The drones are full of shit. Of course it's a Blizzard problem, else we'd also be hearing about identity thefts and bank fraud on a massive scale. As was pointed out elsewhere, if these people were genuinely hacked or keylogged, what kind of technically proficient criminal would do it for a fucking game instead of draining people's bank accounts?

:balance: Only blizz game is good enough in this uncertain market conditions.

y u scared of truth?

lie != truth. stop lying or i'll have to tell your mom.

anyone who got hacked was blissfully ignorant of what an authenticator is.. and how you can get a free one if you have a modern phone (any old android will do). if you dont have a modern phone, then you should fucking get one. r00fles!

there are many reasons to call blizzard epic faggots, but this issue of users being too ignorant to protect their accounts isnt one of them. if you dont have two way authentication on your gmail, youre also a massive idiot waiting to have that hacked too.
It's people's fault they are getting hacked, they should have stored their computers in a bunker and have 7 different layers of authentication every time they log into the game. It's their fault they didn't buy a phone or other kind of authenticator to play a game on a PC.

If they couldn't do that then they are dumbasses and deserved being hacked.

They paid for a modern Blizzard single-player game with always-online DRM. Pretty much their fault, yes.

All the idiotic "security" requirements (For an SP game? Fuck off.) should be on the front of the game box in HUEG NEON LETTARS, though. And the buyer should sign a waiver before purchase, acknowledging their stupidity and their further buttsex availability at any time.

Still, you can't be too careful with those single-player games. Back in the good old days people lost their entire character progress because they played their game on a public computer. How easy it was to just move the save files over to a floppy and then sell them on the black market. At least Blizz is stepping up the game in trying to prevent that from happening.

Well, if they bought D3, they certainly are and they certainly do.

Some big :incline: from Blizzard over the past few days:

Apparently Koreans found not only one, but at least two Dupe Bug in the game and made ample use of it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/uu2rr/crafting_items_freely_using_backserver_bug/c4yjdc0

They hotfixed the servers with a new Patch on NA and EU realms, but apparently ASIA has been down entirely yesterday and it's not clear when it'll come up again, cause they've been at it for almost a week now: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Di...es-Indefinite-Shutdown-Asia-Server-43448.html

Meanwhile, some other people found out that Blizzard set their Auction House system to synch with the system clock, so setting it back can make people cancel auctions:

And Blizzard also decided to take action against the evil people buying Diablo III from countries like Russia, Spain or Portugal by locking all of those versions (and everyone in those regions) to their local language:
http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/co...decides-to-lock-down-russian-language-version

They apparently also previously said this was okay:
Yes this should be possible, you should be able to choose your language normally once the Russian version is released.
But changed their opinion at some point and just edited that post into:
Update: 08/06

The Limited Russian version is separate to the other versions, if you have a Limited Russian key on your account, you will need to play using the RU language pack
Sorry for any confusion over this issue.
Please note: the full EU version is available on the Blizzard Store which allows all languages and full region support via the Global Play feature (including Russian language support)

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/06/er...rs-to-play-the-game-in-their-native-language/
If you are experiencing an error 81, 82, 83 or 84 when trying to log in to the game, it’s possible that you are attempting to log in using a language that you are not authorized to use. The Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese versions of Diablo III are among some of the versions that can be language-limited.

Your game language and interface will remain the same when you change regions. If you purchased the full-language version of Diablo III, you will be able to play in all available languages in all regions. To play in a different language, you will first need to download the Diablo III game client for that language from Battle.net.

Oh and that hacking a lot of people and journalists were worried about for weeks?

It mysteriously stopped after Patch 1.0.2b: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Di...laims-Instantly-Stop-What-Happened-43412.html

So. Accounts hacked. Buggy, exploitable auction house. Duping is still in. Servers get shut down preventing people from playing single player. People suddenly having restrictions (language pack in this case) imposed upon the product they bought legally. People complaining about lag....

Are there any of the potential drawbacks of always-online DRM that people pointed out pre-release that haven't come true already? Good job, Blizztards. Good job. Maybe your clusterfuck with this will get big enough to discourage others from going down this sordid path you chose.

I nearly forgot about that one... ya, that's been happening too, lots of Hardcore chars dieing every day cause of lag spikes:

All of this won't matter though if people put down money on it (oh... and how they did, they all ran out to get the newest purple Blizzard anal vibrator: http://beefjack.com/news/diablo-iii-widows-offered-free-vibrators-by-french-sex-toy-site/ )

EA has already taken heed of the success and is off to do it themselves rather soon, apparently they're also learning from Blizzard and got experience, so don't worry.
http://kotaku.com/5915377/like-diablo-iii-sim-city-will-require-an-online-connection

EA's 2013 revival of SimCity will sport one of the more controversial features of modern PC gaming: an always-online requirement, even in single-player.

Developers of the game confirmed this during a recent demo of the new title for Kotaku.

"This is a mutiplayer game," producer Kip Katserelis at EA development studio Maxis said, explaining the requirement. Yes, they even consider single-player to be multiplayer. "we're constantly tracking what you do… and then feeding that back to players." They're tracking who is polluting the most or who is playing better. They're spawning challenges for players. They're keeping everyone connected.

They're basically, like Blizzard, saying their latest game in a series that used to not require an online connection now will, and they, like Blizzard, are saying that it's fundamental to the way they want this new game played. If a gamer plays offline they would become out of synch with the game's perpetual tracking of the cities that, combined, comprise the sense of this new Sim City as one grand inter-connected world.

Sorry if you were hoping to play this on an airplane without Internet.

Asked an open-ended question about why they'd require online, the developers of the new game won't say the reason that's most commonly suspected for this kind of requirement: piracy. They will, however, provide some solace to those of us who fear that strict online-only requirements will cause our games to blink out if we're trying to play while connected to an Internet signal then tends to drop once in a while. The developers say they are programming this new Sim City to tolerate some undefined amount of "minutes" of offline play in the case of dropped connections-presumably an amount of minutes closer in length to a commercial break than a TV show, though they didn't want to say.

But what of the debacle of the Diablo III launch and the fury of players who couldn't play a game they wanted to play solo because Blizzard had trouble keeping its servers up and error-free?

"We've got experience from Spore and Darkspore," Katserelis said, citing other recent Maxis games. "EA is an on online company. We're definitely watching what's going on at Blizzard, and we're putting in backstops and checks to try to prevent those kind of things from happening."

Expect a lot more "Always-Online" games soon too.

Any game that forces me to stay online to play single player -> NO SALE.

It's a horrible, horrible idea that shits all over the consumer and provides nothing of value in return.

Lagspikes ending someones hardcore singleplayer run is kinda hillarious though. Unavoidable random bullshit deaths have long been a stable of the rougelike genre.

No, since while Steam itself is online, the games it runs (usually) aren't. Run Steam, run game, pull cable out of wall, continue playing.

Heck go to steam->steamapps->common and you can launch many of your steam games without starting steam up at all.

Haha, holy shit, what a clusterfuck D3 is turning out to be. A BRO also says that some hacker group managed to hack D3 even without having to make emulator servers, too, so, LULZ.

It may be a clusterfuck but they've already sold their 7 million copies, so... :M

How does that work?

Yeah, and it never caused some problems who wouldn't have been when you had strict offline games. I'm not blaming Steam itself for being an online platform that relies on activating the games you downloaded from them. I'm blaming them for causing some inconveniences which aren't necessary. But a good part of this inconveniences are caused by the publishers who use steam exclusively, even for games bought in a store.

You know, Morkar. For 75% off my games, I'll forgive having to make my own shortcut to launch the game after the initial activation.

Hail Gaben

It's a bit more to it (you know that ;) ). But I see nothing wrong with it when you prefer to buy some games cheap with having some possible penalties to it. I do that sometimes, too (but not for steam). But for games I really like and pay fullprice I prefer it the other way.

They're apparently doing a huge Rollback on the ASIA realm to remove all the dupes, it's apparently still down xD

http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/asian-diablo-3-realm-massive-rollback-to-remove-dupes
First of all, we are deeply grateful to you for your patience waiting for the development team during this maintenance time in order to restore the service as a whole.

On June 10, our development team has found some error on the stored items in the database, these errors represent a very small part of the items can not be normal trading or selling. This error caused all less than 0.01% of the items have been copied, the majority of players and is not affected by this problem, but the database before removing these duplicated items, is unable to maintain stable. Therefore, we carried out the maintenance of the server, and perform the necessary operations to fix this problem. The development team is currently working to make the server able to resume service as soon as possible.
All original items and their reproductions will be removed from the database, follow-up, we will tell the exact time of maintenance completed, but currently estimated Server recovery services some time in the afternoon of June 11, 6 pm (Taiwan time).
We have also noted that part of the players during a short period of the game after the break and suffered back problems. This issue follow-up will be further instructions.

Also :smug: -worthy:
Sadly, long server downtimes aren’t anything new on the Asian realm. I was talking to a friend in China today, after he sent me the link to the blue post, and he joked, “Asia server has got the Achievement, “maintenance every day”!” The other common joke on the Asian server goes, “Is this Diablo III?” which refers back to the D2 days of Asia 1-4, at least two of which seemed to be offline constantly. Word from him is that the Asia Diablo 3 servers max out at 640,000 concurrent users, at which point it’s the Asian version of Error 37 for everyone else. Of that 640k, around 430k are usually Korean players.

Wow, awesome. It's nearly like having no DRM between myself and my games at all! Well, between myself and "many" of my games. At least sometimes. Under certain conditions...

Anyway, is there any explanation about the language restrictions? If there's one thing that's thoroughly improved without decline in the last decade or so, it was that I was finally not forced to play crappily translated games anymore (at least for games that were in English in the original). Now Blizzard want to fuck up even that?!? Why!?!

It's obvious that the language restrictions are to prevent gamers from all over the world from buying the cheaper Russian version. "Free Trade" and "Globalisation" are only for capitalists, not peasants.
