Christpher Tin is a cool guy, writes melodic and memorable music. I like how the new theme sounds. Better than any music from any RPG of the last 10 years, that's for sure.

I don't know what they're trying to achieve with this AI battle. From what I've seen in marb's LP the AI is still embarrassingly bad.

A while back there was an AI battle with most (all?) civs run on reddit which was very popular. It's just to build hype.

It's such a tiny download at ~4GB that it's probably faster to download it at release rather than wait for that piece of shit Steam decryption to crunch through.

Depending on your bandwidth and CPU, quite possibly.

Love the part with the hussar just stopping mid battle to look around and not getting shot.

Will this game be more optimized than CiV, which was kind of a resource hog?

Given the graphics haven't had a huge jump I imagine it'll be largely CPU bound again. 1UPT is more complicated to AI than doom stacks. System requirements are pretty low though:

  • Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7x64 / Windows 8.1x64 / Windows 10x64
    • Processor: Intel Core i3 2.5 Ghz or AMD Phenom II 2.6 Ghz or greater
    • Memory: 4 GB RAM
    • Graphics: 1 GB & AMD 5570 or nVidia 450
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 12 GB available space
    1. Recommended:
    2. OS: Windows 7x64 / Windows 8.1x64 / Windows 10x64
    3. Processor: Fourth Generation Intel Core i5 2.5 Ghz or AMD FX8350 4.0 Ghz or greater
    4. Memory: 8 GB RAM
    5. Graphics: 2GB & AMD 7970 or nVidia 770 or greater
    6. DirectX: Version 11
    7. Storage: 12 GB available space

To be fair, Civ4 was actually super shit and broken at release and only became great after two expansions. I don't think there's really been a solid Civ release in awhile except for maybe the Colonization redux.

I disagree completely. I mean obviously Civ 4 became better with expansions, but I really don't think they improved massively on the game itself. At release it was buggy and suffered a little from having higher system requirements than what was advertised, but otherwise was light years ahead of Civ 5 at release.

I bought Civ 4 almost at day 1, and IMHO even then it was a far deeper and more satisfying experience than Civ 3 with all expansions, albeit certainly not without its own issues.

Well, I don't know what to say other than I don't know what fucking Civ4 you were playing

Either way, hopefully Civ6 breaks the trend.

Civ 4 was great at launch. You're thinking of 5. That one had massive content cuts to be added later via DLC. Especially the tech tree and late game units.

For those who have been following this more closely, did they actually redesign the game to play quickly with fewer, more important, decisions? Or did they lose their nerve and remake Civ IV/V again?

Wow they actually made the ai be dumber then civ v.
The ai is now designed to loose on purpose,it avoids victory conditions and thanks to the forced civilian weight system it will never build a large enough army to ever threaten a human player.
And the causal idiots are defending this because they think you need skynet to build a good ai instead of admitting they want to play to watch pretty units move around.
Hell why do these fans even play strategy games?
edt: Wow they are actually proud that the ai is willing to trade a city and strategic resource for 3 great works, wtf.

I dunno, even the slobknobbers on the Civ forums are saying the AI looks like dogshit and those are usually the first folks to be apologists.
