I bought that one on sale ages ago, but man, is that game boring as fuck.
The only good thing about Beyond Earth was the SPACE POPE mod

Sukrit Tan already releasing a UI fix mod for Civ7. I won't even have to play vanilla for 1 minute.
Gedemon is making a Real World map too, he made YnAMP for Civ6.
Not sure at what time unlocks, probably will play it tomorrow evening, probably will write a review this weekend.

"'this game is so good after I changed everything about it through mods!" is one of the funniest copes ever
Literally just minor UI changes. You sound like a console pleb, though.

--------------

Installed the game just now.
First thing you see when you launch it is a QR code to scan with your phone, to link your 2k account, and unlock a Napoleon skin.
Collection item on the main menu is basically a shopping list for DLC to add. Its right in the middle of the main menu, too.
The game also displays 2 sets of patch notes on release. If you haven't played for months, and come back, do you have to read 5 sets of patch notes? Oblivion DLC style?
There's also a white-on-gray message on the bottom of the screen, telling me to update graphics drivers and restart if I have graphics issue. Looks like the kind of programmer notice I'd leave on my software. Its not even centered inside the gray bar holding it.
On the loading screen towards entering my game, the description for my leader and civilization is contained all on the left part of the screen, and starts at the very top. UI 101, don't start text at the top left corner. Its where people's eyes least want to go. Should be more centered, and shouldn't be light gray on dark gray. The narrator also reads only 1 sentance out of the whole block of text. The reading is over before the loading is over.

So before even starting a game, its looking pretty amateurish.

I remember people saying there's no Sleep button for units. I had a boat that I needed to press "pass turn" for every turn....

.... and then I found it. The button. The sleep button. First you have to select a unit, then press the arrow pointing right, and then it appears. Its a super secret button, for advanced users only. That's also where the unit upgrade button is hidden, to the point where I thought I can't upgrade units, and they will only upgrade at the end of the era.

So sleep button confirmed [x] in the game. You just have to git gud.

I've played about 80% of a game so far, and I've seen 3 bugs:
  • narrative event that didn't produce the pop-up window, but wouldn't let me end turn unless I answer it (I can't)
  • invisible units (model doesn't load, only visual problem)
  • units visible, but only where they started the turn (their model doesn't update its place on the map, only visual problem).
These were fixed after saving and reloading, but I've had them appear multiple times in the modern age (the only age that wasn't available in the closed beta to YouTubers).

The only reason that launch trailer exists is to remind us all of the games journalists who will be soon replaced by AI if not already have been.

Can anyone sum up the drama?
No modern age or something?
And one of the leaders is a negro woman with bonuses to stealing shit?
Less ages (to be added later), shit ui, shit leaders, an abysmally small amount of content, and they stole from the endless guys yet again, this time getting their worst mechanic, changing civs when you change era

Huh. This sucks in unexpected ways. I'm impressed.

Oh well. The only game in the series I really liked was Call to Power.

The game having little content has been somewhat of an issue since 4, with expansions and later DLCs making it feel much more complete. Firaxis is going to approach Paradox tier greed with their DLCs for 7 tho.

Seriously, even if they'd just released a better looking older Civ, they'd have a slam dunk. The shit they did with the actual civs and leaders is mental though.
What really gets me is how they redesigned the UI only to end up with something worse than before and apparently nobody noticed. There are UI mods that could be used as a baseline for what the community wants but NOPE gotta do our thing. These people are both extremely stupid and extremely arrogant.
