Can't believe I am saying this, but Makabb is right here. This is as popamole as you can get.

Ah, I was wondering when Makabb would appear in this thread.

For those who aren't aware, Makabb's trolling schtick is to shill wildly for every open-world sandbox-type game - unless it's from CD Projekt, in which case it's a raging dumpster fire disaster.
Poor soul hasn't heard 4A make better post apoc than Bethesdur.

Presumably these were the settings used in the demo. GTX 1080 barely enough,

I'm kind of expecting this to be like a cyberpunk VtMB, shit combat et al.
I haven't watched the gameplay yet, would my assumption hold true?
Combat looks decent. It is basically cyberpunk GTA V. Doesn't really appear like a true role playing game, just LARPs as one for cred.
What's a true role playing game? :M
If this was an RPG I'd expect to see things like:
  • meaningful, actually-different conversations options instead of one- or two-word phrases that don't even tell you what you're going to say
  • player freedom to decide how to approach a problem rather than being told by the team hacker over radio what to do
  • player having complete control over what their character says or does, within reason obviously - as opposed to the cinematic style this gameplay shows where your character says and does cool stuff for you, and you just watch
I mean that's just off the top of my head
So Might and Magic and Wizardry is not an RPG because it doesn't fit the second criteria, and barely fits the first? Don't even try to categorize what an RPG is. This forum struggles with that for years, even for a decade. Just accept that this is an action RPG, like the Witcher was. If you expected more, you are not aware of the state of today's videogame industry.
That's a fair point, but also, within the context of the type of game Cyberpunk2077 is claiming to be, I don't think my expectations there are unreasonable.

My comment was less meant to be a definition of RPGs and more 'this is what I'd expect from this specific game based on the game it was claiming to be'.

And also I based a lot of my expectations off the fact that the game is developed from a PnP RPG game.

7.) Actually yeah it is not easy to figure out who is shooting you from where when multiple people are surrounding you and you have no other feedback than visual which in the heat of the moment is missing at key moments or too much going on to notice a muzzle flash on your far right/left and sound which with multiple sources also makes it not easy to figure out if there are multiple attackers and an important feedback, feeling the impact, is completely absent. Though personally I wish you could customize that kind of stuff.

DOOM handles it just fine. You're frequently getting hit from all angles, and yet there are no markers on the screen telling you which direction you're getting hit from. And, what do you know, it just happens to have some of the best FPS gameplay ever made in a videogame.

But yeah, if you can tweak the HUD/UI then I have no problem with it.

Which Doom? The latest one?

Yes, and I know it's not exactly the same thematically and mechanically as Cyberpunk but it shows you do not need massive markers on the screen telling you where fire is coming from.

The original DOOM had the head turning to indicate incoming fire but that's not the same as stupid HUD markers.

Eww. Misguided attempt at translating Witcher 3 formula into Deus Theft Fallouto, awful colours edition. Slightly below my already adjusted expectations.

So much for years of bragging about visceral deadly combat. Cinematically slide behind one of the conveniently placed chest high walls, press LMB and watch the lvl 2 mobs soak bullets as their health bars go down, 12 points at a time. Just enough time to take a sip of my delicious MtDew™®©.

What game series does this remind you of?
Shoot guys in an abandoned warehouse-> fetch mission objective-> mission complete, time skip, wake up at safehouse. Phone call.
Follow marker to meet an annoying, exposition providing sidekick-> go get a mission from some kingpin or other asshole-> drive-> TURRET SEQUENCE car chase (everyone loves these)-> cover shooting thugs in a warehouse-> "witty" debrief. Drive to next mission marker for more hot warehouse action?
I couldn't come up with a more generic format if I tried to but wait there's a twist, this GTA comes with Witcher senses- I'm sorry, scanning- which reveals gameplay altering information like "attacking the shield should bring it down"... that's hilariously pointless and low effort.

I thought CDProjekt schmucks were saying something about trying to move away from Witcher to make new and different things, instead they return with more of the same.
This is the groundbreaking Jesus-game all the journos (both blatantly paid off and "independent") were raving about? Come on.
Role playing according to CDP= we assign you a role, you will play it. This time as the Neon Wolf, Veralt of Nightcitia.
Combined with bog standard shooting, +5% epic purple loot, "streamlined" stats and player character, script written by a weightlifter and just enough dialogue choices to fit a console controller I'm noping the fuck out.

You're right, maybe the game will have the best thought out and executed choices and consequences in history but that's still all talk and empty promises.
They made some choices but did not provide any comparison to show if any of that matters at all.
There might be mind bending depths hidden in character builds other than shooty combat man. Maybe the cyberspace dimension will dramatically and dynamically alter tactics and flow of combat.
But if it's really there it means they chose to skip all of the actually interesting stuff in favour of braindead generic mole-a-popping, and that speaks about CDPR's attitude.
Cyberspace, one of the supposed game changers, was used only to flip a switch for a mildly amusing gimmick to happen.
In other games the remote disarmament thing would have been just another activated skill. C2077 does the same from a separate interface and shows nothing else of note but acts like it's all advanced shit.
I smell smoke, I see mirrors.

If they chose to show only simple flashy shit to attract the lowest common denominator it still looks boring from pure action perspective. Underwhelming as an RPG. Nothing above average in terms of exploration and open world.
What am I supposed to take away from this gameplay? That it's supposed to be a shooter for people who don't really like shooters and an RPG for people who don't really like RPGs? Just another 10/10 GOTY calculated for broadest appeal then.

Also it looks FUKIN UGLAY. What year is this and where did gud grafix go?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The difference from 1080p to 4k is so fucking negligible that there really isn't a reason for a game to be offered in 4k. People just want it because it's the new thing. Same thing in regards to FPS, as it really doesn't matter much after 60. I'd also like to note that there is absolutely no fucking reason that a protagonist should ever be voiced in a video game; ever. An unvoiced protagonist is infinitely better than a voiced one, and we have the sample size of games to prove this.

Once you spend some time on a 144hz rig, 60 feels poor, and 30 feels like a slideshow.

If my FPS drops to 60, I notice it immediately.
I've been playing on shit laptops and TV screens for my entire life, so it's entirely possible I'm missing out. I doubt it though.

Well, good thing is at least this will hurt Bethesda and their shitty obsolete game that they re-release every couple of years.

This will be such a train wreck, can't wait, and dexers defending this popamole shit

WellwornForkedArgali-size_restricted.gif

As big of a trash this will end up it will even then be >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> every Bethesda game ever ( actually only 1 game ) including Morrowind and New Vegas that is the same shit because that 1997 engine is cancer and you know this.
Cant wait Todd start firing people when hikeout 76 crashes and I hope CP Red finish them off with lots of DLCs and this time BIG modding community and real creation kit.

Tim Curry voicing the protagonist of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is a notable exception to this rule, though. +M

This game seems to be doing a few things more games should, which is a shame, because they're pretty simple, and it seems to fall short in some other ways.

People pointing guns at you and punching you and stuff is cool, as is being able to interrupt things. Shame about the dialogue choices themselves being as barebones as they come.
