I know about turn-based. If you don't just read the last two words of my post, you'd see that I was referring to the fan service; Easter eggs, special "areas" and such. If Codex gets its stupid area and a statue because it raised N money, then other groups will too. I wonder what other communities "get" if they also raise 5K+. There can be only as many areas in a game.

If there are lots of groups donating large sums of money, I imagine he would make something like Golgotha from FO2, only with statues instead of gravestones. Inspecting them would let you read amusing descriptions or whatever. Fargo is not full retard so I don't think he would make Easter Egg: The Game and put references everywhere.

Brian: Well here is the beauty of fan funding... we don't have to convince some younger RPG player of anything. I am making this game for the wonderful fans who put their money behind us and not some nebulous group of new people. Let's make the game they all expect and let the chips fall where they may. There is just no way I'm going to consider anything that could let down the core.

what bothers me the whole time with all this kickstarter revolution is ironically the lack of a publisher, especially in the case of a rpg. the publisher did the qa (if good or bad is another story, i know...) and no developer has the money nor the people needed to stress test their product in a short time. support/patches play in the same league - that's all additional money and men power. hopefully someone thought about this stuff beforehand because imo they won't make millions upon millions selling the title. it will be a niche product without triple a status and to survive they have to kick the next fan pledged game right out of the door.

sadly kickstarter won't be a longterm solution for bigger studios.

I believe that is what the beta access is for.

When will we know if all the Codex donators get a digital copy? I've donated through the Codex but I'm wondering whether I should make my own donation on the Kickstarter page too. I missed out on the Double Fine one and I'm really regretting it.

All it takes for digital copy on kickstarter is 15 bucks. Or 30 if you want some art and music from the game, also digital.
So... throw some there and the rest here?

Well, you have thirty days -- I'm sure they will figure it out by then.

I like it how Fargo basically put up a big "fuck you" sign to all the big publishers. I thought everyone tried to make nice in the gaming world for fear of avoiding future problems, you know, being vague all the time and using doublespeak. But it seems Fargo is one of the few sincere people in the business.

Everything should become clear in a few days, I think. Everything.

Tried to donate via Paypal, but despite using it regularly, it wouldn't work this time. I've thrown some money at them as an individual already, I'll still contribute a 20 or so to the Codex pile if I can bypass my incompetence here.
AFAIK, codex donations are down at the moment, until all the taxes and account-switching issues have been resolved. Just chill and wait a while.

Updated my donors.xls

Donations should be working through all channels. Had to change a setting on PayPal's end.

re: Me flying to LA and attending the party / getting into inXile for a tour / interview / visit / group sex session. It's $2,500 for a return flight... and that would run an upgraded server for a year quite nicely. Add on some miscellaneous expenses and I'd make it a round $3,000. I mean it's not like I'm saying I wouldn't go on a Codex funded sojourn to America, I just doubt we'd raise the funds (people really want to donate to send me to America?). Personally I'd want to see around $15k raised for that and I'd take $3k out for the trip and $2k for a server. In that instance, it might be better done as a secondary fund-raising drive after the Statue drive closes in 29 days (in a "aim to raise $2k for the server upgrade but if we reach $5k then I go on a trip" type of deal).

But hey, it's better than my current plan of taking the money and pissing off to Mexico to live a life of luxury.

re: The money itself, yeah, we've got enough to pay $5k for a statue and then get 218 copies at $15 each (+ the 30 we get with the statue) and we only have 154 donors right now.

The Codex will end up with a whole bunch of spare copies of W2. We can distribute them to impoverished gamers in the Third World.

Fargo's mentioned that the beta will likely only give you access to the first 1-3 areas.
