The problem with Elmore is that his characters are instantly dated. Pornstaches and big 80s hair don't hold up well.
Elmore's art IS what D&D looks like to me. His stuff was so perfect that it defined the game in my head as a kid.

It's well-known that the Displacer Beast was inspired by the alien creature in the classic A.E. van Vogt short story "Black Destroyer", but it seems that a less-famous D&D/AD&D monster --- the Grell from the Fiend Folio --- was inspired by a creature from a Jack Williamson story. Specifically, the Grell was inspired by cover art created by Rowena Morrill for the 1980 collection "Three from the Legion", which was soon re-issued by another publisher under the slightly different title "The Legion of Space":
Does anyone have an old school painting of an armory, pile of weapons or such? The only ones I can find online are modern/soy digital art and I'm looking for something more traditional. Any help appreciated.
