Ocarina of Time is my first Zelda game and I am really enjoying it but there are certain things that I don't think have aged well like the lack of a jump button and proper camera controls. Other than that, everything in the game is fine, the combat is serviceable and can be very fun. I'm surprised by all the secrets hidden in the game, some of them are things I wouldn't have thought about.

I just want to know what others think is the best game in the series and whether decline has hit this series hard. Breath of the Wild is looking really promising, I might have to buy a Wii U for it.

No A Link to the Past pretty much makes your poll dead on arrival.

But, the answer is there is no 'best Zelda' in the same way there is no best Final Fantasy. The best experiences are split up between too many iterations of the series for there to be a decisive winner.

But, if forced to pick, the most 'special' one that stands apart from the rest in a good way is Majora's Mask.

The other contenders for 'best' would be:

Zelda Classic
A Link to the Past (Oracles games and A Link between worlds are out of the running because they are ALttP clones that don't have any decisive improvements or lapses)

Below that you would have:

Ocarina of Time
Wind Waker

And below that you would have:

Twilight Princess
Zelda II

And below that you would have:

Skyward Sword

Don't tell me people are really considering Zelda as a rpg now? Shouldn't this be in general gaming? The only rpg Zelda I know of is the second one for the NES. The platformer type one kind of like the Rambo game for the NES.

Is there really no standards anymore? WHy even have subforums? Who is in charge of this shit?

A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are similar in quality and are among the best in the Action / Adventure genre, not just Zelda games. Epona was also a more endearing companion than 99% of the preening shitheads you get in most RPGs.

Link's Awakening. The best of the overhead view Zelda's, which makes it the best Zelda. Possibly the best fantasy action adventure game too.

Tonally I prefer the original LoZ to anything that came after. A lone hero in a dead world is how I interpreted it as a kid. Mysterious, and had appropriately gloomy dungeons.

If everything else in Zelda 2 was as good as the combat, it would easily be near the top if not THE top. World map was disappointing and side scrolling environments were bland as fuck.

Wind Waker wasn't bad, but now everyone is hopping on the kounter kulture bandwagon and ranking it among the best, so they can act like they always loved it and knew better than everyone else at the time. I can barely remember a single dungeon in the game. The art style: Link and co. looked like dog shit, environments and effects were amazing.

Twilight Princess. The WW hate has been transferred to this game by internet contrarians. Almost as good as OoT, which is still the best 3D Zelda. So many good or awesome moments. My personal favorite of the 3D games, but OoT was tighter and a better designed whole. Not an ounce of fat can I remember on that game.

Well, as far as 3D games went. I still prefer the snappier 2D games.

Its not that serious Roqua. All Japanese stuff goes under this sub-forum, if a mod thinks other wise they can move it.

Can a Crooked Bee , JarlFrank, Whisky, SuicideBunny change Link's awakening to A link to the past?

It is called Jrpg right? Are you saying that nothing means anything anymore so anything goes? Then why do these fucking pricks keep moving all my posts and threads all over the place?

Probably because they find it entertaining to fuck with you, like a lot of people on these forums. Just don't give them a reason to.

There's a thread for a pornographic girlfriend simulator in the JRPG sub-forum and a discussion about Zelda sets you off? Sure, it may not be an RPG, but at least you use both fucking hands to play it.

Link's Awakening should have its own entry in the poll. It should be separated from the other handhelds.

Also, why did I vote Zelda 1? It didn't just invent Action RPGs. Sandbox games like GTAV can trace its roots back to Zelda. Zelda even let you "break bad" by stabbing the Old Man or graverobbing! You could even beat the game skipping the first two swords, only getting the last sword!

It didn't invent ARPGs. You had Dragon Slayer and Hydlide in 1984. LoZ was directly influenced by these games. Open world games also predate LoZ.

With Majora's Mask as a close second what with the amazing atmosphere. Seldom has such a thouroughly bleak world been presented so garishly.

No A Link to the Past? How retarded kann people actually bee? Die!
So I vote Link's Awakening, because 3d Zeldas are gay and Zelda 1 is cryptic mess.

OP is a giant faq. What is the best Fallout? 3 or 4?
Also Zelda 2 is a hardcore crpg game rolling game and shouldn't beer in this list.

So now Zelda is an rpg and you want to take away my whole reason for being?

A Link to the Past by far, everything about that game was perfect. It still had very good and plenty of exploration, didn't hold your hand all the time, had the best music and perfect pacing.

I really fucking loved a lot of them (that's why it's probably my favourite game series), from Link's Awakening to the two Oracles, from Ocarina of Time to The Wind Waker. I even liked the DS ones (even if there are few people who did). Probably my favourite ones are Majora's Mask and A Link to the past, though.

Twilight Princess was a conservative Zelda that was developed for a soft landing at the end of the under performing GameCube's life, when it wasn't clear the Wii was going to be as huge of a success as it ultimately became. It's pretty much on the level of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade vs. The Lost ark. You can point out some ways in which it was technically superior, in terms of form, but in terms of raw creative spiritedness it was underwhelming.

This came through in say the difference between the Twilight Realm and the Dark World from aLttP. Twilight Realm was basically streamlined corridors with combat, with little true exploration, while the Dark World changed the entire way you thought about puzzles and the environment of Hyrule.

Twilight Princess was also when Nintendo started writing checks they couldn't cash with escalated dramatic storytelling at the expense of atmosphere and tone when Nintendo sucks balls at dramatic storytelling.
