I actually have never played a Larian game before, so I'm not really sure I even know why you're referring to me as a fanboi. But ok.

Anyhow, roofles...

Especially when DD and DK excelled in those departments.
:hmmm:

"If DOS (which i enjoyed for what it was) was such a Diablo Killer they wouldn't need a fukkin' KS for a fukkin' sequel. They would be rollin' in the dough."

They never did get that million, so I guess they're still bust. :P

Raze: There will, at some point, be a game to finish off the story arc of Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity and Divinity2. I hope there is more done with the Dragon Knight concept, as well.

With the comparison to BG2 comes the expectation of a great story, memorable characters and writing
I loved (and still love) BG2 like very few other games, but I'm always a bit baffled when people refer to it as a game with "amazing writing, story and characters" and all that sort of bullshit.

Look, let's be honest, it was really serviceable at best in these areas. What actually made BG2 a classic was being freaking packed with tons of good and very well diversified content, having a solid combat system and some genuinely entertaining encounter design.
It wasn't a narrative achievement by any stretch of the imagination.
I swear that trying to paint it as one of the best written games of all times reads like the PC equivalent of weaboos with "I cried when Aerith died".

Seriously? They never reached a million? No wonder they are beggin'f or 'mo money. Least successful game. I mean their other games managed to sell a million+ EASILY.

You must be lying. They have to be at over a million by now.

Let's be honest, nobody gives a shit about your opinion. And, yeah, it's one of the best written games but that's largely because most games are shit written. Like TOEE or any of the Divinity games. LMFAO

No. What a load of senseless crap.
It still sounds like bullshit even when you attempt the "twelve years old's trump card" of mentioning something that's even worse to make it look good in comparison.

Iirc, Swen said they broke a million sales several months ago in some Belgian interview. Unless Roguey means Steam/digital sales specifically.

The notion that 313k people could have bought Beyond Divinity in the last 3 years would be both laughable and a sign of the end times.

The first would largely be retail based, and Div2 was also on consoles.

Larian FANBOY detected.

I know how business works. I'm just laughing b/c companies like Larian pretend they are special and better than the huge companies like EA when they aren't. They aren't special in anyway.

I like their games but I hate lies or people who who act like they are heroes when they are not.

Now go cry over their Diablo Killer. :p Espicially now they claim to be working on a BG2 Killer. LMFAO

They don't actively try to kill good companies so they are better in my book. Could you at least explain why opening studios in countries with lower wages is evil? Besides the fact that EA loves it. I live in Poland and I doubt anyone here would be angry about Larian opening studio here, in fact I think that people would be happy about new game dev opportunities.

Lower wages. LOWER WAGES. L0L

The premiss of the blog comment question was either that more people shouldn't be hired to work on the new projects, or that only hiring in Belgium would be less expensive. Belgium is not one of the cheaper locations in the world for payroll taxes, etc, and some places have incentives specifically to attract game development.
You are also ignoring the access to other talent pools. Larian hired about 5 more writers, in addition to the 2 that worked on D:OS. Should only people in Ghent, or willing to relocate there, have been considered?

I don't know anyone at Larian that were bragging D:OS was an anything killer, and Swen addressed the financial aspect of the reason for the D:OS 2 Kickstarter in a reply quoted above my quoted reply. Just like D:OS, the game is funded (this time currently without the need for investors or distribution deals for a retail version), but additional funds will allow more features and content.
Look at D:OS before and after the Kickstarter and Early Access; that additional funding went into making the game much better, and more continues to be invested to create the Enhanced Edition.

Espicially now they claim to be working on a BG2 Killer.

Saying D:OS 2 is using the same engine and will build on the same mechanics as D:OS, similar to what Bioware did with BG2, is not in any way claiming that D:OS 2 will be a BG2 Killer.

Why all this criticism all of a sudden..? And why in such a manner?

They did a hell of a lot better --comparatively-- with their last game than either WL2 (unlike it, they exceeded our initial expectations [considering BD or ED], refrained from socially trendy hype tricks and most of all, did so without earning "demeaning adjective here" salesman nicknames) or POE (unlike it, they did not end up producing an overly conservative, selfconscious title incapable of inspiring confidence)
They did the above sans the 'expertise', collectively speaking of course, of either studio. They additionally succeeded in managing the above sans the capital, tangible, or name-derivative, either of the two other studios owned.
They have also, up to now and to the extent of my knowledge, offered no reason or fact for us to re-examine the above in a different light.

Am i missing something here?
Not being willing to excuse the abundance of flaws D:OS had is one thing, and you're entitled to it. But criticising their intent, transparency, work ethics or integrity? What the fuck are you on?

If you are out of forum threads to appear edgy in, just open GD and go nuts. Really. All your "famous" Dexer friends are there too. So much fun to be had.

p.s. HobGoblin42 i expected different from you. Like you, Swen too did start small. You get to where he is, not just in gain but in responsibilities, and then we'll see how easy it will be for you to hold the torch of light and justice. Not before. Life is a bitch. Fight harder or accept.

Because the Codex isn't a hivemind, idiot, and not everybody thinks what you think.
Even so, it's not like -all- criticism needs to be based on some kind of comparison. If someone points out a flaw in a game, it's constructive, yelling out "AT LEAST IT'S BETTER THAN X"(it isn't better than x btw) to silence them isn't constructive at all.

Added a suggestion to have text materials like Ultima's lore book and Fallout's manual:http://larian.uservoice.com/forums/...69-ultima-and-fallout-like-manual-or-lorebook

Physical and/or digital books describing the world, lore and characters, from in-game perspective. (NOT novella.)

One of great things about some old-school RPGs, including Ultima and Fallout, was rich text materials comes with the game. As a game inspired by both Ultima and Fallout, and the Larian's most ambitious game, I wish D:OS 2 to have rich text supplements (maybe packed with Larian humor ;) ).

Examples:

Ultima IV - The History of Britannia:

Ultima V - The Book of Lore:
http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/The_Book_of_Lore

Fallout 1 - Vault Dweller's Survival Guide:

http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/38400/manuals/Fallout_manual_English.pdf

For recent example, Pillars of Eternity have 36 page Almanac:

"Am i missing something here?
Not being willing to excuse the abundance of flaws D:OS had is one thing, and you're entitled to it. But criticising their intent, transparency, work ethics or integrity? What the fuck are you on?"

You are an idiot. They have no integrity. Their constant bullshit proves that. Theya re full of shit. And, I say that as someone who flip flopped about DD and also liked DOS. SO FUCK OFF.
