New study published here: https://www.midiaresearch.com/blog/...-for-aaa-publishers-here-is-how-to-capture-it

The days of gaming as a hobby only for young people are clearly over.

Unlike in the past, gamers are now sticking with console and PC games into adulthood and old age. Consumers aged 55+ account for almost a third of gamers now, and that share is on the rise.

Judging by that graph, it's around 20% overall. So more like 1/5, rather than 'almost 1/3'.

Fucking math! How does it work?

Zoomers seem to be true console gaymers.
Sad...

I recall reading elsewhere that women mostly play mobile games. Wonder what games those 55+ (likely male) PC gamers are playing?

Shit and decline, mostly. The industry makes mediocre games for mediocre adults. They lap up the latest braindead AAA and think it is good. It's tragic.

Not really surprising tbh fam. Vidya has been a thing for over 30 years at this point and its not like people "age out" of it (just like they dont age out of reading or watching movies and other mainstream entertainment). I assume that the amount of older gamers will steadily grow as the western population becomes older in general.

It will be interesting to see if the devs start coming up with "old people" difficulty levels and things like that to accomodate for slower reflexes and such things.

Walking simulators and "story modes" are already a thing.

I know many casuals who did. Family and kids will do that. It's having them that's getting more rare, weirdly, in the developed world.

Like I've joked before, the primary combatants against the "jewish conspiracy for our replacement" on its videogame front are playing exactly into the jews' hands....

Ain't no informed 90s gamer ever aging out of it. The things we've experienced the average person simply cannot comprehend. Even modern gamers cannot comprehend, as it is a complete different declined landscape. 80s gamers it is common for them to "age out of it", that I have witnessed frequently. Their comprehension of video games is typically not much more than pacman and space invaders level of depth after all.

I mean, I aged out of watching series and movies when I became a young adult aka 14. Lots of people in life move on/lose interest once they stop being kids or are becoming adults.

A job can do that too, or other hobbies like gardening, friends etc.

Indeed.
It was a whole different timeline.

This is just a peek into a deeper problem that is zoomer and gen alpha's ignorance about tech in spite of being permanent users of it. That's a good rabbit hole to go into.
