GTA:V/GTA:O is the closest thing to game adaptation of Cyberpunk 2020 core gameplaywise, the second step being adapting the damn rpg system. That's why CP2077 is so damn GTA-vibing.
Mike Pondsmith 5th February 2013:

I played the original Deus Ex and enjoyed it a lot. Warren Spector is a master at layering complex plots and inferences. But Deus Ex always felt more like a conspiracy game than a cyberpunk game to me. Mirror’s Edge is great, but too clean. System Shock and Oni [from Bungie] are also good. Perfect Dark. Ghost in the Shell. Matrix. And Grand Theft Auto 3 is basically cyberpunk minus the hardware

People have called this GTA + Deus Ex and I don't get why that's supposed to be a bad thing.

I wish such a thing would be possible but I doubt it will be. Deus Ex is a hard thing to copy, as seen with the Montreal games HR and MD, I honestly think Arkane's Prey was closer to Deus Ex in gameplay than either Montreal "Deus Ex". Anyway my point is CDP's track record in the gameplay department does not make me optimistic. These guys mostly got ahead in the market instead of falling into obscurity due to what exactly? A kind of fresh (compared to RPGs of the time) take on the setting, edginess in the writing and C&C. I guess the sex card controversy also helped. Mechanically their games were nothing outstanding, merely inoffensive except maybe for the timing attack mechanics of the first game.

Meanwhile Deus Ex's greatness was mostly mechanics (skills, weapons, augmentations and interactivity) combined with level design that leveraged them to deliver what is still one of the best games ever made.

On the other hand copying GTA is mostly a matter of money to build an engine supporting a wide open sandbox and chunking out content like buildings, pedestrian models, cars etc.

Dont forget about the physics, story and cinematics many gta wannabes fail at those things and feel very inferior compared to the real thing case in point ubishit watch dogs.

Physics I also meant when saying engine. For me personally the writing in GTA besides the jokes (both in cut-scenes and in the radio stations) was irrelevant, it just served as an excuse for more anarchy, mayhem, shooting, car chases and other actual gameplay. As long as the missions or optional activities were fun I honestly didn't give a shit about the story, and I say this while almost done with replaying GTA SA, after replaying GTA 3 and Vice City in the last few weeks, paying close attention to all the details in the writing that I missed 15-ish years ago when I last played them.

Full-on storyfag rockstar is cancer as shown by GTA IV (base story, never played the DLC so can't judge) and RDR 2. The jokes and satire they made were great and I do admit it was part of the charm of the series, but the second they decided to go super serious "we artistic and deep now" emotional engagement cinematic mode like in GTA IV and RDR 2, it just made me want to puke.

He seems to be talking about writing, though, which is secondary to our interests here.

Haven't replayed the original in a couple of years, but I went through DX4 a few months ago and felt it did a nice job as a modern-day followup. But I otherwise agree with you that marrying a GTA-style open world with Deus Ex is a big slive of pie-in-the-sky. It's not that it's technically impossible, but an immersive sim requires very dense, sophisticated gameplay spaces, and to reproduce that in an open world with dynamic time and any degree of versimilitude would be a titanic development effort today. DX-style games are already expensive with their controlled environments and it's not plot rationales that drove Eidos Montreal to bring the player back to Prague again and again, it's cost.

Nice video but i hope this is just an "inspired by Cyberpunk 2077" clip (like those you got with Witcher but weren't inside the game) and wont be part of the in-game soundtrack as the self-reference to Keanu Reeves would be enough to take me out of the game (though i guess the game could use a different version).

Watch Dogs truly is a disgrace, Ubisoft did its best to shit themselves in the pants and not allow a proper modern cyberpunk game to happen even though they were so close.

GTA 2 is literally cyberpunk my zoom-zoom friend...

Seems like other artists only began to finishing up their beats. Only Refused so far at least trying to cosplay Samurai and fit in the setting but they worked for a few years on music while these zoomer icons are just catching up right now. Hence such absurd details as keanu namedropping.
Yeah, this is a glimse at possible bigger problem: half of the game is pitch black overcooked and the other is not even baked properly due to time mismanagement.

I've listened to the song a few times now, its kinda growing on me. The Keanu line is dumb as hell.
