Waiting for summer to get this expac cheap, no way I'm paying full for that cash grab
Expansion has been delayed until early 2022. Sunsetting has been sunset, Vault of Glass 2.0 soon, looks like Luke Smith has been demoted or something.
Destiny 2 has been saved™

How the hell do people even justify this shit?
As outlined in that post, the content cycling was needed to keep updating this game at all. The change of plans about the future of the series after the Activision split (as in, there is not going to be a series, just this game being updated continuously) was something no one imagined when it was in development. Things were getting pretty unstable, I am now familiar with nearly all of Bungie's animal-themed error codes. Gotta catch them all.How the hell do people even justify this shit?
so if a new player buys the game they won't even be able to actually play the whole story, right?
Seems like they hedged their bets incredibly wrong if the engine itself is what is limiting their capacity for content by cancelling Destiny 3 and continuing Destiny 2 for the foreseeable future. Ideally Destiny would have a modular installation where people who want Y1 and Forsaken would just be able to install it with minor rebalancing taking place throughout the years. What a nightmare. As outlined in that post, the content cycling was needed to keep updating this game at all. For what it's worth the dreaming city location from Forsaken is staying, which is surprising since the story gave a good reason to put it away. Seems that the things being vaulted is the Beyond Light seasonal content (apart from the season of Chosen stuff, probably since it uses existing assets), the tangled shore location from Forsaken and its related quests (including the main campaign).
Year 1's base game campaign, two DLC campaigns, strikes and raids were removed a year and a half ago equaling 40-50% of the game which was already content-starved prior to them removing all that stuff. Now they're gutting Forsaken minus the raid and the Dreaming City as a destination. Thank god because that's the only interesting zone the game has.so if a new player buys the game they won't even be able to actually play the whole story, right?
the campaign + lore was actually enjoyable along with the environments, the only part they seem to have actually left intact(and care about) is the worst part of the gameso if a new player buys the game they won't even be able to actually play the whole story, right?
right, there's no "story" to speak of now, original Red War campaign is long gone, all the "story" nowadays is a sitcom style treadmill narrative with a stupid asspull each season

when I think of the game first thing I think about is how good/varied the environments looked tbh
Well, you could just go play the story in order to fig--I stopped playing after the Mars missions. Now everything is just weird story wise. Mara Sov is dead in all the missions, even in the end of the dreaming city missions to bring her back. Yet in the seasonal content she is very much alive all of a sudden with no real explanation to be found outside of Youtube content. Saint 14 is alive...somehow. The traveller is healed somehow, the city factions did "Something" and are all gone. The Crow looks up to me as a guardian for some reason and Zavala likes him for saving him...from something. Osiris did a lot of something as well. The darkness that came over the city was also something something.
At this point Youtubers like Byf are mandatory to understanding even the most basic of plot elements.
Business wise they made the right call, the game is doing well enough that the "Final Shape" expansion is planned for 2024 and it will be "the conclusion of the light and darkness saga" (as in, the entire plotline so far), meaning they have more in mind.Seems like they hedged their bets incredibly wrong if the engine itself is what is limiting their capacity for content by cancelling Destiny 3 and continuing Destiny 2 for the foreseeable future. the story was different if you didn't import a character(account I guess?) from destiny 1(the Red War is a direct continuation of The Taken King and makes little sense if you didn't play it,
