Game 3 was fantastic and unpredictable, but the other three games weren't that spectacular. I preferred the LGD matches earlier today to those.

Found TI2 and TI3 Grand Finals to be far more entertaining with the underlying tension and the constant back and forth. Still, TI5 is arguably the best TI considering the overall quality of the matches right through the tournament.

Roll on the Majors!

I usually analyse a lot during/around tournament, as I often try to understand why team A beat team B etc. What saddens me is that when EG wins a tournament, the answer almost always is the same: Their opponents made mistakes they didnt make all tournament. I dont get it.

Best series to me was Vici vs Ehome btw.

Is there anyone who understands why they walked into the pit at that moment, without vision of anything? Thats one of the mitakes I saw in the tournament I really did not expect from such teams.

Not to take anything away from EG's victory, but there was a marked drafting difference in how CDEC kept giving Gyro away all four games. CDEC used to prioritize that hero earlier in the tournament, and Agressif even held the record for most kills in a match at TI5 on that hero.

Anyway, my favorite games of TI5:

1. Vici vs EHOME in the Loser's Bracket featured the highest quality teamfights at TI5. The support plays in those games were unbelievable, and both teams could have won right till the end.
2. IG Vs Secret where Burning's Anti Mage almost single-handedly overcame a 20k deficit, constantly evading ganks while desperately searching for more farm.
3. Vici Vs Cloud 9 Game 1 was full of drama. It felt like Vici overcame a 25k networth deficit almost solely due to insane Rubick plays. Also due to Cloud9 being Cloud9.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
the reason they won is simple. EG was operating with all their bans while CDEC weren't. CDEC had too many ban-or-lose heroes to deal with and didn't have the experience to handle the long games without choking. Kinda dissapointing but the result would have been the same if LGD had played.

Mad props to CDEC for banning techies every game though. If techies was picked in the grand finals, Dota would be a completely unplayable game for atleast 6 months or until icefrog removes it.

Edit: For real though, Fear and Universe deserved that shit so hard. Major props to them for sticking around and trying year after year after year.

Exactly the same thing happened at DAC but in reverse, where Vici was unable to handle EG suddenly banning sniper every game. Up until the grand finals, that had been their bread and butter.

What I was talking about is more individual misplays happening though. For example in EG vs LGD, mmy single handedly lost them the last game when he got picked off outside rosh and reveals the supports position so the leshrac can engage into them instead of LGDs cores, and then diving like an absolute maniac after buying back. This was a stark contrast to the disciplined and "better safe than sorry" gameplay we've seen from LGD pretty much all tournament. The next fight Maybe manfights a leshrac while his 8second BKB is running, completely ignoring the clinkz that is laying into him for the full strafe duration. Up until then Maybe had superb decisionmaking who to focus during teamfights.

It's stuff like that that I simply don't understand. The only reasonable explanation would be that they fail under pressure, really.

Saark: Meh, at that MMY throw all team fucked up. Ok he goes full retard but if the rest go back they have a rubbik dieback vs aegis, not the worst thing. Yet they got picked off one by one for no good reason and handed the game on a platter. Definitely the pressure and it hit them all.

Great Deceiver: Good thing PPD kept drafting the boring Gyro eh? That's why your statement was so funny/dumb, it's play to win as it should always be, style points are irrelevant.

The really good think for EG imo is that none of the games they won looked like a clear outdraft, they just played better.

So, DotA buffs, riddle me this:
Did Blizzard have any issues with Valve creating DotA 2?
I know that technically Valve didn't steal anything as Icefrog is the main guy who modded WC3 and Valve capitalized on HIS ideas but looking back to WC3 and now at DOTA2, the assets are so similar that I cannot help but wonder if blizzard took exception to that? Was there any juicy legal drama?

Yes, most recently they remade Skeleton King into Wraith King - Skeleton King is a hero in Heroes of the Storm now.

Windrunner became Windranger, Wisp is now only Io, etc.

Any info on how big was the settlement sum? I'm kinda curious how big the contest for the e-sports darling was.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
Also Necrolyte -> Necrophos.

I didn't find any info on the sum. I'm going to assume it was ridiculous, and it was worth every penny.

PPD Draft Analysis

I was kinda disappointed with PPD's reasoning for the Skywrath pick in game 1. I thought it was a counter to WW, and pretty clever for that reason (ulti whoever WW cold embraces), but it turns out it was just a comfort pick for Aui.

I think eventually WW will have Glimmer Cape so Skymage ulti didn't counter WW that much.
