Can't say I am pro-acquisitions as they are being done currently, but it feels like Microsoft forced their hand. If I was a higher up at Sony, I'd try to buy Kadokawa, Capcom, and Square Enix.

Microsoft isn’t forcing their hand, it ain’t like Microsoft is buying up studios to keep them all to themselves. Not only are they putting games on Sony’s systems, they’d love to have Xbox Game Pass on PlayStation as well. Microsoft wants Xbox Game Pass on everything, and in the future Microsoft’s video game hardware will probably just be an extension of their Surface stuff.

Sony buying Kadokawa probably has less to do with FromSoftware, although FromSoftware would be a nice get for them in this whole deal, and more to do with Kadokawa Corporation as a whole.

For the last few years Sony has been buying up a number of different anime companies, and buying Kadokawa would give them even more control of that as well as strengthen other aspects of Sony.
