This seems heavily inspired by Steph Swainston Castle series.

The idea of a war lasting generations is really cool, but I wish they would also say something about the king. Heroes die and new ones take their place cool. But what about kings? I really hope kings will affect the state of the war too. Different king rules the kingdom differently giving different bonuses and disadvantages. And what about hero kings? Can a king die in combat? Or is more important for a King to raise his successor?

It was made fairly clear in the pitch that the king is immortal. The other stuff, good questions and things I'd like answered as well before tossing any money at it.

Yeah, probably so, but it creates this kinda meta-state when king is the player and because the player doesn't die, the king doesn't die. I don't know I just don't really like the sound of it. Especially that it seems like a wasted potential.
But I'm judging an entire game after seeing a couple of drawings like an asshole. So I'll shut up and wait for some actual information.

Pretty much this. :bro:

The amount of edgy jerk holes in this thread is impressive "Oh my people like double fine and Tim Schefer so there for i will call him a name and then i will be cool on the internet" it is annoying.

I personally do not give a shit about there little video antics, but i do like the concept of the idea and with some more info about how it will work i would maybe back it. I will wait and see, but it could be interesting.

What's the point of permadeath if the end result is something that makes you more powerful???!!!
Losing one of your greatist warrior or leader might hurt you more if you only get some shitty artifact.

is it the conspiresy or smng? every thread in codex there must be 2 popamole lovers with the main bad dude and his support ( eg guardpost as the main evil and suejic as support in diablo). here we have j_c as the main bad and oldschoolcamicadse on the support.

ps I bet j_c=guardpost... those two just sound the same

I don't get the hate Double Fine gets, Psychonauts was a pretty good game and Stacking, Costume Quest and Iron Brigade were fun, small games. The only game from Double Fine I didn't liked was Brutal Legend and the main reason for that was that they didn't focused on only one aspect of the game, they should had made a Sacrifice style game or sticked to the hack and slash, instead of trying to do both, but it wasn't a horrible game. So, one good game, three decent small indie titles and a okayish game, hardly the track record to justify the ammount of hate. I don't remember they releasing overhyped turds like DA 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3 or ME 3.

How long will the game be?
We’re too early in development to estimate the length of a typical campaign, but we’re aiming at a length similar to the new XCOM game, ~8-10 hours. We’re also focusing on replayability and investigating time-scale options so you can tailor the campaign’s length to your liking!

I dont see how they plan to make multiple generations of heroes work in only 8-10 hrs.

There also might be a time associated with it and a need to gain experience.

Like say you have Bob the warrior and he is your most powerful warrior who went from level 1-10 and you retire him to get some babies and what he leaves behind is his sword that gives +2 to all defensive and attack rolls and do triple damage to Imps.
So when Bob Jr comes along he starts as level 1 again and the item gives him enough of a bonus that he is stronger then how Bob senior was when he first came around, but he is still going to be weaker until he gains levels and there is the risk that he will die before that killing off the bloodline and making the item useless.

In the long run Bob jr will be stronger, but that is only if he survives and the next generation will make the weapon even stronger. So you could end up with dead zones where Bob the 4th is not ready yet and even with the weapon he might not have the power he needs.

oldschoolcamicadse

This is the worst butchering of my username yet.

I'm not defending Double Fine or this game. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of bashing Double Fine and praising inXile for doing many of the same things.

Did they actually say that its going to be 8-10 hours?
Or is this your own interpretation? I know some people who needed 25+ hours to finish XCOM EU...

Thanks for backing - you rock!
It’s too early to estimate the length of a campaign, but we’re aiming for something along the lines of the new XCOM, so we’re thinking ~8-10 hours per campaign with replayability being a focus.
XCOM included a “marathon mode” feature that crammed more missions in-between time events, and we’ll investigate adding similar options so you can tailor the campaign length to your liking.

Did they remove that figure from the FAQ?

I really really like the premise of this game. It could be really awesome. But to be honest the reward tiers suck ass (the bang-for-buck is very poor), so I'll probably just wait until release and buy it then.

I have zero faith in Double Fine being able to budget wisely. 50% of the funds will go into marketing, 40% into graphics, and 10% into actual game design.

Because a game that's based on your characters mating and having offspring should definitely have same sex marriages.

I'm all for that shit in real life, but give me a break.
