Thanks - just to check, I was asking regarding DTR rather than revenge (playing both at the same time gets confusing!) - I have 33 fully mapped out but can't see any drop off. Thanks

I used to play this quite a bit years ago. Had a blast camping out rooms for hours. Then realized I was getting practically the same experience by playing Classic EverQuest (Project1999), but with less jank and more social interaction.

Found the drop off (thanks to some advice from a kind forum member), strange, I thought I had been in that room!

See: https://www.city-of-marlith.com/general/buy-or-download.html
Hello, please tell me, is this website working? I get an error when opening this website.
The server is up again. It's www.city-of-marlith.com now (instead of the old www . cityofmarlith .com).
Use guest/demise to login.
All the links from my old posts are updated to refer to the new server.
I was very sick for about 18 months (got cancer, radio therapy treatment and the like), but am recovering now.

In Ascension items that regenerate hitpoints would only apply to the character wearing the item(s).
In Revenge it also applies to your companions.
For instance, the Amulet of Health.

Amulet of Health
amulet-of-health.png

Art 48, War 66, Pal 66, Nin 83, Vil 77, Exp 77, Thi 71, Bar 77, Mag 71, Sor 83, Wlk 77, Cle 83

A0 / D0, Amulet (Not Class Restricted)
Stats: 18[+1] con
Requires no hands
Modify Hits(10)
Resistances: <NONE>

The cross adorning this necklace is a minor relic from a now long-forgotten priesthood.
However, some of the powers of their religion still imbue the Amulet, allowing the bearer to regain some of their lost health over time.

The amulet regenerates 10 hitpoints every cycle (20 seconds).
But if you have 4 companions it heals 50 hitpoints (character + 4 comps) every cycle.
This also applies to other items, for instance:
  • Dalyn's Smile
  • Ring of Recuperation
  • Artisan's Amulet
  • Warrior's Amulet
  • Wanderer's Cudgel
  • Te-Waza of the Soul
And if you equip more regenerating items the regeneration effect becomes stronger, it's cumulative.

Did you already had offers to join you from this monster?
She packs quite a punch.
They can be found at dungeon level 10 in the southwest corner, in the sand area near Morgoth the Dragon.

When you're doing extensive trips underwater, for example in the lake area on levels 9 and 10, you may have some cursed ball and chains attached to you.
My character had two of them.
Luckily when I returned to town there was a bounty to turn in a Ball and Chain for an Aard of Being.
Now that's a nice trade. An to top it off the bounty board automatically uncurses and removes it from you without additional cost!

Soooooo, I have been playing mordor2/demise for 30+ years. I recently learned of Demise Vol3: Revenge of the Tavern Keeper and was immediately hooked, again. Been relearning and grinding for about a week, and just read most of this thread looking for the answer to my (stupid) problem...displaced myself into a rock right at entrance to dungeon on L2.

The good news is that I always ran a dedicated server when I played because I prefer extra hard mode Demise of playing only 1 character at a time. So for now, and into the unforeseeable future, there will be a server with some casual and other not so casual players from my twitch/discord community delving around on it. It is called Grandma's House on the master list and its only a few days old at the time of writing this. Stop by, say hi and more to the point, can somebody please come summon my ninja explorer's corpse out of this damn rock!

Thanks for reading and happy delving!

Devious Demise....

I'm standing at square 8,30,6 facing West.
I've defeated the monsters in the room and they left a treasure chest.
But wait, if I decide to go that square to open the chest I will loose all spells (Levitation, Resist Fire, Brightness) cast on me.
The square where the treasure chest is placed is an extinguish square. Devious. Good fun.

I don't think so.
But that would be amazing for the game!

More deviousness:
Remember talking to the Flame Dragon on dungeon level 8?
He (it) has a lot to say. You even get to talk to it on one of Lord Gherrick's Missions.
When it has a treasure chest and you don't want to fight it, just talk to it, and then afterwards it leaves.
In Revenge they have expanded the things it says.

talking-with-flame-dragon.png

"Your soul will be ours!"

Once you click that window away it attacks you!
So long for the harmless Flame Dragon...

More deviousness in Demise: Revenge of the Tavern Keeper:

I was mapping the dungeon on level 9/10 in the water area.
Apparently when you're at square 41,47,8 and fly down you are imprisoned...

unsuspected-mapping-of-the-dungeon.png

Beneath the said square is a wall, but you apparently can enter it?
inside-the-wall-but-not-rocked.png

At first this was cool, looking around.
But after a moment how do I get out?
Fly up, the way you came in. No: The ceiling or an object is blocking the way!
Hmmm, trying the other squares. No luck, the same message.
Walking through the wall? Perhaps a secret door? No such luck.

Allright, this is isn't funny anymore. Let me out!
Of course, I didn't have a greenie on me (Crystal of Mysticism) to instantly return home.
And my Thief is a pure thief, so he has no movement spells.

But I do have the item Ethereal Helm in my inventory, which can cast the spell Teleport.
Let's try that.
Position myself to the North, move 1 square out.
Alas, Teleport to that location is strictly forbidden by the Guildmasters.
What? Oh yeah, it's outside of the original 45x45 and the Portal hasn't been closed yet (which means teleport restrictions are in place).

using-teleport-from-the-ethereal-helm.png

Okay, let's try again, with a destination inside the original 45x45.
Pffew that worked. Free again.

Escape! Looking at my prison cell from the outside.

Saris as a single char choice, you get no extra swings ever, how's the exploring/leveling ?

It's fun and the levels come fast.
Getting XP is not much of a problem in Revenge.
The huge groups (Piranhas, Black Flies, Midgies) aren't deadly any longer and give huge XP rewards.

For instance, the route Dwarven Mines, Expanded Dwarven Mines, the moat (take a right turn), follow a few underwater tunnels with the single room next to the dwarven mines to come up for air, "the Diver's Room".
At the end there is a fight with Black Flies which yields approximately 100,000 XP.
If there are Lamurian Guards instead of Black Fles in that room I avoid the fight.
When you get Paralysed (I wear Dalyn's Tear giving 75% Par resistance) you can fly down and recover.

Or the route Under Water to 4, expanded under water area, up at the end with the stairs and down south to the water area with Grael Mosquitos.
If you take the door to the Thieves Den there are sometimes Midgies or Black Flies.
That's also fast XP. If there are Plague Fleas I back out immediately.

Or the route in the moat taking a left turn down to the stairs, there are always Piranhas there, which give a lot of XP.
At the bottom is the Kraken, I avoid him.

Biggest problem is getting enough gold.
Sneaky is a male Saris Thief level 275 at the moment and needs per pin run (2 levels) approximately 110K gold and rising.
That's a lot of money! I don't earn that much from monster encounters, probably half, so it has to come from items picked up and sold at the store or an occasional kill bounty.
My solution, at the moment, is Lamuria.
I take the route: teleporter under water at level 4 to 10, 2nd teleporter to 23.
There's a fixed teleporter at 19,20,22 which takes you back to level 10.
If I can't reach the teleporter back because of tough opponents I use the Teleport spell from Ethereal Helm at 25,19,21 flying over the water.
I use -6,1,1 to Teleport (facing North!). Easy to forget however is that Teleport works as an attack spell when there are monsters in the area.

Lamuria gives:
If you completely identify Staves of Chaos then they are worthless.
Lowering your int and wis to 20 will help a lot.

About the swings. I do intent to reach Maec's Stiletto which gives 7 swings, +5 dex, BackStab(4.0) and Poison(2.0).

I haven't decided yet when to take on some Cleric and Warlock levels.
Cleric for the best healing available and resurrecting the occasional companion and blasting.
Warlock for the best language ability, movement spells, all resistances and blasting and the very important Protect spell.
Not sure about taking Explorer.

It's fun trying to discover how deep I can take him, being only a solo Thief.
He's struggling on level 22.
But Revenge (and Ascension) have respect for guild levels, so when I outlevel monsters they become easier.

Another problem is resistances. Biggest one is getting drained by Undead encounters, they tend to drain me a lot.
Even failed Lifedrain traps are hurting me.
But drained hitpoints can be restored over time in Revenge and stats can be restored with enough tomes, potions and Aards.
I have none resistances from spells, so they have to come from racial resistances and items.

Fire: 53% from Flame Stone (when in a tough fight I switch to Amulet of Dragons for 82%)
Cold: 0% or 50% from Ring of Frost
Electric: 90% from Saris
Mind: 90% from Saris
Disease: 0%
Poison: 90% from Ring of Venom
Magic: 90% from Pure Mythinite
Stone: 90% from Saris
Paralysis: 75% from Dalyn's Tear
Drain: 45% from Black Cloak (haven't found any high level Cloaks yet)
Acid: 90% from Saris

I hope to find the Amulet of Elements soon, which I could wear at level 286, to get 90% Fire and Cold resistance.
It also gives 90% Electrical, Poison and Acid, but these are already covered. But that does give me the opportunity to use other rings (no longer needing Ring of Frost and Ring of Venom).

lamuria-run-results.jpg

The results from a Lamuria run:
  • 3 Kyu Sardina's offered to join.
  • 2x Staff of Chaos
  • 2x Lamurian Ring
  • 3x Staff of Helarno
  • 1x Staff of Flaming Death
  • 1x Ethereal Helm (goes in the bank as a spare item in case something happens to the one I'm wearing)
  • 1x Runic Staff
  • 31K gold
Selling all yielded 150,601 gold.

My Saris Thief is level 325 at the moment.
Just 8 more levels before he can use the Toxic Rapier.
I'm currently using Murdering Blade, since I got it as a reward for the Thief special guild training.

Murdering Blade

murdering-blade.png
Nin 222, Vil 206, Thi 191, Bar 206

A15 / D12 [1.6], Sword (Class Restricted)
Stats: 18[+1] str, 18 int, 18 wis, 16 con, 21[+1] dex
One-handed item, 4 swings
Critical Hit(1.0)
Backstab(1.0)
Behead(1.0)
Resistances: <NONE>

Extremely rare, the short, narrow mythinite Murdering Blade is much lighter than most mythinite swords, making it exceptionally fast.It can be swung four times per round, and is quite effective to parry with. In addition to improving the wielder's critical hit ability, it also boosts the backstabbing ability by the same amount. Most fearsome is the fact that occasionally the blade will behead a foe. Finally, the sword provides its wielder with a small boost in strength and dexterity.
For more details, see: https://www.city-of-marlith.com/revenge/items/murdering-blade.html

versus

Toxic Rapier

toxic-rapier.png
Nin 389, Vil 361, Thi 333, Bar 361

A15 / D6 [2.0], Sword (Class Restricted)
Stats: 18 str, 14 int, 14 wis, 18 con, 18[+3] dex
One-handed item, 4 swings
Critical Hit(2.0)
Backstab(2.0)
Poison(2.0)
Resistances: 95% Poison

The environmentally unfriendly Toxic Rapier is in fact quite friendly to those light-fingered enough to be able to use the weapon. A concealed flask in its hilt and tiny runnels along its blade allow venom to enter otherwise minor wounds. Without proper treatment the victim will suffer a prolonged and agonizing death.
For more details, see: https://www.city-of-marlith.com/revenge/items/toxic-rapier.html
