Remember this ?
Apparently this is not screensaver nor some video clip posing as background but a start of demo journalist saw. Devs come out and start demo, camera goes down in real time to character dev controls and they start playing.
Part of the reason why they were so shocked. They come up watch this pretty video clip and then they are shocked because it was actually game running.

here is closeup someone posted before showing it is not actually still image but at minimum video, i at the time thought this is just video background:

One thing worth nothing though:
Though they are sort of "excused" by crappy "next-gen" consoles having shit hardware. Even then game on consoles run at 25 to even 15 fps. This trailer was before release of those consoles which was end of 2013 games was released in 2015.

I, too, remember the Witcher 3 E3 2014 footage that CDPR said was "totally real" and "same as PC version" up until release date.

anyone find it funny and odd it opens almost exactly like Ready Player One?

Ready Player One ? Even if true why people jump leaps. Half Life 1 started with train sequence decades ago same as HL2.

Yeah that movie:

Not talking about the train. The narration in the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer is very very similar to the narration at the beginning of the Ready Player One movie.

Yeah, I've watched most of his movies. Really like Boxcar Bertha. Have you ever ever watched Ready Player One, the recent cyberpunk movie that beings with narration almost exactly like the narration in this cyberpunk game's trailer? It's not that it has narration, it's that the narration is so similar it recalls the other. Just seemed amusing to me when I watched the trailer, especially since Ready Player One got shit on quite a bit.

My point is that this style is widely used in cinema and even games. First you narrate first part, usually mc taling about his life setting then you get montage with music showing various scenes. So i don't see connection here you are seeing. It is like you are arguing they are aping Call of Duty because they are using FPP view or something.

They'll be saving everything for Gamescom, it seems. Steal the show at E3 with a trailer and lots of hype surrounding the footage, and then steal the show again at Gamescom.

Don't count on that. People tend to forget that shitload of press sites aren't capable of just flying losers around the globe to see demo.
So demo for european press at gamescom would be given but still no gameplay for masses.

And i wouldn't expect any gameplay trailer till something like 3/4 year before release. Up until then you will get at best highly edited bits of gameplay mixed with cinematics like Witcher 3 did.

Everything I see and hear about this game is perfect

This is sort of good subject to talk about.
What C2077 would had to do for you ('dex) to be perfect?

For me:
- complete non linearity with very different endings. Moreover like in TW1 you make choices but consequence part should come long after choice to prevent save scumming. Each quest should give you ample amount of meaningful C&C
- deep systems, so i could spend time trying to come up with builds and they would be actually very different
- actually fucking good writing like Red Baron one from TW3 and characters you want to interact with.

You're saying this and yet you've posted three examples that aren't alike beyond just having narration. Im not saying they're similar simply because there's narration. They're both cyberpunk things in which the narrator informs us that it's 20 something something and that their city is such and such before going into how they love a thing, in this it's the actual city, in Ready Player One it's the virtual world. They also both talk about how everyone wants to live in the city their in.

This is one thing that so many rpgs fail to do. This is very evident in Fallout: NV (and F3 and 4 but I haven't played those) but often a quest has a conclusion that is obvious, one conversation, and then its over, you complete quest, consequences are immediate so you can save scum and decide/optimize which one is better. Witcher 1 was so cool, because you dont' see the consquences of your actions until much later. Biggest one for me was at the very beginning in the intro you can choose to go after the potions or help kill the monster. I went for potions first play through, then 2nd went for monster. No real consequence immediately, but the beginning of the 1st chapter badguys show up with mutated dogs (harder enemies). Then narrator explains they got that from potions. Was real cool consequence, and something that is basically impossible to save scum unless you want to replay many hours.
