Obsidian is more important than HBS here though.

PoE is not a failure by any means, but the fact it's less successful than D:OS speaks volumes.

If PoE had turn-based combat though...

Even if they included turn based combat (like the codex so cruelly teased at with their april 1st joke) it would probably get the same critique here as it does now. The battlelines have long been drawn and the pitchfork wielding masses have formed their opinion, collected by all the sages who meticulously studied these designers for years. Chris is a sexy beast while Josh is the austere face of cold equilibrium, ruling balance over fun.

edit: if we'd visualise them both as women it'd kinda look like this comparison:
chrisvsjosh.jpg

but will Chris ruin his reputation working for Larian and/or will Josh redeem himself with his next Obsidian game? Find out next season, on RPGC!

Why is Sawyer Lady Justice and Avellone "generic hot woman #387925"? Are you trying to say something here?

And Pope Amole II has destroyed every argument Sensuki ever made, it's just that people buried their head in the sand and went LALALALALA when he did it.

Rofl? I remember him making up some stats out of thin air and I disagreed with him over his fake numbers, but actually agreed with most of his conclusions about mechanics because I made similar ones 6-9 months before that in the beta lel

His schtick is "gaem is good because i can fap over the 'complexity' and theorycraft builds"

Where was this exchange?

Yeah, exactly. I think he's just being hyperbolic.

I remember arguing over shit like him saying this gives 33% more of this and this makes you 50% more effective at this and I went you're full of shit regarding those actual numbers, and disputed them and he cracked the shits. The general jist of what he was saying was true, but the raw numbers were made up/incorrect tbh.

It has been said a million fucking times why people like this game

Yes and all the reasons have been blatantly shot down :p Sensuki has thoroughly deconstructed why the mechanics are shit and we've been discussing why the writing is awful and nonsensical for a while now. Continuing this discussion really is beating a dead horse and very off-topic.

On-topic: So, MCA wants to do his own pet project, that's gonna be fun to watch and potentially awesome.

PoE is mediocre and ultimately forgettable. For most that's worse than being shit.

If you really wanted to know, it starts here and goes on for a few pages: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...ead-pre-expansion.98003/page-192#post-3926422

It was actually kind of a good discussion if you got past the name calling and internet slap fight stuff :M

PoE is...ultimately forgettable.

If only that were true. :smug:

PoE bitching on here has more to do with many on the board reacting to the game like their wife cheated on them than anything to do specifically with the game.

It's a butthurt sense of betrayal that Obsidian of all developers made such a bland game and they're constantly chewing the scenery over their beloved ones dropping the ball when they were meant deliver the perfect RPG that would save the genre (and possibly gaming as a whole).

It's the worst kind of hype-backlash and fanboyism that prevents this forgettable game from being forgotten.

It doesn't change the valid points the likes of Sensuki make about the game, it's just that they keep doing it like that ex-husband ranting to everyone over how much of a bitch his wife was to him and how he can see everything wrong about her looking back on the relationship.

Pretty sure nobody ever read Pope Amole vs Sensuki: Battle of the spergs
I did, it consisted on pope being an ignorant twat and the usual retards taking his word for it. Sensuki pressed him with numbers, i explained why all the crap he said was bullshit because in the end you were wasting time and losing more hp by not maximizing damage. Trying to be creative was punished.

Its a failure as an rpg, i dont give a shit how much it sells, or id be praising bethesda for making the best rpg ever, several times in a row.

We are constantly going in circles about this, nobody has shown exactly why PoE is good as a game, the only argument boils down to "well, I liked it" which is inane. The only (relatively) good part is Durance and GM, and with MCA gone we won't even have that. I'd even say that the art, while competently executed, was generic as fuck, but at least it was competent.
It is better than most shit we have been given for last 10 years or more. It is just not as good as people expected.

Yes, let's forget past mistakes the moment they happen. That's why this industry isn't going anywhere.
