where do you think that marketing money goes to? it's like half the cost of development usually
Not to journalists, most of them will automatically side with publishers in every situation because they don't want to be blacklisted and stop receiving free stuff. They don't need to be bribed.
Most marketing goes to paid ads, most of which you will never know exist if you don't watch TV or use an adblock, bot/shill farms to keep up the narrative that the game is excellent, expensive cgi trailers which Veilguard doesn't have, and also money laundering.

Journos and shills YouTubers/streamers don't need to be paid, they will happily sing anyone's praises because they have an overwhelming economic incentive to do so because most of them make their money through whatever game they are shilling.

what would be different about dragon age veilguard if baldur's gate didn't get so popular?
i'm pretty certain they had to make a bunch of changes the moment BG3 got that GOTY.
Swen is not a woke person at heart, but he is a clever businessman who skillfully plays the gamers. Some will get Shadowheart in a sexy bikini, others a transvestite running a circus, with all the accents distributed in a way that represents the market.

Bioware chases trends and tries to convince itself that they create them. Gaider, after all, a former employee, still does this in his terror, retroactively changing the past. They don't understand how much zippertits can irritate players because they believe that any criticism comes from an irrelevant minority. If they weren't idiots, they would enlarge their models' butts and boobs while they still can. But no, they know better.

Besides, the BG series has never had a bad game, even if we include the weird ones from Black Isle. Dragon Age has a lot of bad games. Dragon Age was supposed to replace Baldur's Gate, but the third part is the return of the king, and Veilguard only silly impostor.

They already had one. It was the first one that everyone hated.

Imagine dumping millions into a trailer just to score a self goal.

It's only gonna impact it in terms of the wokeness let's get real. BG3's popularity hinges on things that have zero to do with the woke shit but the usual suspects are so obsessed in trying to prove that wokeness can sell that they misinterpreted WHY the game was so successful to begin with and they gonna found out how mistaken they were when this Dragon Age shit flops.
Weirdly enough, the "gay bear sex" trailer increased the pre-orders for BG3 after the reveal.

Makes me think that there a TON of degenerate freaks out there...

There's a lot of deviancy out there, true, but you also have to take into account media is/can potentially be broadcasted to the entire world. That's quite the long reach, so it's natural for these things to happen, especially when nobody can find out what media you consume. This is a good thing.

Yeah it's likely the bear shit just increased the game's visibility. People talked about it which led to greater exposure for the game.

I doubt most people really bought the game BECAUSE of the gay bear shit. Normies aren't actively interested in that stuff they just don't care. Their bread and circuses is all that matters to them.

1. A possibility of very horny trailers.
2. "Top 10 reasons why you should NOT compare Veilguard to BG3" articles.

That's about it.

Most people took it as a dirty joke, and humour sells.

Also I think I've covered it in some other thread once. It won't because they're too deep into the dev cycle to change any fundamental thing about it. Take combat as an example, they would have to rework even such basic things as controls and UI to change it. Even slight change like giving direct control over party members in some way would be too much.
I simply wonder if there are some devs who were there when Origins was made and had to sit through meetings where they were told they have to make the games more action like because that's what sells and now the marketers try to make people not compare that to a turn based game because they fear it'll be inadequate in comparison

i'm certain that BG3 had an impact, if not, then there wouldn't be all of that preventive cope in the media, i'm just wondering on the specifics
You're assuming that devs and journalists are on the same team.
Protip: Journalists live in a parallel reality that has nothing to do with actual gamers, videogames, or devs.
where do you think that marketing money goes to? it's like half the cost of development usually

Veilguard is basically the worst marketed AAA game ever, the whole way in which information on the game is released suggests EA don't want people to buy the game. Compare this to Metaphor Re fantazio which looked like a dead game but interest in it started growing after the demo of the game was released. What exactly is EA doing to get people to buy Veilguard?

DA4 has been in development for many years, by the time BG3 came out the game probably was quite close to or at the post production stage. Bioware probably couldn't make much changes even if they want to.
DA4 has gone through at least 3 revisions that I can think of (not unlike Inquisition, mind you) and the actual work on the game we're going to receive started recently. So you can bet BG3 had a lot of impact. Plus it wouldn't be the first time Bioware changes priorities during a game's development, it happened already with Neverwinter Nights, which went from IE style rpg to full 3d, DM-enabled multiplayer "pseudo mmo" (?) in like one or two years.

dragon age 4 has an immense internet presence right now (for and against), I even saw ads for it on my fire tv, and I think the timing is very good with no competition right now but less than 2 months from christmas (as well as being multi-platform). before BG3 came the guy putting in my washer talked to me about BG3, hype or awareness is still important even if the economy is less retail and advertisement heavy now. I doubt this will be the bomb that finally sinks bioware, everything besides the actual game seems on point. There is 0 competition right now they only have to front load 15-20 hours of gameplay
