I find no pleasure in playing shitty games just to tell people I told them so. *shrug*
As Brother None pointed out, worst case scenario Shadowrun Returns style depth in combat. I am inclined to be more optimistic about their storytelling capabilities.
Also I am :bounce: about a TB RPG in the TDE setting, from the folks at Daedlic.

From what I have seen in the (WIP) trailers is that they should definitely speed up the animations and do something about their terrible UI and have a skill bar of some sort. If anyone has access to their beta, or can intelligently give them this feedback assuming it is not too late to act on. HiddenX can you help in this regard?

I gotta say I'm pretty excited about this title. I love DSA as y'all hopefully well know, and this one is hitting a lot of right notes that even the Drakensangs missed, and Drakensang (especially TRoT) were solid, enjoyable titles. At the very least this looks like it could be a Shadowrun Returns-quality DSA game. And I'd enjoy the heck out of that.
Wait, TRoT is good? Been putting it on hold because it started so slow and uninteresting.

It's good by codex standards. I enjoyed it up until the point where you have to fight a trillion guards in the fortress if you go the violent route and holy shit no way I was doing that with Drakensang's shitty combat.

But the amazons are hot.

what fortress? the one you get by the river? yeah i quit after getting to the entrance of the main keep too, must be something bout that place.

And unless the game lets you interact with the amazon bazzongas/hooters/headlights thats not really an interesting piece of info :troll:

Yeah that one. You get to pick either the dwarf's or the thief's course of action.

But they look so nice with the lighting effects. :M

The UI is still a prototype. They said they'll enhance it until release. Don't know about the animation speed.

You can ask questions in their project forum or the Blackguards forum.

Yeah, TRoT is a bit of a hidden gem. The combat is kinda ass but the character system is cool with fun different classes, the story is nice and un-epic and not about the PC being THE CHOSEN ONE, which is a relief, and there's some fun little side-quests to find. It's not great or anything, but in the long decline it kinda stood out as an improvement over the rest.

I agree, the character creation/leveling system was what i liked the most about the game.
The combat... ive suffered worse.
The story is kinda slow, at least till where i was, and the thing that bothered me... there were no stakes, no motivations. And i dont mean in the "chosen one" kind of way, i was just wondering myself "why am i even here? who are these people? why am i helping them? they seem like a fun bunch, but i really dont care about their problems", also i remember there was a crazy old man at a swamp giving some foreshadowing about something that didnt seem very interesting, as there was no mention of gold, fame, or booty so my character didnt care.
This is something ive noticed in a lot of rpgs lately, they dont care about giving you a motivation, "its a quest, go get it. and do it, there must be a reason you wrote it" and i keep asking myself "why? why am i risking my life for this cunt? for some trinkey he may or may not have that i may or may not find useful". This was subverted on shadowrun, which was what got me hooked from beginning to end, i had an excuse for any time of character i cared to play:
- Friendship
- Money
- Loyalty
- Doing the right thing
- Just another mission

And yes, im a character development fag :M and this is why i fucking loved NV.

tl;dr i shouldnt have to do shitty quests

The Drakensang games are basically a poor man's Dragon Age: Origin's with mildly better character customization.

I'm hoping this one will be way, way better, that's for sure.

Might be because I used to play RoA in PnP, but I didn't have much issues with motivation for my character.
The first chapter is still a kind of tutorial, with the char finishing his training in Nadoret, after that you are trying to find a) the origin of the pirates that attacked you in the introduction and b) the crown of the fucking emperor which Ardo managed to lose. Since esp. the crown is important for the safety and well-being of your land, as a more-or-less loyal subject you are of course motivated to retrieve it...
In that respect it's a classical RoA approach - your chars are supposed to be heroes and do heroic deeds. I think the older editions didn't even consider that the heroes might be more than the good guys willing to help.

Hah, remember the first "sample" adventure in the 2nd edition corebook (I think it was 2nd)? Basically your only given motivation is a woman runs up to you on the street crying for help, and then you dive into a cellar to fight bad guys!

Good old pre-return DSA. Blackguards will probably be more grimdark than that/Drakensang, anyway.

What's funny though is that for all its lightheartedness, Drakensang had a dragon cult cutting out people's hearts.

Wonder if they've made up a backstory to explain the presence of barrels in every map. Maybe they're venerated like cows in India and can't be moved once someone places them somewhere.

Now I remember the crapload of boxed in early FPS games.

The new screens look a lot better though, most battle maps look plausible there.
They all have this 70s french softporn look, though, thanks to the blur and bloom applied to it.

Err, bloom wasn't even technologically possible in the 70s.
