I don't think anyone could make forty good games on any budget. But Fargo could probably make better ones than Bioshock Infinite.

How is the game length-wise? Whats our investment-to-playtime ratio nowadays, 20 million dollars per hour? 50 million per hour?

Fair enough, it's hard to make forty good anything. By all accounts Bioshock Infinite is about 8-12 hours. As noted I'm sure a good $50 million of that is marketing.

For comparison sake a third of the teams in the National Hockey League are valued at $200 million or less.

Haha holy shit, $200,000,000 for a video game. We live in a fucking bizarre world. How in the hell did they spend that much money on the game? Did they have superbowl ads or something?

My bet would be 10-30 millionz on the game and 190-170 millionz on marketing and important devs such as "strategic consultant" or some BS like that. The sad thing is that we will not see this money spend on graphix because consoles.

$ 200 million eh, probably the end of Irrational Games as they are. I just hope Levine starts anew, get out of AAA industry, and tries to get back to his roots.

What roots would those be? Lol if you think he's capable of putting out another System Shock.

Yeah, too many people give Levine all the credit for System Shock 2. They forget that Looking Glass handled the bulk of that game's development, Irrational only had a small handful of people at the time.

Anyway, I'm staying far away from this train wreck, it has development hell written all over it. Best to just sit back and watch the drama unfold. Should be amusing.

Uh, I'm pretty sure SS2 is the result of Irrational Games, LGS handled the production side of it, not the design side.

Metro, not another SS2, but something better than BioShock, if he does something PC exclusive.

He's been given $200M to do whatever and he's created Bioshock Infinite. What makes you think that after shrugging off the corporate oversight he would make something to surpass in quality even such a title as Bioshock 1? He does not have it in himself anymore, if indeed he ever did.

I imagine a lot of the $ 200 million is due to the game being in the proverbial development hell (which is also why I don't think Infinite can quite be treated as his current best). But still incredibly expensive, no doubt. I don't know about Infinite, but BioShock, his previous game, had a good game world, and for an "FPS with options", it was actually a good game. That's why I don't think he's completely lost it.

Sans the need to develop for consoles, and all the design constraints that a large target audience brings, I don't think too far fetched to think he can make something good. Of course he'd need a good team, and as I understand a lot of key people left Irrational during the development of Infinite.

Where the fuck they wasted so much money, on Elizabeth boob simulation? Is the mainstream gaming industry becoming a scheme to milk clueless investors? What crazy investor think that is a good idea to waste 200 million dollars on a popamole shooter with 8hs of gameplay? If this thing was a open world game, you could explain the budget.

The game's been in AAA development for 6 years. Also, they apparently tried to make multiplayer work, but finally scrapped it.

Bought Bioshock for $40, already sold Xcom EU for $10, also comes with 7 genuine hats which I should be able to sell once they become tradeable for another $10 at least quite easily.

So at the moment I preordered for a guaranteed $30 and possible $20. And yet... I still feel so dirty.
