Steam Discovery Algorithm Now Recommending Titles Most Likely To Become Epic Games Store Exclusives

Steam users are reporting that the proprietary storefront algorithm which governs the site has now begun recommending titles it believes are likely to soon disappear and reappear on the Epic Games Store.

Dozens of screenshots have surfaced on places like Reddit, with users claiming that the algorithm has earmarked major AAA titles “likely to be in negotiation for an exclusivity agreement”.

One user claimed that their “Discovery Queue” had been replaced by something called a “Betrayal Queue”, full of surprisingly popular titles.

“It’s not really an issue as the Discovery Queue was already recommending me absolutely unrelated stuff,” commented one Redditor. “So overall it’s probably a net gain.”

The Valve Software PR algorithm put out a brief statement earlier this morning saying that the company is “very strongly considering” hiring a real person to fix the issue.

“If this continues much longer, the algorithm which wrote the storefront algorithm may need to be temporarily suspended,” Valve claimed.

“We urge all developers to remain calm at this troubling time and think about how 70% is the biggest possible number there is. There are no numbers larger than 70%.”

Wow, the Reich truly never did end if that is the kind of horror they unleash on their citizens. Some poor guy is going to have to play Fallout 76 when all he wanted to do was get a Playstation controller.

Remember when someone was HOT SHIT on the tube when they got a Machinima contract? Then Google, not wanting to lose the sweet ad profit to middlemen, simply made it easier for anyone to monetize videos

I'm really surprised Machinima still existed in any formal capacity.

No offense, but with that avatar your title should be 'Eradicated', not 'Educated'.
Despite my dislike for Matt from Game Theory, his video of sponsors like Machinima was enlightening and very interesting. As well as that one company that managed to convince google to buy their useless company for 600 million dollars. A very scummy business if all he said was true.

Ubisoft issues apology over The Division 2 'government shutdown' email
'We apologise for this error and the offensive subject line of the e-mail'

Ubisoft has moved to apologise for an email promoting the upcoming private beta for Tom Clancy's The Division 2, which joked about the US government shutdown.

People who are subscribed to the publisher's newsletter received the email yesterday (via ResetEra), which contained the following header: 'Come see what a real government shutdown looks like in the private beta.'

The Division 2 doesn't shy away from political nods. The game takes place in Washington D.C. in wake of a devastating pandemic that has crippled the nation, and also includes a fictional US president as one of its characters. In addition, the White House is featured in the game too, acting as your primary base of operations throughout.

Obviously, the email didn't exactly go down well with folk considering what's been happening across the pond. The most recent government shutdown was the longest in US history, and resulted in thousands of federal employees failing to receive paychecks over the Christmas period. Some are receiving back pay, although it's understandably a very sensitive topic.

'A marketing email promoting The Division 2 was sent in error today. This was a grave breakdown in process and we apologise for this error and the offensive subject line of the email,' said Ubisoft.

'We recognise the very real impact of the United States government shut down on thousands of people and did not intend to make light of the situation.'

The Division 2 is due out on March 15 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
