They didn't say anything about that yet. I bet it won't be for a while. I'm sure there will be little details until the kickstarter actually ends, anyway.

Tier description says "discuss design", which suggested an earlier stage in the game development, to me at least. It isn't clear whether design means W2 design or just in general. Toasting the imminent release of the finished game sounds a lot less interesting but being there sounds a lot more interesting than most other places, regardless.

Yeah it is rather ambiguous; I was under the impression that 'design' simply meant 'how to make games' for perhaps interested individuals. The delivery date is what is leading me to believe that at the moment. Perhaps you should PM Brian just to get an idea of when the party is?

I PMed Joby at the forums & didn't get an answer. Mine must have been PM # 652 so I'm not surprised. I'll just wait for the mayhem to cool a bit, there's no rush. I just want to be sure I know early enough to shuffle schedules if needed. Also it would be cool if they could charge ASAP. That Euro / USD exchange rate chart could become mighty scary.

I will start writing up the Wasteland 2 vision document this weekend.
Yeah, i hope it will be YOUR OWN vision as well as your own design. And not to be full of bullshit lulzurama for fans like Fallout 2 was.
The fact that it is possible for anyone to invest to have own statue (or whatever) in game is very concerning.
Take money, DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE and make a good, honest game.

Turn-based.

He's already said about a dozen times it will be turn-based. Not sure why you're fretting that.

I would imagine we will offer some different perspectives when it comes to dialogue but again it is a bit early for me to guarantee anything yet. We will nail down all of this soon but it is critical we make the hardcore happy with this title. I'd rather make a smaller dedicated fan base ecstatic than worry too much about the larger audience.

This is from the gamebanshee interview. He keeps saying all the right things. It's sort of scary.

I was about to quote that too. Actually, just that last sentence. Bring on the pixel art! Heck I personally wouldn't mind keeping the former combat system à la Bard's Tale, but that may be pushing it a little.

I like the wink and nod from BF about Bard's Tale at the end of that interview, too.

The man knows what he's doing. He has people literally giving him millions of dollars to make a certain type of game. He could make living out of this business model, or he could fuck it up and make sure that no one donates to any of his future projects.

Of course he's going to cater to the old school crowd. That's who is funding it and who will buy it (if they didn't kick in initially). Really doubt you're going to see much cross-over from Mass Effect and Fable fans.

I think we should concentrate not on something lulzy, but like some people said like skyway (yes) and VD. Maybe a location filled with meaningful quests, npcs etc. The inside jokes would be there, but only we would get them. On the outside very monocled location and on the inside (if you know what's what) full of LOL.

Codex should write a quest line and turn in to fargo? Brilliant! quest should be competition and voted for and submitted along with donation on final kickstarter date. Codex quest should also be a fuck u in the ass in terms of difficulty. might be overreaching, but if it creates :incline:, we might just pull it off...

Whatever it is it should be a positive driving force to make the game better, not a hindrance or source of dilemma for the devs:

"They want this, it doesn't fit, what do we do, blow them off or compromise the game just a little?"

I know about turn-based. If you don't just read the last two words of my post, you'd see that I was referring to the fan service; Easter eggs, special "areas" and such. If Codex gets its stupid area and a statue because it raised N money, then other groups will too. I wonder what other communities "get" if they also raise 5K+. There can be only as many areas in a game.

Yeah, to avoid this problem, codex should get to write a heinous quest line, which ultimately allows the characters to make a moral choice which erases his game.

The new game plus option following this would include several codex references for the truly hardcore and would enable tasteful rape and distasteful trolling.

Obviously the ESRB would fail to find the new game plus setting...:smug:

I read your entire post. And your concerns are baseless. Fargo isn't a moron. I think a lot of people on the Codex are overestimating the extent of what they'll get for $5-$10k. Moreover, I personally think a lot of the suggestions that go overboard on the in-jokes/putting everyone's name in there is pretty stupid and amateurish. At a certain point they'll look like the very idiots they seek to lampoon.

That said, since I donated outside of the Codex Fund (I'm selfish and want the goodies) I've limited my feedback on the suggestion thread to combining/restating some of the good ideas I've read. If/when there's a poll I won't vote because I've got no money staked into it. It really isn't my place to chastise people if they want to go full on derp.

I'm not quite sure what the plan is with the current donation fund, but simply doing the following would probably be easiest and wisest:
spend the $5000 for the statue then buy an equal number of copies as donators in the $15 tier. Finally, hold a contest of some horrible and embarrassing fashion to get rid of any excess. Use the rest to cover the taxes that'll probably hit even if you've a non-profit company.

Brian: Well here is the beauty of fan funding... we don't have to convince some younger RPG player of anything. I am making this game for the wonderful fans who put their money behind us and not some nebulous group of new people. Let's make the game they all expect and let the chips fall where they may. There is just no way I'm going to consider anything that could let down the core.

It's almost like some bizzaro world where the PR speak from a developer makes us drool like the console kiddies do over a EA/Bioware Game Informer interview!!

Tried to donate via Paypal, but despite using it regularly, it wouldn't work this time. I've thrown some money at them as an individual already, I'll still contribute a 20 or so to the Codex pile if I can bypass my incompetence here.

It's almost like what you'd expect if that 'pfft pfft.....Codex from the future....Fallout 3.....first-pers.....Harold into a fucking tree....not too late to stop....' joke was actually real and some Codexer went around with one of those Opus Dei spiked thigh-pieces while quoting holy scripture, and reigned bloody murder on a then unknown set of Canadian doctors, an Ultima 7 fan and modder (Todd), some guy who had just got his first job at the bottom rung of a marketing firm with an interest in one day promoting video games, knocking out Pete Molyneux (best known for his success with recent games Populous and Dungeon Keeper) and paying a psychiatric hospital to 'hold him until you can cure him', and binding Warren Spector into some Saw-like trap where he will only receive the antidote if he keeps a hands on role with Deus Ex 2, and makes it a PC-focussed game and a natural continuation of the UU, SS2, Thief series, Deus Ex pattern of games. Police never found a pattern to this unconnected set of crimes...
