I bought a better murmillo helmet asset on CGtrader. Cost me $25, but considering it's such an iconic piece of the gladiator aesthetic, I wanted it to be a really impressive model.
Unfortunately it doesn't fit out of the box onto the human asset I want to use. The human model's face and traps were too big and clipped through the helmet. The traps were a pretty quick adjustment, but the face proved to be more challenging.
Here you can see, starting from left:
- the original model
- the model with the face removed
- the model with a new neck I constructed myself
- the new model with the helmet in place
Needless to say the neck construction was the most challenging part, but I'm pleased with how it came out.
I know it looks a bit flat on top, but I don't think it matters much since that part will be covered up by the model's head and/or helmet.
I think I will work on modeling a few more accessories for this character, then try my hand at texturing in Substance Painter.
