How did this company become so degenerate?
Original devs add romance to BG2 and KotoR. It's not terrible at that point yet.
But then new people join who specifically liked the romance.
Then the old people leave and now the company is only made up of the new people who don't understand the original games beyond "THEY HAD ROMANCE!!"

Now the company is only a shadow of its former self, its developers clueless youths who have no connection to the games of the company's past.
I would be willing to bet you 100€ that 90% of modern Bioware's employees haven't played a Bioware game older than the first Dragon Age and Mass Effect. They probably dismiss the Baldur's Gate games as "some clunky old shit" no longer worth playing.
