There are some good maps in this expansion, the tyranid infested shipwreck was great.
But I just hated the first mission, it's annoying as hell.
Whenever you want to bring different equipment set from previous game, you must replay that mandatory tutorial mission.
It's fully scripted, has cutscenes that interrupt gameplay which you cannot skip and countdown timer objective, so it can't be rushed.
Luckily, the rest of the game isn't like that at all, if they did that in every mission, I'd seriously regret playing it.

I did find CR bit weaker on mission side compared to DoW 2 with few exceptions. But some of the stuff is pure bs, like the one where you have to keep the IG HQ alive while taking out the arty array. And honestly the the trilogy could be summed up "How Cyrus saved the day and blasted shit up THE END"

I have no optimist about DoW3 anymore.

Everywhere I read people discussing the franchise, I see that 90% are popamole DoW2 enthusiasts. I bet that Sonic the Hedgehog also noticed it.

Yeah, seeing how DoW 2 formula worked for CoH 1 and 2 I doubt we will see an actual base building RTS from relic anytime soon.

Free DoW weekend on Steam. Building hype for DoW3?

Even at more than 10 years old, the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War franchise still has a strong, passionate player base, and we at Relic would like to celebrate and show our thanks! From September 24 10AM PDT through to September 27 1PM PDT, Dawn of War I and II, plus all expansions, are free to play on Steam. As well, for new recruits, or veterans looking to complete their collection, both titles and all expansions are 75% off until September 28 at 10AM PDT. As a special thank you to all our loyal players, and as a welcome to anyone new to the franchise, we’ve also added some bonuses to DoW I and II.

• The Temple of Cyrene is a brand new, official multiplayer map we’re adding into the Dawn of War I rotation. This map will be playable in DoW I, as well as the Dark Crusade and Soulstorm expansions. The Temple of Cyrene sits on the blasted landscape of a world scoured clean by the Exterminatus of the Imperial Inquisition. Homeworld of Gabriel Angelos, Cyrene is now a ghost-world of ruined cities and ashen fields. Fight for supremacy amidst the remains of Cyrene’s once-mighty temples. Claim the three critical locations at the heart of the ruins or drive into enemy bases and deliver annihilation.

• In Dawn of War II, we’re giving away four free sets of Wargear; The Vanguard, Sniper, Sternguard, and Destroyer, to equip in the main campaign that were previously only available as pre-order DLC, or as rare loot drops. Now everyone will be able to equip items like the Veteran’s Grenades, Blade of Ulyus, Armor of the Destroyer, and many more to complete your sets!

What is wrong with grey knights? I only recently started delving into Warhammer 40k.

Nothing. (Well, some consider them a bit Mary Sue'ish - but that's bullshit, all Space Marines are Mary Sues, IG FTW).

Greys are supposed to be super space marines, crushing pleb space marines like rats, plus a rare and not numerous. In DOW it was a common thing to lose 30-50 GKs in a match, they were dying in droves, I have no desire to witness this once again.

Thanks, I got a lot of fluff to catch up on. I feel like I picked up this setting at the weirdest moment (End Times for WHFB, etc).

To be fair the same can be said of the space marines in general in DoW. Only thing DoW2 got right was that it showed that a squad of around a dozen or so marines were usually enough to hold back small army of orcs and tyranids.

I caved in and bought the DOW1 series for $10 off of steam. I am slowly working on the vanilla campaign on insane difficulty. After that, I want to try the Fall of Cyrene custom map, which is more squad based. One thing I never tried was using cloaked scouts to block the pathing of incoming melee units.

Also, while I think DoW2 made a flunky rts, the campaign on Primarch difficulty was damn satisfying. I would love it if DoW3 could replicate that without sacrificing the RTS portion of the game. Based on what I have seen for the Fall of Cyrene custom map on DoW1, it could be possible.

Why would you want a DOW3 from today's Relic? The Relic that made COH2?
Stockholm Syndrome.

Alternatively, something to complain about after PoE runs its course (of multiple reviews).
