But is a Early Access release? I thought it would be the full first part, 100% done.... or are they gonna keep it on Early Access until the second part is released?

It feels like they dragged it out and threw it together as fast as they could so they could lay down this abortion as an early-access incomplete "game" and say it's released and recoup some sales on it. I don't see how anyone can cheer or applaud this unless they have some blinding rose-colored glasses on.

Early access in this case means half-complete. Part 1 is a finished game, though they will of course fix any bugs people come across.

Releasing and adventure game in early access seems pretty pointless, who the fuck would want to pay to report bugs and broken stuff?

    Oh wait...

I'll wait a day of EA before deciding if I will play. If it's reported buggy as hell, I won't. If not, then there probably won't be a huge difference between EA and retail.

Silly guys. In Broken Age's case, early access means that the first part of the game will be playable, as a finished, polished game. Like if it was episodic.

    :rpgcodex:
    Isn't this an oximoron?

Every backer will get the first part of the game, and in the same time, it will be available on EA until the 2nd part is finished.

Early access would be a lot better than episodic, because at the end of the day people can buy the full game, as opposed to a game that artificially stops halfway through and asks you to load part 2.

In this case eary access and episodic is the same thing. You can play Act 1, but the game will stop after that.

Not really. The early access is a 'beta', the official release is coming two weeks later.

I dunno, maybe I'm just butthurt because I don't like how the game turned out. I'm a longtime fan of the adventure games and the Lucas Arts games in particular, and this looks nothing like them. It's just generic adventure game #19614, and those are released all the time. This game really isn't anything special.

It's funny how the indie guys doing games like Quest For Infamy and Heroine's Quest are putting out way better games than any of the old guys coming back to kickstarter seem to be doing.

I'm no fan at all of the episodic format, and maybe it actually works for this game, but from what I know of the premise, it would work a lot better as one long game.

Sure, but we got over this 2 years ago.

Really? Please list those adventure games? I must have missed them.

It is not an episodic format as Telltale doing it. Double Fine needs some extra money, that why they finished the first part of the game, and they will fund the final work on the 2nd part from the money they get.

No. Backers will get the game first. 2 weeks later it goes to early access so anyone can buy it.

Garriot, Molyneux, Spector, Levine. Kickstarter is just bringing the rest of the developers with degenerative mental conditions out of the woodwork, instead of working unassumingly in some sub-branch of Blizzard or miscarrying a Command & Conquer game.

Unfortunately it's true but they are, at least, useful to bring attention to kickstarter and some money end on Quest for Infamy, Mage initiation and other projects that would never be made or end on vapourware status. If it wasn't for kickstarter, Blackguards and Might and Magic X would never be made as their publisher wouldn't be interested into financing them. Some good we got out of this, at least.

I'm just glad we've had an opportunity to make the kind of game we wanted to make, and that we had some money to make it. Way less than the big guys get, but enough to get us making a game. Let me tell you - about two years out since we decided to make our demo and put together our resources to eventually do a Kickstarter - I'm just glad we got to be part of the whole affair. When we release our game later this year, I hope it entertains some people for a few hours. It's been one hell of a ride, that is for sure.

Those are all Sierra style adventures. Maybe you just like Sierra style more than Lucas Arts at this point?
