What happens when a video game character is self-aware? Target of Desire follows the stories of Maia and Maria. Maia is a video game character, who is followed by men in suits, everywhere she goes, and she doesn't know why. She fights for survival while trying to solve her mystery and understand her reality. Maria is a cryptic character. The only thing that she reveals about herself is that she "works at the University." She blogs (and is on social media) under the username of "IamNamedMaria", where she speculates about the nature of reality. There are many subtle details in Target of Desire.

Hang on a second.

About a week after Steam announced social changes to make it more like Discord, Discord has announced - launched, even - changes to be more like Steam.

The changes roll out now, apparently, and introduce game launching, news feeds and friend activity so, as on Steam, you can see what your nice mates are up to. Are they playing PUBG like they said they would or are they secretly playing Fortnite instead? It is this year's biggest gaming dilemma, said no one ever.

Discord provided a screenshot of the new Games tab, where you can see featured news items at the top (I'm not sure where they're sourced from), a Quick Launcher bar underneath, and Now Playing and Listening Together areas below. It looks rather nice.

So apparently some Switch hackers managed to figure out a way to upload custom profile pictures that are shown in games, particularly Mario Odyssey.

Note that the Switch got hacked so early because if you just set a Joycon pin to ground it gave you access to essentially the entire console via a developer mode. You can literally hack it by pressing a pin with a paper clip. So now /v/ is having a field day with it, putting their profile pictures to shit like trap porn and that's all shown in Mario Odyssey to other players, profile pictures in the Switch ecosystem are supposed to be stuff that Nintendo made and custom profile pictures are not a thing, unless you manage to hack it. Switch is getting so fucked at the moment, it's both sad and hilarious.
