It's fun and the levels come fast.
Getting XP is not much of a problem in Revenge.
The huge groups (Piranhas, Black Flies, Midgies) aren't deadly any longer and give huge XP rewards.
For instance, the route Dwarven Mines, Expanded Dwarven Mines, the moat (take a right turn), follow a few underwater tunnels with the single room next to the dwarven mines to come up for air, "the Diver's Room".
At the end there is a fight with Black Flies which yields approximately 100,000 XP.
If there are Lamurian Guards instead of Black Fles in that room I avoid the fight.
When you get Paralysed (I wear
Dalyn's Tear giving 75% Par resistance) you can fly down and recover.
Or the route Under Water to 4, expanded under water area, up at the end with the stairs and down south to the water area with Grael Mosquitos.
If you take the door to the Thieves Den there are sometimes Midgies or Black Flies.
That's also fast XP. If there are Plague Fleas I back out immediately.
Or the route in the moat taking a left turn down to the stairs, there are always Piranhas there, which give a lot of XP.
At the bottom is the Kraken, I avoid him.
Biggest problem is getting enough gold.
Sneaky is a male Saris Thief level 275 at the moment and needs per pin run (2 levels) approximately 110K gold and rising.
That's a lot of money! I don't earn that much from monster encounters, probably half, so it has to come from items picked up and sold at the store or an occasional kill bounty.
My solution, at the moment, is Lamuria.
I take the route: teleporter under water at level 4 to 10, 2nd teleporter to 23.
There's a fixed teleporter at
19,20,22 which takes you back to level 10.
If I can't reach the teleporter back because of tough opponents I use the Teleport spell from Ethereal Helm at
25,19,21 flying over the water.
I use -6,1,1 to Teleport (facing North!). Easy to forget however is that Teleport works as an attack spell when there are monsters in the area.
Lamuria gives:
If you completely identify Staves of Chaos then they are worthless.
Lowering your int and wis to 20 will help a lot.
About the swings. I do intent to reach
Maec's Stiletto which gives 7 swings, +5 dex, BackStab(4.0) and Poison(2.0).
I haven't decided yet when to take on some Cleric and Warlock levels.
Cleric for the best healing available and resurrecting the occasional companion and blasting.
Warlock for the best language ability, movement spells, all resistances and blasting and the very important Protect spell.
Not sure about taking Explorer.
It's fun trying to discover how deep I can take him, being only a solo Thief.
He's struggling on level 22.
But Revenge (and Ascension) have respect for guild levels, so when I outlevel monsters they become easier.
Another problem is resistances. Biggest one is getting drained by Undead encounters, they tend to drain me a lot.
Even failed Lifedrain traps are hurting me.
But drained hitpoints can be restored over time in Revenge and stats can be restored with enough tomes, potions and Aards.
I have none resistances from spells, so they have to come from racial resistances and items.
Fire: 53% from
Flame Stone (when in a tough fight I switch to
Amulet of Dragons for 82%)
Cold: 0% or 50% from
Ring of Frost
Electric: 90% from Saris
Mind: 90% from Saris
Disease: 0%
Poison: 90% from
Ring of Venom
Magic: 90% from
Pure Mythinite
Stone: 90% from Saris
Paralysis: 75% from
Dalyn's Tear
Drain: 45% from
Black Cloak (haven't found any high level Cloaks yet)
Acid: 90% from Saris
I hope to find the
Amulet of Elements soon, which I could wear at level 286, to get 90% Fire and Cold resistance.
It also gives 90% Electrical, Poison and Acid, but these are already covered. But that does give me the opportunity to use other rings (no longer needing Ring of Frost and Ring of Venom).
