Hey may mean Henchmen when he says Companions. They have personalities and stories, but only having part of the game it is difficult to say how deep they go. I don't know if you'll see quest lines from it, but they stop and talk to you along the way based on your decisions.

This thread one of the Larian writers made actually deals a little bit with companions/henchmen.

Yep, those are the companions. They have lots to say throughout the game and have backstories + full completable arcs. The henchmen will be hireable in one place only and will have whatever information the Kickstarter backers wanted to include, but unfortunately not more than that one little blurb.

Unless we missed something, this really is the last update before release!
27 JUNE - LAR
Hello everybody,

Since something went wrong yesterday with the update and we know plenty of people are planning on playing over the weekend, we decided to do another quick update today, even if it was unplanned. Savegames unfortunately are not compatible, but you should now not have any problems anymore entering the Black Cove.

We're still waiting for Valve to make the Divinity Engine toolkit public, but it looks like they're very busy with the Summer Sale so it might only be on monday. But who knows, they might press that button any time. Until they do, the editor will not be availble to you.

Regarding other languages, don't play them yet. We'll only upload the full translations on release. What you're seeing now are temporary translation files.

Should you encounter any major issues, please let us know in our forums or here in the comments sections.

Thank you for all your support!

If you can load them, they are compatible, I guess, if not, it's restart again.
Wouldn't count on them being compatible with the final release, either.

Swen has determined what will NOT be in the game on Day 1.

The only additional AI personality to be added is "Loyal" (In essence, the same as if you turn AI personalities off), and from the sounds of it, Madora and Jahan will be the only companions ready on launch.

Release Version Locked Down

I can finally answer the question, since we just locked everything down and bar any critical issues, the version I'm playing now is the version that's being released on monday.

Pretty much everything we planned is in there, but we had to make a few changes to get things ready as Murphy has been rather active here in Gent, Belgium. Extra companions will come later but the henchmen are in (most likely extra henchmen will be added in function of the needs we see). There's one extra AI personality (loyal i.e. the same as if you had no cooperative dialog) and the others will be patched in afterwards. We've also cut some of the Phantom forest dungeons levels and may make those available for people to fool around with as mods.

As I mentioned before, given the scope of the game those are minor things, and if it weren't for the Kickstarter campaign, we'd probably not even communicate about it. As it stands, I think the game is highly enjoyable and feature packed. Obviously if you wait, you'll have the advantage of patches and a bit of extra content, but there seriously is already a big & fun adventure to be had.

I wouldn't mind another delay. The game is hype but I'll probably wait until at least companions are patched in.

So you're telling me the "released" version is actually going to be the "technically released, but actually still pre-release" version?

Get your shit together Larian.

It definitely seems clear that Larian ran out of time or money to delay any longer. I'll be waiting for an AI personalities patch to play this.

To be honest I have little desire to even play the game. I just want to mess with the tool set and create my magnum-opes.

Better delayed than rushed! I'll just make do with what we have so far and I'll leave the rest for my second play through, it will keep things fresh I suppose.

Eh, I'm still looking forward to playing the "complete" game - patches or no. It's been too long since I've seen a decent TB combat RPG and I agree with the poster above that it has lot's of mod potential. I've been messing around with the beta for a while (haven't gotten far due to savegame incompatibility with the updates) and I have to say it's a surprisingly solid and enjoyable experience.

Same here. Also kind of bummed about some of the the megadungeon levels being cut away.

Guess I'll beat Avernum first and hope that by then, they'll patch in the remaining stuff.

Like others, I'll be waiting for the companions to be patched in before buying this game. Very excited though, can hardly wait.

I'll wait for the feature complete version. I hope it won't take too long for them to finish the game.
