Disco Elysium creative lead Robert Kurvitz was quietly fired from ZA/UM in late 2021, files lawsuit against them

The rumors I read were that Kurvitz was totally unmanageable and got kicked out by decision of his co-workers.
These days "totally unmanageable" often simply means "not a totally meek and submissive male". "Decision of his co-workers" is usually a euphemism for yeeted by HR after a single complaint from a woman with BPD, multiple piercings and a body count of over 300.

Maybe he pulled a John Romero

Given the "it no longer represents the ethos it was founded on" line
I would say the safest assumption is that the studio has grown more interested in profit and the new arrivals aren't the kind of people that those devs enjoyed working with
In that case, the Codex has been their home all along.

Rostov iirc hasn't been updating either his art blog nor his artstation page for ages. Strange drop off in productivity. He's in England now too, right?

Edit: oh he just posts all his stuff on twitter now. my bad.

obviously the visual novel they released was but a launch pad for the pinko brigade to ditch eastern europe where communism actually ruined everything for the greener pastures of the uk where it remains an intellectual fancy

It's pretty easy to go for the low-hanging fruit and say "Heh, commies" but by the looks of it, at least from their side of the story, they seem to have been pushed by investors out of the company for not agreeing with them. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted more monetization schemes shoved into the sequel.

I doubt anyone was surprised to find out that we won't be getting a second DE. Just like back in the day it was pretty clear there wouldn't be a sequel for PS:T. And the making of both titles was similarly torturous.

Something something art. But it seems to be true.

DE has a very potent setting, that has been developed for decades by talanted people. Ripe for being turned into a piece of woke shit, once a big hit comes out based on it. But the big hit must be created first.

Think DE didn't really need a sequel.
Most genuinely good games don't. Just look at Dark Souls, Fallout, and Deus Ex.
Will I need to read the works of Marx to understand the plot? or can I play this and call myself a commie?
No to both. Call yourself a commie when you've read the Communist Manifesto and agree with it.
Yes, all three would have been better off left as is tbh. The return to hewing so close to the souls formula in elden ring was probably a misstep from From as well. BB and Sekiro were both very good.

Prime Junta wrote a blog post a couple of months ago talking about how happy he is to work at ZAUM. He may call himself a commie, but when the chips are down, he's a corporate bootlicker.
wait......so he faked his own death at the end of the game!
