as an unhinged fucktard but not even really out of the question. Just fairly groan-worthy rather than outright offensive to any sensibilities about Battletech lore (unlike Kat), and as someone who's never been that big a fan of the FedSuns it amuses me to see Fedrat fanboys get stuck with Caleb and Clan Wolfaboo get stuck with that whole mess. Space Germans and Space Viking Teddy Bears are laughing. Poor FWL never could catch a break, though.

It is when the entire game is filled with the Spanish shit. It is not a "few" characters. Half your fucking hireables have Spanish names. Kevin "Fatboy" Maginn was obsessed with Spanish names, probably because his tranny idol in real life has one.

Just doesn't register to me as being that big a deal, given how prolific Spanish names tend to be here on Earth Terra, there are way more salient things to rip on Dark Age's writing for tbh than last name origins. Like the whole "HPG network gets thoroughly sabotaged despite such a thing being theoretically borderline impossible, and people apparently didn't even care about the possibility of such an occurrence to advance Black Box tech to larger scale despite that being perfectly reasonable even WITHOUT a massive HPG failure - can you spot the obvious shit-writing Deus Ex Machina designed to wipe away the stain of the Blakist Jihad and reset the tech level artificially?" Not that Battletech's writing was ever superlative, but lol.

She had Vlad helping her. On every front.
Even with Vlad support it should be impossible. And I don't see why he'd even want her there. And then I'm not sure why she wouldn't get trialed to death as soon as he died, and how she could get involved in the breeding program, and how she could somehow get Victor's genetics in there too, and how nobody apparently noticed.
Whatever, fuck it, it's Dark Age. They fucked everyone else up, they can fuck the Wolves up too. Wolf's always been a boring clan anyway. Or two clans.
They did a piece on how he met her somewhere and the two of them hit off like animals in heat. Literally. Heck, he even travelled into FedComm to rescue her, threatening another invasion if he is denied. That was batshit insane stuff, but not surprising, as that came in at the end of the FedComm Civil War era and BTech was being taken over by WizKids. And the less said about WizKids, the better.

The real stupid part is how they just upped and turned the Davions batshit insane. I don't recall any of them being crazy. The stand outs had always been Jinjiro and the MadCaps. On the whole, the other ruling houses are pretty sane, just not always competent. And then out of nowhere...

Dark Age was basically designed to destroy all vestiges of CBT. Every last line from the old gang was killed off. Seriously, the 3145 Coordinator of DC is a descendant of Franklin Sakamoto, the bastard child of Theodore. The whole of Theodore's legitimate line was wiped out. And then we have the last surviving heir of the Tetsuhara clan (Katana Tormark) also killed off. The entire line of Davion became raving lunatics and the Steiners were basically all wiped out (so no, space Germans are not laughing; 3145 Lyran Alliance is in very bad shape). 60-70% of the Clans destroyed. FWL destroyed. MadCaps are still Madcaps, except they are now incestuous inbred MadCaps. Falcons gone crazy.

Way to kill the franchise: take out anything that is even remotely linking it to the setting that fans loved. You can call it by any other name, and it would make no difference due to the absence of any links to the past.

The damage WizKids did to the CBT franchise cannot be over-emphasised or exaggerated.

I can accept him liking her and wanting her for himself. It's a hell of a coincidence but it's theoretically possible. It's the stuff that comes later that's stupid. There's no excuse for any Clan warrior to live to a hundred years old, let alone one who the rest of the Clan should hate. And then she actually gets to be influential on top of that, even though she's a freeborn warrior with no outstanding skills? It's just so wrong. Everything is wrong. Fucking Dark Age, man.

In my timeline, Dark Age doesn't exist. The Jihad did, but it wasn't as batshit insane as what WizKids made it out to be.

Then again, in my timeline, Candace Liao didn't give up the throne like a fucking idiot, Romano (eventually) ate laser, and Davion agreed to a Marshall Plan for the CapCon in exchange for formal peace.

As you said, "Fuck Dark Age, man! Fuck Dark Age."

I mean, all the Great Houses are a little off in some way - sociopathy/psychopathy, obvious personality disorders (*cough* KATRINA *cough*), profound stupidity and whatever bug crawled up the Combine's collective ass (probably too much anime rotting their brains). Hanse Davion was a smart son of a bitch but there's a touch of that "I will fuck as many people over as I can and they'll LOVE me for it" to him that makes him the magnificent BASTARD he is/was. And the Clans were always at least a LITTLE bugfuck, with some of them just being WAY better at swinging their dicks around.

As for character killoffs - honestly if it's done in a way that isn't fucking cheap and stupid I don't mind it. Inner Sphere's a brutal place. The problem has always been that whoever the fuck writes the overarching canon for Battletech can't resist making their FAVWIT CHAWACTEWS so goddamn invincible that them dying requires extreme suspension of disbelief and usually involves someone just saying "fuckit they're dead now, end of story". I hated the shit out of most of those Mary Sue motherfuckers (fuck Jeremiah Rose btw), and the characters who aren't always WINNING!!!1! were there to be punching bags for the winners (Waco).

Waco was stupid as hell. If he has been attacking the Dragoons for the last 50 years, as the commander of the Dragoons, I would have made it my mission to end him after the second attack, not wait for him to level my planet before taking action. Truly WTF moment right there.

With the Steiners, I think you mean Katherine, not Katrina. Katrina was fine. Katherine was a Mary Sue who had author fiat behind her. There was no way she'd have become that powerful in the FedSun with her lack of 'mechwarrior experience and most of the FedSun side hating her.

That's kind of my point re: Waco. They said "hey we need a borderline-suicidal dumbass to not-subtly point out how awesome the Dragoons are".

Well, the Dragoons are Clan, which sort of explains why they are that awesome in the first place, although how Clanners adjusted to IS style of warfare so quickly and awesomely is... subject to much speculation... :D

Hold on, are you people saying that there's BattleTech lore after 3052AD?

Fucking preposterous. Stop it.

The Battle of Tukayyid ended in 3052AD - and with it, history came to a sad, whimpering conclusion.

The Clans were a mistake

though to be honest a lot of the lore is stupid/makes no sense - lostech, etc.

It was still at least kind of fun if mildly grimdark for Succession Wars stuff, the Clan invasion just screwed shit sideways lorewise, balancewise, all of it. FedCom civil war had some bright points at least.

Clans were a good idea to introduce a side of conflict which is entirely different and not another house, the same as all other houses.
What was a grave mistake was Clan Wolf, the Mary Sue of clans.

Man we need some sort of mech game with the most bare bones lore possible so it doesnt get in the way and then a true and real merc experience instead of this side quest style shit. Also a game made by competent programmers so it runs properly. And instant planetary transitions also. The time management system this game used was horrific.
