As for bribes etc in industry. about 7-8 years back i was doing volontary work for small gaming site (now defunct) which was started by my friend and his other friend. Writing reviews etc.

So we asked for review coppies various publishers. Sony didn't have issue, their NDA didn't contain really anything immoral. Cenega didn't have problems, CDPR also didn't.

Then we got answer from EA poland. Basically if we want their review coppies we have to promise we would at minimum score their games 7 out of 10.

We talked later privately with some dudes who run their own gaming sites in poland and it was basically same thing (though few said that Sony wasn't so good for them)

Conclusion i wouldn't trust any review that gets their copies from publishers. Especially small sites that can't afford buying stuff on their own constantly.

Which is why the review system used by Steam is good, and that Epic store scam will only hurt games. Not that anything releasing on Epic is worth having, anyway.

I think it's related to how many games you have refunded in a short time frame. If it's 10 games in a single week instead of 10 games in a month, that is enough for them to send that, I guess.

I have a similar story to share, except the "If you want this, you need to do this"-part came from the head honcho running the site, the one who had all the contacts with distributors and publishers.

This was way back in 2000-2001 and (fortunately) no trace of the gaming site can be found anymore.

Games media is inherently compromised, never been able to trust reviews really. Unlike things that happen on the street, all the news in the gaming industry is in the hands of the game companies. Without access to this news, or getting last place access to news (which might as well be the same thing because people will go to who gets hit first), you don't get hits, and without hits you don't get dolla dolla bills ya'll
